    Cirrus stall spin?

What happen here? Big fields around the airport. Sounds like the fatal turn back. Really sad. http://www.kathrynsreport.com/2017/07/cirrus-sr22t-n821sg-ddlv-llc-fatal.html

    Parachute vs. panel?

Looking at buying into partnership or alone, generic Cessna 172 /182 circa 1965-75. Assuming lower engine time, decent interior. I'm thinking if I've got 15-20k to spend on upgrades, would it make more sense to get a chute vs. panel upgrade? Love the panel upgrades but moderate increase in...

    Narco radio problem

COM1 occasionally is untuneable, and rotating both nobs doesn't change frequency. It stays on same for a while, then finally will change if you turn very slowly if I'm lucky. Obviously a pain so we use COM 2. Want to work or IFR training so need both. Anyone have experience/suggestions? Radio...

    50/50 partner where it's more like 70/30

In 182 partnership for six months. Got PPL last April. I'm finding that partner is doing more than I am as my work has been crazy the past few months. He's the accounting person and I deal we plane/maintenance issues -- which he gets involved in due to more experience most the time. He hasn't...

New partner wants to start backcountry flying

Just bought into a nice 182. I'm new PPL for 3 mos; partner has about 400hrs. He's decided to take some back country lessons from an expert in Idaho which at the time I didn't think much about other than "cool". This is what this plane is made for doing. Now wondering about this higher risk...

Checkride Nav log for early am test question.

Have checkride set up for this Sunday. Temps in eastern Washington will be lower 100s in afternoon so we have it set up for 0800. I'm doing Nav Log by hand but want to do it the night before so it is well organized, vs cramming prior to my 0700 flight down to the checkride field that is about...

    Bay Area airspace

Planning a trip this summer from Washington to SF Bay Area, VFR, KYKM going through Klamath Falls and then Redding into Central Valley. Wondered best way to make my way over to peninsula, and working around KSFO, KOAK, KSJC airspace. Rec on Palo Alto vs. San Carlos fields. Are there...

    Checkride tougher than medical boards?

Mid-50s board certified surgeon sweating the checkride. :mad2::mad2::mad2: I figure there a bunch of teenage punks that passed this thing, why can't I? Wondered how many of you out there that have been through other grueling paths to your careers felt a little anxious prior to your...

    Log books for checkride

Any opinions out there for what we need to bring from the logs? Our club plane mechanic wants to give me xerox of last annual instead of actual books. Is this kosher for the exam? Also, would think need good documentation of all inspections--eg transponder, instruments--and also ADs. Ideas?

    Prebuy inspection vs annual

Prob discussed ad infinitum but can't find good thread. A Cessna 182 I'm looking at has pending annual this month. Should I have my mechanic basically do an annual as prebuy, or have seller do annual and then have my guy do prebuy? First goal is get best "look" at plane; next is to find most...

    Big tires on 182--Issues?

Looking at a nice 182. Panel/interior/engine fulfill Christmas list. Plane has larger tires on main and nose, and heavy duty 206 strut for nose wheel. What are issues to consider? How many knots airspeed lost? More trauma to firewall? I'm in NW so STOL and tires could be nice for many fields...

Steps to buy out of state plane

Found great looking 182 w engine and avionics exactly what I'm looking for. Problem is plane in CA and I'm in WA. What are steps to follow? I'd like to get prepurchase inspection-- 1-Should I take local guy down, or get a guy where plane located? 2-Is it customary to send deposit once...

Owner annual vs. buyer annual. What gives?

I'm looking around for Cessna 182 as I finish flight training. Seems like every post in reference to buying a plane warns about the "first annual", which will be the expensive one. What is different about the first annual I will get when I buy a plane vs. the annual the plane had the year...

How to assess need to upgrade avionics

Many of the posts on avionic upgrades focus on glass panel stuff. I'm a 70hr pilot in training about to schedule for check ride. Looking at 182s mainly for my own or w partner. Figure an initial budget around $50-60K. I am beginning to get a grip on good engine vs. bad engine, but not...

    Old vs. older Cessna 182s

About to get PP cert. Looking at 182s in particular. Love the 1960 airframe look but wondered about chronic problems with older vs "old"(e.g. 1975) planes. For the guys with the circa 1960 planes, are they constantly needing fixes at a rate greater than the mid-70s planes, or have you been...

    Surviving annual inspection checklist?

Finishing flight training soon with about 80 hours. Hoping to do practical in next 6 weeks. I'm going to buy into a C182 so becoming very interested in maintenance issues and am reading quite a bit about such things and how to fly as safe as possible. Read about some nightmares where caps...
