Oshkosh 2026

Dang. Looking at the flight history, dude left the San Francisco area on Tuesday, headed towards Oshkosh. Four days flying cross country in a old Luscombe, which is pretty impressive. Only to massively screw it up in the end.
Oddly enough, the last time that plane left the practice area was last year's Airventure according to the ADS-B history.

I did a set of practice "spot landings" this evening to get ready for Blue, Yellow, whatever dots. Man - hope this smoke clears out by next Thursday.

A couple of nicknames for this year’s Osh: AshKosh and FU-Kosh.

Wx not looking good for today (smoke) or tomorrow (rain/T-storms). Rest of the week looking better.

After 4 days he may have been into the beer cooler.

Well, this is unfortunate. I might end up driving the last leg from Chi area vs flying in.

Has the fellow been identified yet?

Stuck in Madison. Damn this IFR reservation system.
It really is something else. That said, slots are released at t-12 hours if they aren’t confirmed. May the odds be in your favor.

Also, I hope next year’s plan includes releasing a ton more IFR slots when the TAF has IFR in it. 4 slots per hour only makes sense when you have VFR traffic.

Oddly enough, the last time that plane left the practice area was last year's Airventure according to the ADS-B history.

Little bit of googling uncovered that the aircraft is owned by a family trust for a lawyer in his 80's from the SF Bay area. His LinkdIn profile says 'Flies a classic 1948 Luscombe, "stick & rudder" tail dragger'. He has owned it for 55 years. It has an NTSB report from a ground loop 7 years ago with a 30 year old pilot, so he's not the only one who flies it, if he still does.

Aircraft itself is beautiful and no stranger to Oshkosh. It won Grand Champion in 1983.

Glad nobody was hurt and no metal bent.

It’s 8 per hour,

Scrubbed our flight out of Northern VA due to wx en route. Trying tomorrow to get as close to or actually to OSH before the show. Ashkosh. Love it. Somebody sent me a pic of the S40 and it was deserted as of... I think it was taken this morning?

We are going to make it one way or another - Either just waiting it out a day after flying somewhere close or trying to rent a car and driving up I guess. 4 IFR slots per hour?? When there is no VFR traffic due to IMC? :thinkingfaceWTF:

Oh, by the way - FU to the FU

Our current plan is fly in directly from home on Tues... hoping everyone trying to get in now is able to make it later today/tomorrow.

We’ll be there for the RV-10 dinner at 6 so we’ll see who’s around when we’re done. Might head over to the Pirate Bar in Vintage. They are in a new spot right next to the Theater in the Woods.

I talked to a pilot that heard someone get a pop up ifr so he asked for the same. Just saying…

The good news is that my tent made it to Oshkosh. The bad news is that my airplane landed at 79C when the airport shut down for the night. I am camping next to Stu’s Mooney, but I need to find a new spot for my tent early tomorrow morning.
Are you parked in the north 40? Would you be willing to let me pitch my tent on the other side of your plane for a couple days? I have to leave on Wednesday morning after my volunteer work is done.
Please reply.

Steve and Wayne? Don’t know if Osh can handle the trio of all of you! Depending on the head count I’ll get at least one if not 2 of the big tables if I can starting at 5:30 so it would be helpful if folks will sound off if they intend to be there Tuesday evening. Look for the guy wearing a cowboy hat. For those unfamiliar, Sleepy Hollow is off Waukau nestled between Scholler’s 101 Woods on the west side and the D lot/Fly-in Theater on the east side.

I’m here at OSH with my brother staying in the UWO dorms again. We will try to make it Tuesday to Sleepy Hollow if possible if you guys are still meeting up there.

We’re still planning on it with a follow on event to SoS Bros across the street immediately after.

I’m still planning a Thursday arrival. The smoke and IFR conditions will be a driving factor

It’s too bad they don’t open more ESTMP slots when the field is truly IFR.

I see Oshkosh is still MVFR. Glad we aren't seeing more issues than we already have.
