Well, looking at a weekend of much needed rain in Texas, which means I'll probably miss our largest Texas fly-in, Reklaw. That got me thinking about flying and camping, which got me thinking about Oshkosh and well... here's the thread!

UWO dorm rooms opened today for reservations at 9:00. Seems either their new website crashed because you can no longer put anything in your check out cart, or they sold out already.

I tried to reserve two rooms, got charged for two, and got a confirmation for one.

E mail I sent asking about it got an automated “check back in fall of 2025 for reservations” e mail. And no one answers the phone. Maybe more testing would have helped LOL.

And....... they apparently did sell out inside of 30 minutes and are now taking people on a wait list. Kind of funny I lost the second room between the time I paid for it and the time it finished processing it. At least I have one room, but still need another for son and grandchild. Maybe put him on floor on air mattress.

EDIT - Got a response from UWO. They said I do have two reservations, although the system I can see only sees one. I'll keep that E Mail filed away.

People always have to tell us why they're not going, or what they hate about Oshkosh, but this is a great example of how popular the event is! I've been landing at OSH the Friday before it and every year I'm further and further back, to the point that I'm considering going on Thursday!

Ticketing is now open. I renewed EAA membership, bought Aviators Club as I'll be with grandson, got UWO housing, admission tickets. Good to have the hard parts of the plan checked off.

You planning on flying up there? Your airplane's on the ramp at Paulding County right? So if you had a bad mechanical a couple of days before the show, would you sell the tickets at a discount? ;-)

Non AC rooms as well. This year it will be early Thurs morning, depart on Sunday.

Going through the 2026 check list. Too early to file a plan maybe?

Somewhat serious though - looking forward to it. I think I've convinced my son and son in law to come, as well as one of my grandkids (4 year old). It will be a Grandpa guys get away. It won't just be the Oshkosh, it will be doing it with "the guys". I see a lot of time happening at the Kids Camp building model airplanes and what not. Taking the "big kids" to the war bird camp, air shows, and of course the night show on Sat. Kind of a waste to not do things like this, not spend the inheritance.

This will be an off year for me. Did the last four years.

I don't know what I'm doing next year. I went in 2024 and had a great time. But I came solo and it was only through very fortunate circumstance I got a pass into the Boeing booth on Wednesday night and met some people that I hung out with one of the days. Stalked my favorite youtubers another day. What I learned from the experience is Osh is social event and while I can pretty much talk to a rock, its hard to go at it alone. My wife and kids will come with me one year, but it wont be this one. I might go if someone wanted to split an airbnb or offered me a seat in a plane.

Anyone have any info about the Oshvegas RV Resort? It is just outside the ground down by the South 40. Not sure if they even have any availability left, but just wondering if anyone has stayed there and can give a pirep.

It's not "just outside the grounds down by the South 40." It's on the opposite side of I-41 from the Purple Lot, about a mile as the crow flies west of the South Knapp entrance gate, which is the least convenient entrance of them all.

*If* they have a shuttle that runs regularly to the Bus Park, it might be tolerable. Otherwise, you'll need a Toad or some form of road-legal transportation as it'll be anywhere from about 2 miles to the Purple Lot up to maybe 4 miles to some other lots, and the round trip may end up being around 10 miles with all of the 1-way traffic (depending on what time you return, you may need to go all the way up to highway 44 before going across to the frontage road and back down to OshVegas).

I think even being in the furthest reaches of Scholler would have you in better shape, and from there you can use an e-bike, Scholler shuttle, or other easier transportation to get in to the show.

That is a lot further than I thought it was going to be. Thanks for the sanity check.

Confirmed our travel trailer rental reservation tonight with the owners whom we’ve rented from for the past 2 years. I reserved the campsite and scheduled the time off last month so all that’s left is to get our volunteer schedule and make the pilgrimage.

You got a spare seat in the airplane? Looks like I could use a 5 seater this year...

Anyone know if Sleepy Hollow has completed their reservations for Airventure yet? I was on the waiting list for a spot.

Reservation deposits for returning campers were due on Dec 20th. So, I'm thinking you might want to reach out and see where you stand.

Just got a note: Seems they have more UWO dorm rooms (No AC) open if anyone is still looking.

I bought tickets, and we're planning our entire summer (kids camps, trips, etc) around it, so I guess we're going. Trying something new this year...all five kids at once. God help me. No more mid week arrivals and trying to get back to our campsite with the plane will be a nice change though.

Fantastic family memories right there! Where are you all staying at Oshkosh?

We'll be camping in the N40, hopefully about the same spot as always.
