Oshkosh 2025

Heck - discounts everywhere. I refueled in southern Illinois and got an Oshkosh gas price special. First time in my life I paid less than $5.00 a gallon. EDIT - it was actually $4.45.

Warsaw Indiana had $4.20 for Oshkosh to and from! Had to stop.

Inquiring minds want to know …..

That was for the Twilight flight fest. They were supposed to do a touch & go, but decided they didn't like the wind. They rocked it maybe 30 degrees side to side, and at least that much in pitch. It was fun. We were at kidventure this morning and were able to walk out underneath of one of them.

Hmmm...well he bought either 6 or 7 cases and they brought them on golf cart. I'm pretty positive he said $55.
Those show specials aren't any cheaper than online pricing from what I see, unless you're buying on Spruce or Sporty's. XC 20w50 is only $71 at airplaneoil.com
Maybe he made a deal with them or something. He's my A&P, so I can verify at some point, but I can't believe he would buy that many cases at that price.
He did just finish chemo and other treatment though, so maybe he said it mistakenly. Or maybe I've just listened to way too much rock n roll... and F35's.

Edit:
Confirmed, he paid $75.
Also agrees that he could have said anything, and that I could have heard anything.

The blimps did a routine during the Wednesday afternoon air show—pretty cool. These versions are pretty freaking maneuverable.

Many vendors will sell off their inventory at or near cost toward the end of Airventure rather than pack it all up on Sunday and restock their warehouse. I would ask for a deal on Sunday, when the vendors would start to pack up at the end of the show. Picked up a weather station several years ago at a big discount.

I used to buy oil at the air shows and haul it home in my RV.
Yes it is a little cheaper but I really don't have the room in my RV anymore. Then I have to handle it from the RV to the airport.
Now I still buy it from Spruce but use it as a "filler" to get me over $350 for free shipping. Less handling for me this way.

Oil was so much cheaper in the olden days...2018!

Not gonna lie. I just had a momentary panic when I looked at my flight path.
When I took off 36L earlier I was so focused on the C210 500 feet in front of me while I flew hdg150 at less than 1300 MSL that I didn't even think about KFLD airspace after I exited the Osh delta. I was like "OH **** DID I BUST THEIR DELTA?!". Cleared it by (I think) half a mile. Just a reminder for anyone leaving!
There is no Delta at KFLD. It's a temporary tower, but that doesn't automatically grant them Delta airspace.

There were a couple other airports in the country that were permanently towered with no Delta, but I can't find any any more - Lake City now has a Delta, South Lake Tahoe's tower closed, and there was one in Texas but I can't find it.

After reading that post, I double checked the map and NOTAMS and didn’t see a Delta as well.

BUT - appreciate the post, as it reminded me to plan my route out to stay clear of KFLD. I didn’t want to be “that guy” who flew over the field while others were in the pattern, etc.

Dad & I flew in, first time ever. We landed Sunday evening just before the Fisk arrival closed. I found the Cessna 182 parked in camping in this photo. Was a great trip all around with few issues. Dad lost his checkbook Tuesday evening and filed a Lost & Found ticket for it and about 20 hours later the Lost & Found called him saying they had it.

Anyone else still watching the live streams from Oshkosh? It’s amazing watching from before the show, during the show and now after the show every thing that goes on….

We landed right at the same time. I hit Fisk at about 7:40, five minutes before it closed. You got a MUCH better spot than me. I was way down at the bottom of the south 40.

We used the disabled parking sign. I hoped parking would be ok and it worked out. My amputated feet needed a break.

I bought an electric scooter the week before and it too worked out pretty well at the show.

15 years ago (ish) I was pretty fresh out of the hospital after losing my right hand & parts of both feet, and we drove there and rented a scooter each day at the show then, and I swore I'd never come back to Airventure. Bringing my own was a game changer.

I was until just now at 11:15 E time they just shut off Monday 7-28-25

Friend was looking at ultralights and yesterday a vendor told him to make a "stupid" offer so he didn't have to figure out how to get it home.

Glad to hear they set aside spots for folks that need it. Awesome that the scooter worked out for you, and I'm really glad you made it back!

Well, my in-cockpit camera didn't work, but I'm loving the Insta360 camera on the wing.

This is our arrival from Watertown, WI, starting at Green Lake. Everything wen't smooth except a very slow airplane (Pietenpol or Baby Ace maybe) coming across the middle of the lake and getting in front of me. I probably should have gone back to start over, but it felt safer to pass him with several airplanes behind me. Flak jacket on.

Well damn. I was camped a couple hundred feet from you. Had I known I would've come over and said "hi".

Have watched the live streams here and there all week. Logged in this morning, and caught a little bit of it right before they shut off. So strange to see Boeing Plaza empty, save for a lone cargo warbird in the corner (C-54?). Also strange looking at things like Vintage Tower, and seeing nothing but grass, where it had been full of planes just a few days before.

Still fun listening to the towers this morning, coordinating the last folks leaving.

It seems like they got it cleaned out really fast?
I guess they started yesterday on Sunday?
Sunday is when nearly everyone who's left leaves. In fact, it looked to me like those who were in the airshow weren't landing after they finished their part of the airshow, they were just heading straight out!

One of the more interesting bits of the show is on Sunday when they drag every showplane into Boeing Plaza during the airshow to prepare for departure. Generally the biggest stuff is already gone, and so the plaza will have a dozens and dozens, maybe even a couple hundred planes packed in by the time the airshow is done at 5 PM. I don't stick around for it much any more, but here's a shot from 3 PM Sunday in 2006:

I can see our spot in row 509, about two rows east of yours, outside the handicap area. I can’t see my tent because it matches the grass. I can see the tents of the two doctors next to us. Their plane wasn’t there because he gashed the bottom of his plane on a fence post taxiing in. On field mechanics fixed it in a couple days for only a few thousands of dollars.

Anyhow, great picture!

I was maintaining my best forward speed (maybe 80 kias) and got passed by three planes on the Fisk arrival. Didn't hold it against them, I felt like they kept me in sight and gave me a wide berth. I probably would've done the same.

Kinda bummed I didn't try to hunt you down and check out your plane. Looks really cool.

No, going slow isn't a problem, I like slow planes! I did keep him in sight when passing.

Yeah, the FAA promised no more uncharted airspace when they crammed the assinine alphabet airspace down our throat, but that was obviously a lie. They quickly amended the rules for operating control towers in class E and G airspace.
