Oshkosh 2025

I was maintaining my best forward speed (maybe 80 kias) and got passed by three planes on the Fisk arrival. Didn't hold it against them, I felt like they kept me in sight and gave me a wide berth. I probably would've done the same.
I don't hold it against you if that's the best you can do. The think that chapped me was the damned 182 I kept gaining on because he couldn't maintain the NOTAM speed. I finally was going to bail and start over but then realized there was nobody behind me so I just completed a 360. The Fisk controllers said "Yeah, that will work." It almost didn't. I caught up with him again before we got to the runway. Fortunately, I'm pretty good at putting the Navion wherever it needs to be.

Usually now I just do t the warbird approach if I go flying during the show (I get in a severla days before the NOTAM starts typically).

How long can you camp with your plane or in Scholler after Sunday before they run you off?

If you leave before noon on Sunday you get one day of camping refunded.
By that logic, you should be safe at least until noon on Monday.
When we left around 11 Sunday, they were rolling up all the "fences" separating the camping area from the runway. I can't imagine they'd let you stay out there Monday night after the airport reopens.

For a few years, I'd fly in and then also drive in, and I'd drive out on Sunday, get a lift up on Monday to fly out Monday evening. Three times I have been the very last plane in the North 40.

I'd be really surprised to see someone camping even Sunday night.

We took a golf cart to Oshkosh for the first time. We drove it 194 miles in 8 days. It sure made it more enjoyable. I was surprised we put that many miles on it.
Assuming you kept it off the interstate.....

Where did you use it? Between the campgrounds and the entrance? Do they allow carts to go on the same routes as the shuttle busses? Bus park to Sea Plane base, Kid Venture, etc.? Not allowed once inside the gates ??

Just around the campgrounds, spent a lot miles on Knapp st up and down to N street. No we didn't take it to the seaplane base. Every time one of us got board we cruised the cart. It has headlites and tail lights so we cruised it late into the night. It was new and recorded 311KH.

I tried to get license plates for it before we left. I had to get a safety inspection done which I have had done now that we are back. That really doesn't change much, as we won't drive it on a road that has 55 mph limit. It will go 28 mph max.

You can't drive a golf cart to the seaplane base. (Legally, anyway.) And no, you can't take it inside the gates. But there's a LOT of area around the show in the campgrounds. 194 miles does seem like a lot, but some folks decorate with lights and go cruising in the campground!

It was nice having the cart and my wife put at least half of those miles maybe more. Any time I mentioned we needed something off she went hunting for it.
After walking around inside the show for hours, it was nice to golf cart it back to the RV verses the bikes.

And no, you can't take it inside the gates.

I saw some carts down in the South 40. People would park their aircraft there, and then their friends/family would pick them up and their gear up in a cart or car to camp with them in Scholler.

OTOH they were cracking down on e scooters this year. Saw some in the South 40, mainly because there is nobody there to stop them, but anyone that tried to go past the UL runway was made to dismount.

South and north forty are outside of the main entrances/gates - carts would be allowed there, wouldn’t they?

Tangent - since I’ll probably be staying in the dorms again, the extreme north Basler general aircraft parking turned out to be perfect. Simple and short walk to terminal, and then Uber can pick you up there for a direct trip to dorms. Works well assuming your plan is to not see your plane again until you leave.

Tangent - since I’ll probably be staying in the dorms again, the extreme north Basler general aircraft parking turned out to be perfect. It provided a great Uber pick up spot as it was right at the terminal building. No 1/2 hour bus to tram to walk to bus park to get another bus while schlepping your stuff.
N40 has a fence line that separates it from Warbirds and the rest of the flightline inside the show. I did not go down to S40 this year but in the past there was nothing separating it (fence or gate) from the rest of flightline (expect distance) unlike N40. That could have changed.

So…. People can park aircraft in the South 40 and camp there as well, or can choose to just park there and camp in Scholler?

I assume so. Several aircraft on both sides of me sat for a week without any sign of people.

No we tried to get into the N40 with our cart. The nice gentleman almost let us in and said we need a cart permit. No idea how to get one of those?
Then he said he could give us a permit for like 30-60 minutes if we had license plate on our cart? We didn't have plates so we were denied entrance.

No golf carts or cars on the airplane camping areas with some exceptions for loading & unloading, but even that is mostly forbidden during the show. Bikes & scooters, including electric, are okay. There is a security station that marks the edge of the s40 beyond which no bikes will be allowed. Things changed a bit down there this year, so I'm not exactly sure where the line is now.

As mentioned, n40 is"outside" the show, so we must go through ticket/bag check to get in. HBC is inside, and I've seen bikes in there, but they won't let n40 people in there with them. HBC also doesn't have to go through a bag check to enter the show, so make of that what you will.... Maybe they figure it's less of an issue because it's harder to haul a bunch of bikes & beer in a homebuilt?

Not in mine. 2 bikes and a ton of other stuff. No beer this year because I didn't have to haul any up, but most years a minimum of 2 cases plus water and sodas in the past -- easy peezy.

North 40 is outside the gate. South 40 doesn't have the physical barrier, but there's a line where the rules change a bit. ;) Both are considered "outside" the show and so carts, scooters, etc are allowed.

That's probably where the line is, roughly... That's the area where aircraft parking used to end (where the bigger amphibs park) before the South 40 was a thing.

Yes.

Yes. In the North 40 there's a taxiway on the north side of 9/27 beyond which camping is not allowed due to "reasons" that have something to do with the city/airport authority. Generally, in the North 40 GAC is filled from the south side near the Warbirds clockwise around the runway, and GAP is filled from the northeast corner of the airport counterclockwise around the runway until they meet. In the South 40, anything goes and GAP and GAC are all mixed up.

No golf carts or cars on the airplane camping areas with some exceptions for loading & unloading, but even that is mostly forbidden during the show.
It's not hard to get a cart or car in outside of the show days. I used to sometimes just bring my camping gear up in the car when I had a permit for the G lot and they'd always let me in (Sunday before the show). Once the show starts, no bueno.

I would expect that this will continue to change as the South 40 is relatively new and a lot of things keep changing down there as they make it better. Transportation is still a very weak area...

HBC is inside, and I've seen bikes in there, but they won't let n40 people in there with them. HBC also doesn't have to go through a bag check to enter the show, so make of that what you will.... Beer is at least unofficially allowed. I think they know how many pilots go home with a couple of cases of Spotted Cow! If you go in most/any of the show gates, if you have a pilot certificate you can bring in beer. It's part of how Wisconsin keeps our trade surplus with the rest of the country going. ;) Now, I'm guessing the North 40 gate is the exception to the above, as the reason for it is to be able to take the beer to your plane, not bring it from your plane to consume on the grounds.

Does anyone know of an aerial shot showing the entire grounds including camping, taken this year? I'd like to see how the layout and boundaries have changed since I was last there.

Once the show starts, personal carts are NOT permitted on the grounds. The EAA does have a "cart service" that can shuttle you around (though it's poorly organized), and sometimes people who have legitimate carts will offer to move stuff. If you're in Vintage, there's also Toni's Red Carpet express and elsewhere the Homebuilder's welcome wagons.
