Oshkosh 2025

@EvilEagle , is it my imagination that the Warbird turnout has been larger this year than the past few years. Figured I’d ask someone who might actually know the answer.

I tried finding you this morning. Didn’t know if you are gone or just out flying.

Somebody is in need of a 709 ride.
Yeah - but hate to see the guy harm himself and others. There are limits.

It’s not that at this point it’s how to get him to fly better. It’s about getting him to adjust his self imposed limits. Where, when, and what to fly. If I get to that point and in need of someone “taking the car keys away”, I might be mad but I’ll be better off for it.

I thought the same thing. You had 20ish Mustangs, a couple of P40's, 8 F4F's, 4ish Corsairs, an F6F, an F7F, an F8F, several TBM's plus the normal gaggle of trainers, DC3's, Skyraiders, etc. You also had the P2BY, the ME262, a P47, a P38, and probably some I forgot. I'd love to get the inside scoop on the EAA's B-17. I hope they find the money to put it back in the air.

My wife brought us a couple of them back to the camper. Ours were chicken, bacon, curds, lettuce and ranch dressing. They were good, different but good. I like curds, my wife not so much.
We tried those. They were OK for Fair food. There's better stuff to eat, both on-field and to the N/NW of the field.

For sure. We are fans of Parker John’s BBQ. We ate at the restaurant and then realized it’s the same that we had at the ultralight field that we had the first day here.

While walking the rows during the rain yesterday morning, my little cousin fixated on a handful of planes. There was one plane that didn't look like the aluminums and composites. A biplane in fact. He wanted to take a closer look. As we got closer I was like "wait a second... I think... I might kinda know the owner from our pilot group.". Checked the data page on the prop and figured it couldn't be a coincidence with the username. A happy coincidence!

Good build @ColinD! (I'm assuming this is yours!)

Tried to go to Sleepy Hollow but we saw SOS and the rain was fast approaching so we ditched to SOS tent during the red rain ;)

Not gonna lie. I just had a momentary panic when I looked at my flight path.
When I took off 36L earlier I was so focused on the C210 500 feet in front of me while I flew hdg150 at less than 1300 MSL that I didn't even think about KFLD airspace after I exited the Osh delta. I was like "OH **** DID I BUST THEIR DELTA?!". Cleared it by (I think) half a mile. Just a reminder for anyone leaving!

My guess is that FLD and various other Southern Wisconsin/Northern Illinois airports see a lot of "busts" during Oshkosh and work around them. The busts that cause problems may get reported/addressed. Like my friend who violated the TFR over one of the national conventions in Chicago last year.

Hey, thanks! I did not build it, but I've been tweaking it and improving it since I acquired it two summers ago. I've tripled the total time on the airframe, starting to feel like it's mine.

I was approached by an EAA photographer earlier today, and it sounds like he wants to write a piece on the airplane for Sport Aviation publication. The builder, Jerry Elsen, deserves more credit than I do.

Since weather looks real weird around OSH, just wanna throw it out there that if anyone needs a stop over near Chicago on their stop back home -- I can offer (free) lodging and round-trip Tom-uber from any of the KDPA-ish airports (KDPA, KARR, KDKB, 06C, ...). Just PM me.

And if you're VFR remember the cardinal rule: "Semper Gumby: Always Flexible".

Fly safe!

We definitely hand more mustangs than in the last 3-4 years.

I’m still here but another guy took the airplane home today so I’m just a spectator till we leave.

I would not like to be him once he lands. Or anytime afterwards when he gets a letter and interview.
Could be long term mental decline, could be something as simple as a UTI, which can take an older person from "Normal" to "Way off-kilter" in a few hours.

Sorry I missed you. I tried to get up there earlier in the week, even headed that way a couple of times, but it’s easy to get distracted here. :)

Well for us Osh 25 is in the books as we are now at our weekend stop in Southern Indiana on our way home. This Osh was a bit strange for us with a lot of firsts:
- 09 RNAV
- landing 36R
- 2 POA get togethers
- one trip to the Emergency Room
- last minute IFR departure slot reservation from Osh for Friday morning
- departure from 09

Otherwise it was Osh as usual although the weather was more Osh-like then in the past few years.

there is a new parking lot, the purple lot. Take a bus to the south 40 entrance. then a tram to hangar B. I ended up watching the night air show from my parking spot. I couldnt bear the tram/bus waiting to get back to my car for the drive home. I missed what the blimp said on the side, but otherwise, I enjoyed doing it that way. If only that front came through sooner, Wednesday's air was thick.

We are still here on Friday. This morning the crowd was lighter than any day this past week. That and the cooler breeze made it really nice walking around inside the show.
Watched and listened to more air shows than ever before this year.
Didn’t buy a single part or anything for the plane at home. That was a first since I am well stocked at the hangar at this time. Didn’t even buy oil.
Did spend plenty on food and apparel for both my wife and I.
Party again tonight and head home tomorrow sometime and get home Sunday.
Sorry we didn’t meet up this year, hopefully next year.

Wheels up 10:30 this morning, 3 hr flight to friends house in Southern Illinois. Maybe next year I’ll figure out how to get to Camp Shuller/Sleepy Hollow/all the other places I didn’t get to. Feel bad I didn’t get to see folks on Tuesday and Thursday.

Didn’t even buy oil.
One of the A&P's camping with us bought several cases of Phillips XC. He said is was a bargain at $55.00
I renew my Garmin databases every year with either $25 or $50 off.
Last year there were very few 'bargains' to be had from what I saw, so I didn't hit many booths this year. A little slobbering around at Garmin and Dynon.
Anyone see any really awesome deals?

Yes, next time.
No worries for now though... we'll all argue with you here on PoA instead ;)

Let’s try to meet up when we are both back in Atlanta.

Made up for you missing the meetup and EE and I had a nice chat - Heck of a nice trip - flew 24.1 hours from NH to MD to OSH with the Archer. Was only there for two days and will certainly make it three next year as it was a rush to see what I wanted. Kinda sad we have a new engine in the hangar and need to get the core back to AeroTech within three months. This engine (which is one of their's) has 2600 hours on it and I burned 3/4 qt of oil on the whole trip.

Did the Chicago Skyline on the way out to stop in Warsaw IN who had $4.20 gas for Oshkosh folks

We scooted out of the bar at Sleepy Hollow on Tuesday about 15 minutes after we got there, needed to pack up camp and head home…driving (yuck).

I had to get my flying kicks so took a short flight for fuel. Cheapest was KRZL $4.45/gal. Busy, busy…usually sleepy but everyone heading to or from OSH:IMG_8321.jpeg

Yeah that's a bit of a traffic jam at RZL. But that's my favorite gas stop in the area!

I departed yesterday and spent the night last night on Beaver Island. After all the hoopla about the Love Island and Temptation Island reality shows, I was disappointed. Seriously though it was a very cool spot.

$55 for a case of oil? Are you sure about that? It was $65 for a long time and last 3 years it’s been $75….. I miss all the bargains….

Here's the snapshot I got of the prices at the Philips tent. Probably some other places slinging oil as well!
