Tandem seating and XC (RV8 particularly)

So, the wife wants something faster  This Thanksgiving trip to FL was awesome, but she is tired of 122 knots. We are thinking of an RV8, but I haven't been able to find info online on flying long XCs, and cockpit management. Where do you put water bottles, snacks, etc? With her in...

    DA-40 experience and thoughts?

I have a chance to be a non-equity partner in a DA40, but I'd have to sell the Cherokee. Can't afford to pay fixed costs of one and hourly rate on another. I need impressions and thoughts from folks who have DA40 time. My thoughts: Seems light in cargo space and useful load. Useful was...

    Weekend Trip to Texas

Took the wife and her sister down to MIL's house in Booker, TX for the weekend (into KPYX, Perryton, TX) about 40 miles southeast of Liberal, KS). Perfect trip for a plane-as-time-machine, it's 8 hours driving time, 2.3hrs by Cherokee. We filled to the tabs. We were planning to leave...

    Angry - Pencil whipped annuals

So, I take care of my plane. I maintain anything that squawks during the year, I don't defer maintenance (other than minor items or upgrades that are easier to take care of at annual). I have my A&P shop inspect and give me a list of squawks they find at annual, and everything is fixed...

    New pilot start

My brother in law is starting is PPL. I didn't know, but at his small college (years ago) one of the professors was a pilot and had a GA class that familiarized students with GA. Business use question (red board x-post)

Hi all, a question (and yes, I did search), I have an opportunity to move to a tech company doing business development and project support. The principals are very positive on my having a plane, as I would be covering everything from Colorado west to the Pacific Ocean. This is not a...

    YIKES!! Shop rates went up

My A&P shop that has been doing my annual for years has a new owner. 15 hours at $75/hr for the inspection alone, that's $1125 for the inspection. Add the mandatory oil, filter, typical consumables, and you're around $1200, BEFORE tax and BEFORE any squawks! On a Cherokee 180! Am I...

    Weather sucks!

I've been on vacation since Saturday AM, and have not been able to get an hour of flight time in. It's been either low ceilings, or high and gusty winds EVERY DAY since Friday. I haven't been even able to get night current, due to low clouds or hard winds until after midnight. Right at...

    Is this a step up?

I've been looking at what I'm going to step up to next year. I'm looking hard at a Tiger, but that's led to some interesting discussions about "stepping up". 1 - People have told me that going from a Cherokee to a Tiger is not "stepping up". But an Arrow or a Mooney Ranger would be considered...
