My brother in law is starting is PPL. I didn't know, but at his small college (years ago) one of the professors was a pilot and had a GA class that familiarized students with GA. He has wanted to be a pilot ever since.
After several years as a missionary overseas, he and his family moved back to the US, and to Denver. I took him flying (as a usually did when he was back visiting the States), and he started talking about learning to fly.
With him and his wife just entering the job market, and with two kids in high school, he couldn't afford lessons.
So, I added him to the insurance, lined him up with an instructor, gave him a homemade gift certificate for one hour of ground and one hour of flight instruction, gave him a set of keys and said "put the fuel on the account, and pay your instructor".
Hopefully we'll have a new PPL soon. And his son is interested as well. I don't know if I can afford fuel for the both of them.....

Maybe your nephew can mow the lawn in lieu of paying for gas.
