    Flying in Aruba?

Looks like we're going to be taking a trip to Aruba next year. Anyone familiar with it? I was hoping to at least take some instruction, and get to log time there. It doesn't look like there's much in the way of anything GA on the island.

    A-4 vs F-18

I had a discussion with my teenage sons the other day about the Blue Angels flying the A-4 vs the F-18. My contention was that, even though they couldn't do some of the going vertical stuff the Hornets do, I thought the shows looked better when they were flying the Skyhawks. They just seemed...

    TFR starts at 4000' AGL?

The post about the TFRs over AZ had me go look at what was out ther. I came across this one that is for "special security reasons", but is from 9000'-17,999'. What kind of activities would require the floor of a TFR to be 4000' AGL? http://tfr.faa.gov/save_pages/detail_7_4595.html

    One Man's Observation

I've been around these parts for a few years, even though I rarely post. I've had less time to be on here since I've started my company refurbishing old aircraft that can handle severe icing for clients that want to use obscure loopholes in the tax code, that were originally intended for real...

Is there such a thing as an investment airplane

I know that if you buy low and sell high, anything can be an investment. But, ever since @pigpenracing mentioned he made money on a number of planes, I've been thinking and wondering if there is such a thing as a plane that, after purchase price, any upgrades, and fixed costs like...

    Omaha

So, my beloved Horned Frogs are in the College World Series. *IF* they continue to do well, and are still playing when I'm off this Friday, I'm seriously considering making the flight to go see them. The two airports that are nearest are Millard (KMLE) and Council Bluffs (KCBF). Anyone have...

    O-320-E2A

As best as I can tell, this engine on the PA-28-140 can be rated at 140hp or 150hp and the only differentiation is that the 140hp is at 2450 rpm and the 150 hp is at 2700 rpm. Is that right? So if I'm in a 140 that only goes to 2400-2500 rpm at WOT, then is that an indication it is putting out...

    Alaska flight instruction

When we traveled to Hawaii last year, I found a flight school that was willing to give me an hour of instruction to basically fly around the island and have my family come along. This summer we are going to take an Alaskan cruise with stops in Skagway, Ketchikan, and Juneau. Does anyone know a...

    Not returning calls

I'm getting closer to having my first airplane and I'm hoping to have everything wrapped up and here by mid-Jan. I've been calling around to mechanics, avionics shops, and hangar leasing places trying to get ready to get the plane and I'm having a helluva time trying to get anyone to call me...

Cherokee 140 and a helluva story

Some months ago, I posted this: http://www.pilotsofamerica.com/forum/showthread.php?t=84975 Well, in that logbook was another Cherokee that was the first my father-in-law logged a flight, and also the one in which he passed his PPL check ride. That one is still flying and owned by a...

    Started studying for IR

I used the Sporty's videos for my PPL and figured I'd give them a try for the IR, too. Dadgum, this is a freaking alphabet soup of terms. I've not been able to spend a whole lot of time on them, and I knew I was going to need to go through them a few times to get the gist ... but I feel like...

    IFR routing question

Had an early morning commercial flight back from Denver today. Flightaware has a cool feature that lets you look up a commercial flight and load the filed flight plan into Foreflight, and this is what came up. KDEN PYPER BGD POTTY KDFW After take off and flying the departure, we made it...

    12v and 24v systems

My wife has been on me for Christmas and birthday gift ideas. Apparently my repeated response of "A plane", hasn't been the kind of thing she's looking for. So I've been working on some ideas. One of the ideas was a BKool for summer flying. The rental planes I've been flying are all 12v, and...

    Cessna 182 and Bonanza 35

Looking through the different sale sites, it seems like when looking at planes of similar vintage, times and avionics, these planes are priced pretty similarly. Does that seem right? I know insurance and MX will be a bit higher on the Bo than the 182. You get more speed while giving up a...

    Favorite aviation related sites?

I was curious what aviation related sites y'all frequent, in addition to PoA? For forums, I usually hit PoA, BeechTalk and the DFWPilots boards. Plane porn it's countless hours on TaP, Controller and Barnstormers. General news/blog it's the Flying Magazine and AvWeb. Anyone have any...

    So I just won $310M

No ... not really. But it was sure a lot of fun to think of what my hangar might look like if I had: Cub - I'm not a small guy, and the son that would be most interested in flying it with me isn't going to be either. So maybe not an original cub, but one of the beefier CubCrafters...

What do you consider "over the fence"?

In discussions about landings and speeds, and there are a lot of references to X speed on final and Y speed over the fence. What does that reference point mean to most of you?

    MCG Tines?

I'm looking over the logs for a 182R, and there are a few entries for what appears to be LH and RH "mcg tines", or maybe "mlg", but I can't really read the writing. Does anyone know what that might represent? It seems to come up in every annual, and even some of the 100hr inspections.

    182 Gotchas

I've tried to search for some of this, but it seems like every single thread in this forum mentions a 182 in some way shape or form. Based on what I've read from so many on this forum, as much as I'd like a 6 place, it seems like the 182 hits the sweet spot for what I need to be looking for...
