Is this Heaven?
No, it's Iowa

Found myself 15 miles from Dyersville, IA, so I had to go check out the Field of Dreams. Followed the Mississippi up to Prairie du Chien for some cheap avgas and my 3rd Wisconsin airport stamp (free t-shirt here I come!). On the way home I ran 55% power at 11,500, which got me 140ktas on 11gph. Combined with the 20 knot tailwind up there, I got better gas mileage than my pickup. Thanks for supplying the mission @NealRomeoGolf

Does this foot make me look fat? It’s my “more right rudder“ foot.

The Red Bull helicopter pilot is Aaron Fitzgerald.
The helicopter on the cover of Shanghai Legacy is Aaron performing at OshKosh 2019. Yes I got permission from the photographer, Eric Van Gilder, to use the photo.
More photos here: https://www.vg-photo.com/airshow/2019/Osh2019/RBHelo.html

Red Bull's previous helicopter pilot was Chuck Aaron. He retired in 2015 and started a helicopter acro training school.

another flying bike ride day. I flew to Friday Harbor in the San Juan Islands for an 18 mile round trip ride to Cattle Pass. It was hotter than I expected, so the hills on the route seemed to get taller and I ran out of water. Still better than staying home and gardening.

Awesome. Any acro?

All the usual. After a few minutes of just getting the feel of it, I did a couple of aileron rolls, some barrel rolls and some loops. Pulled a max of 4g I think. Looking at the in cockpit video, it looked like I hit all the numbers pretty well(ie.wing level, inverted at 90 degrees of turn on the barrel rolls.)

My big takeaway from all this is that although it takes some getting used to the power and speed, and the very noticeable gyroscopic effects of that big heavy prop way out there on the nose, its not some crazy hard airplane to fly. The IP talked me all the way through the overhead break and let me fly it all the way to touchdown. I taxied it a little, but did not unlock the tailwheel and let it swivel through a pedal turn. the IP said that would be something I'd get a feel for with more dual instruction (like I could really afford it).

This plowed field in Stanwood, WA reminds me of those little desktop Zen gardens with the tiny rakes that are supposed to soothe your spirits. This field is 1,400' long, so the owner must have needed a LOT of soothing for his/her spirits!

Earlier this Summer my daughter got a chance to fly a PC based simulator at a museum with her cousins, and she loved it. I haven't done the flight sim thing since I was a kid, but decided to buy a joystick and download MSFS and let her fly on the PC in my study:

The joystick is taller than I figured and makes my 27" monitor look stupid, so I'm now shopping a $2K Dell 40" curved display.

All this is for my 5yo daughter, of course. :p

Holy crap your daughter is 5 already?!

Also, I see you didn't screw around with the stick and throttle, lol.

Just started Kindergarten - I can't friggin' believe it. And I was shopping joysticks and she said, "Make sure it has throttles and buttons for the flaps!" So I realized I was in over my head and couldn't buy some Fisher Price stuff. :p

Very cool. The photo prompted me down a shallow rabbit hole.
48.251388° -122.366250° Google Earth imagery is from May 2024 and shows grass instead of the Zen garden.
It's part of Stanwood Equestrian Center.

What joystick and the other controller on the bottom left are those? Thank you.
