Tom Tilden interview regarding fly-by-wire systems and more to the story with AF447 was outstanding.
AI thumbnails get an immediate "don't recommend channel" from me.
Nah. It’s a design flaw in me about people who tout credentials. I automatically tune them out. I react to it like click bait.Give this one a try:
I have had 3 captains greet me in the cockpit at work with the "I have been doing this for 30 years" spiel.Nah. It’s a design flaw in me about people who tout credentials. I automatically tune them out. I react to it like click bait.

Now if he really wants to make the world a better place, maybe he can help stamp-out the gratuitous misuse of overhead patterns at busy GA airports (except when operationally necessary, which is uncommon).
Last call.
It is not.Is this the Captain Ron who used to get crucified here? The one who became POAdeleted or something like that?
YepGreen bag and patches? The flight suit?
I'll have a double bourbon in a to-go cup.Last call.
Nope, you're talking about Ron Levy who I believe is still haunting the piece of junk AOPA forums. I've flown with him. Doesn't look anything like this guy.Is this the Captain Ron who used to get crucified here? The one who became POAdeleted or something like that?
My response to the call is "Two Bud Lights".I'll have a double bourbon in a to-go cup.
I used to work with a guy who would tell everybody that he knew what he was talking about because he was a "25-year lawyer." That earned him the secret nickname "TFYL" (pronounced "tiffle").I have had 3 captains greet me in the cockpit at work with the "I have been doing this for 30 years" spiel.
All are now on my avoid list. Feels like that lead in guarantees they will do some boneheaded stuff that will make the flight a pain in the ass.
AI thumbnails aren’t all the same. This one is AI but clean(ish) and not offending to my eyes. I have a large YT channel and I can’t create thumbnails to save my life. Would you rather I spent 4 hours to create a crappy one or 5 minutes creating a good one and spending the rest of the time creating good content? AI is about how you use it.AI thumbnails get an immediate "don't recommend channel" from me.
I LOVE that one! I might steal it!My other answer to "last call" is "You promise?"

Thank gawd we got that straightened out.Nope, you're talking about Ron Levy who I believe is still haunting the piece of junk AOPA forums. I've flown with him. Doesn't look anything like this guy.
I've been participating in online forums since the early 1990s. Never heard that even once. That’s funny, seems here when I put up ideas and concepts, the first thing I get is “what are your qualifications?” as if I must lead with such and by not volunteering such anything I have offered is automatically to be discarded.

I think the difference might be that, from the beginning, on the subjects where people later started to consider me to be somewhat savvy, I tended to include verifiable references rather than my naked opinion. I actually learned that from a teacher in high school. And it absolutely does not prevent people from disagreeing with me. Nor does it prevent me from being wrong.I have not been here very long at all but I’ve gotten plenty of it.

And to confirm, you're talking about the "misuse" of the Overhead Pattern Entry" not the use of it if done correctly, busy or not.Now if he really wants to make the world a better place, maybe he can help stamp-out the gratuitous misuse of overhead patterns at busy GA airports (except when operationally necessary, which is uncommon).
There are still AOPA forums???? Might have to take a walk down memory lane.Nope, you're talking about Ron Levy who I believe is still haunting the piece of junk AOPA forums.
Ran across someone that is supposedly an attorney in a different site. He was telling everyone that you were committing fraud and the FAA would take away all your certificates if you logged Safety PIC as PIC. He seemed to have a single focus on the aircraft rental agreement and didn't want to hear about how the FAA didn't care about anyone's rental contract and that would be a different issue if it came up.I used to work with a guy who would tell everybody that he knew what he was talking about because he was a "25-year lawyer.
Not as such. They pulled the plug on the red board. That was the last straw for me. I canceled my AOPA membership then. I was no longer getting $80+ a year out of anything there. There are still AOPA forums???? Might have to take a walk down memory lane.
Apparently he’s taken to writing IFR articles for AvBrief now.Last I saw Ron Levy, he was holding court there.
Except that most non-military pilots have no freaking idea where you are going. Great, call overhead break in a busy pattern full of student pilots. I guarantee no one knows what you are going to do or what they should do based on your call.An overhead entry is one of the best ways to both spot your interval and work into a busy pattern. The overhead entry is essentially an outside upwind to crosswind. Add the energy depleting turn and you have the overhead break. They’re not cosmic. Put resolving interval to the upwind crosswind instead of downwind base with everyone extending deep. Put the traffic all forward quarter not merely forward hemisphere. And have it in a manner that you will see contrast traffic vs background to which the forty-five to downwind doesn’t accomplish.

Or do what I did when I was entering a pattern a couple years ago and a nervous student pilot let me know he was on his first solo. I forget the entry I was on, but I basically told him, keep doing what you are doing and I'll get out of your way. Lowest common denominator, sure, but right thing to do, also yes.Or call it an outside upwind to crosswind entry and they’ll readily get it while having no change to what it actually is. And also stop training to the lowest common denominator. For all you strict rules adherents out there, should probably know the rules.
It is in the AIM and also it is in the AC 90-66.
