He does beautiful work.

It's going to be a sweet ride.

You betcha, starting with a 0-300-D with 0 SMOH, wet vac pump with oil separator, 6 new cylinders, alternator up grade, oil filter up grade, new cam, 12 new lifter assemblies, tail pull handles, new scott tail wheel, and springs, new wool and pure leather interior by "Stitch", new glass all around, new shoulder harness by BAS. new paint and fabric, three light strobe system, new prop set at 76/53, new wiring, all new hoses, tubing, wheels tires and brakes, and all new common hardware holding it together.

So what price tag are you going to put on it?

The last 48 that was fully restored sold for 45k. I think mine is better, the last fully restored 48 had major damage history, this one does not.

Cessna never built 'em so well!

Think 1948, the work force had just built the biggest air force in the world, they knew how to build aircraft. The workers on the cessna line were for the most part workers trained by the builders of the WW II war machine.

While that is all true, what Spike meant is that Cessna never built the airplane as well as what the end product is coming out of your shop.:D

I started with a very nice old airframe and upgraded it as necessary.
This is probably the only 170 left with the OEM rudder skins that are spot welded not riveted like most you see.

4190V was until I sold her 40 years ago to some a$$#0!& that took her to Alaska and balled her up into beer cans.

I didn't know you had finished the paint work...the aircraft looks great. Some nice springtime flying is in your future.

Painting isn't really finished, after assembly it gets trimmed in green metal flake. in the original 48 pattern. with small numbers

Gotcha...did a search of 170 images and now I know what the stock paint looked like. It's going to be a beauty.

So the fuselage and wings are painted, then?

Hard for me to tell. I don't know if it's my screen or how I see them in the hangar, but I could see it either way (painted or polished).

THe wings are fabric and of course painted, the fuselage and controls came from the factory polished, but some one in the past scotchbrighted them, so I couldn't polish again, so they are painted silver, I have one wing to re-sand and then apply top coat.

Makes my shoulder hurt just looking at it. Then again my left is way overused due to missing hand on the right.

Swinging the paint gun at arms length gets to me quick.

Paint file is much easier than sanding, it just removes the high spots.

$50 worth of new bolts to install the wings.

Ah-ha! Stupid question about the wings...had I looked earlier in the thread, I would have seen the part about the fabric.

Wow, it really does look amazing! Congrats on a job well done, although it looks as if you've got much left to do.

Labor of love, right?

No, my wife and I need a common enemy. :)

Heh. They need to teach this in marriage counseling. :)

I can't tell ya how many times we have quietly and thoroughly whipped something or someone's ass that has ****ed both of us off. Nothing like a good old feud to triple our effectiveness via the force multiplier in motivation of having a common enemy.

Whether the enemy was simply the balance sheet itself, or someone making themselves a nuisance to us both, it always turns out badly for whatever it is, when both of us are ****ed off. ;)

I know you were joking, but it's also true. It's nice having someone else in your foxhole you trust to have your back. I'm easy to **** off.

But **** off Karen (I'm already ****ed off at that point...) and you're living on borrowed time.

Karen = Hulk in that case. You don't want to see Hulk angry. ;) ;) ;) Hulk smash! She just tells me where to focus my cover fire. :) :) :)

In my wife's case I call it her "wet hen act", as in "madder than a wet hen". You DO NOT want to be on the receiving end. No, you do not.

one wing on today.

now the work starts

one up, cables connected the flap is on, it took most of the day to hook up the flap up spring.

Nice! I hung my left wing on my RV9A for the final time on Saturday, got all the fuel/brake/electrical connections and hung the flap last night. Feels good when you start assembling major chunks for the final time!
