    Looking for a thread..

I haven't been on in a long time as life got in the way. There was a thread a few years ago about a GA pilot and CFI who went on to the airlines (WestJet if I recall) and he was in his 50's. I think the thread was called "Living the dream" or something like that. Any help would be appreciated.

At a crossroads in the hobby

I have my PPL since 2015. I flew about 30-40 hours per year in the first 3 years. But my last flight was in August 2018. I just lost the urge to fly. How many Hudson flights can you take? I wanted to take longer flights, even overnights, but then when looking at the costs, it became costs...

    Flying below Class C

I'm building a house and it sits under the outer ring of the Class C about 7 miles from the airport. Living in NYC, I have never been able to fly over my house due to LGA, so it's something that I will probably do at some point once I move. The Charlie begins at 2200' (1800' AGL) up to 4400'...

Scary landing at JFK in A321 yesterday

I was coming back to JFK on Jetblue yesterday (9/25) morning. One of the scariest landings in a commercial airliner for me. I was litening to the tower on approach. Winds were 120 @ 17G27. Clouds down to 600. RVR5000-6000. We landed 4R, so a nasty direct crosswind. The wings were rocking...

I think that I busted Bravo today

I'm pretty sure that I busted Newark Bravo today. But I'm not sure because I couldn't see the Ipad due to glare. The other thing is that the sectional is so congested in that area, I'm not sure where it goes from +12 to +08 to +05. If it happened, I know it's no excuse. I departed Linden NJ...

I had my renewal class III medical last month and now a letter in the mail...

When I saw it was from FAA, I became ****ed off instantaneously. But it wasn't related to my medical. It was a chain letter regarding some new legislation that allows pilots to opt-out of having your address listed on their pilot database. Has anybody else received that letter?

    TFR warning on ForeFlight?

Often times, I go on FF and see a future TFR. This past Saturday (May 26), I made plans to meet up with a friend in NJ. I was flying out of Farmingdale (FRG) to Linden (LDJ). It's about 45nm. I had gone on FF a few days before, and even the night before, to plan my route, etc. There was no...

Man dies from fall from Mezzanine to Baggage level at SFO

http://abc7news.com/man-dies-after-fall-into-baggage-claim-level-at-sfo/3502754/ Some funny comments on yahoo: Some people just have to be the first at baggage claim "How the fall occurred is currently under investigation..." Gravity is suspected to have played a role in it. Going to the...

Embry_riddle emergency landing with oil on windshield

Sorry if this was already posted, I did a search and didn't see it. http://www.news-journalonline.com/news/20180504/miracle-landing-flight-controllers-talk-down-erau-student-pilot-after-oil-blocks-windshield NIce job, but sounds like he was an instrument student. Not sure if I could pull that...

    Lack of AME's in NYC

There used to be a ton of them, and now there are only a handful who are doing class III medicals. I'm assuming due to BasicMed, most got out. Anybody have any recommendations for an AME in NYC area? Or should I go with BasicMed? I have a SODA for vision issue in one eye. I don't know if...

Not flying enough to stay insured?

When I renew rental insurance, they always send a questionnaire to update hours, training, certificates, etc. Last year, I only flew a little over 9 hours (5-6 flights). Lack of time, work, etc Can the insurance (AVEMCO) drop me or raise my premium for not flying enough?

    Planning flight FRG-LDJ

I'm planning a flight from FRG (Farmingdale, NY) to LDJ (Linden, NJ) to pick up a friend. This will be my first flight into a GA airport that's within class Bravo airspace. My question is: Do I need to talk to approach or simply stay under the bravo (TPA is 799-to stay under 800 Bravo floor)...

What is the word on Interjet Airlines?

I think it's a new airline based in Mexico if I'm not mistaken. They are offering decent fares to Central America from NY. Never heard of them. TIA

Inappropriate ad in Flying Magazine (online)

In the story about the missing Cirrus over the gulf of Mexico is an ad for life insurance that states "Rest In Peace". I'm pretty sure those are randomly generated as to when and where they appear but it's almost as if it was purposefully (and distatsefully uploaded there)...

BFR and Checkout at the same time?

I have a BFR scheduled for Oct 13th. But last night, the flight school that I trained at and rent from announced that it's closing operations "no later than Oct 15th". It's Ventura @ FRG. So my BFR may be canceled to begin with. I'm not sure what to do. Now that I have to find a new place...

    BFR coming up

I know that it varies a lot but what should I expect for my BFR? I just scheduled it for mid-October. I will reach out to the CFI (never flew with him before, all the ones from when I trained are gone). I just wanted to get some ideas of what is a reasonable expectation. Thanks. BTW- If I...

    European airline jobs

As we know, the US requires a minimum of 1500 hours (besides the different required certificates and ME time, etc) to even apply for an airline job. Is there such a minimum in Europe? I saw a show over the weekend about Easyjet, UK's busiest budget airline. They showed student they took off...

    Embarrasing lesson

Today, I did a few T&G's to get current because I had only done 2 landings within last 90 days. I learned what it feels like to try and climb out in a Cherokee with 40* of flaps. On the 2nd landing I forgot to retract the flaps. It was climbing like it was 1000 lbs overweight, about 100fpm. I...

Has anybody had or known somebody who had a elevator/stabilator cable snap in flight?

It seems like it would be un-survivable in any case where you are more than 20 feet AGL. That's probably my 2nd biggest fear in flying, after water landing/crash. I would hate to be at 6k feet and then snap and I'm in a full (nose-down) dive into whatever is below me knowing that I will be...
