I've been more diligent about monitoring 121.5 on my last few flights. I haven't heard any meowing, but I seem to pick up a lot of long, long periods of static with no intelligible transmission. My guess is that some distant transmitter, maybe an ELT going off, is breaking the squelch on my receiver but the signal isn't strong enough to copy.

Anyone else experience this?

My experience is that if it breaks squelch, you'll hear the sweep tone, no matter how weak.
It's more likely just a case of keying (intentionally or not) a radio tuned to guard, and not talking.

You need to add a new option "Adults who never grew up". But then again, that would be the same as "All of the Above". :D

It never bothered me in the air that much, but some jackhole started doing it in my neighborhood today and I monitor the radio all day, so it was really annoying. Pretty sure they were on the ground. If they keep it up I may have to get creative.

I turned on guard this afternoon for the first time in... months? years? Within 15s..."guard" "yer on guard" "gaaaaaaarrrrrrddd". I said "eff this" and called Chicago center for flight following.

Interesting. When I was flying back from PWK on Sunday I monitored guard for the first time in quite a while. Heard a few “you’re on guard”, but never the long drawn out version. No meowing either. Must have been an off day.

:) Somebody is trying to come up with a Venn diagram that shows a difference between "average pilots" and "people that didn't group up"? Good luck with that...

My last IFR flight was quiet on the radios in general but nothing on 121.5 at all. My flight Saturday in clear skies had meows, a cricket noise and a bark. Perhaps it's the fair weather fliers doing this?

So I was monitoring guard today and I heard Chewbacca calling but I couldn't understand him because of all these jackwagons yelling about getting off the frequency and telling us he's on guard. Come on guys, Chewie might have been having a legit emergency, enough with the shenanigans.

You could have tried to calm Chewie down a little. “Fly casual.”

I monitor guard pretty much every time I fly and I am constantly hearing people goofing off on guard. Anything from meowing to other other animal sounds. Occasionally someone will actually broadcast to an FBO in error and someone will invariably tell them to go ahead with their arrival notification.
I know that people are fishing to get a rise out of others on the frequency and to get them to respond, so I stay quiet, but I do not understand supposed professionals doing that kind of stuff.

Mrs Howell - the cougar. The un aired episode. Now I’ll never think of Gillian’s Island the same way again.

Samantha or Jeannie

Jeannie, of course.

I can only imagine the network meeting where that show was first proposed:

"I have a great idea for a new show."

"Yeah? What's the idea?"

"We put Barbara Eden in a harem costume."

"What's the show premise?"

"Who cares?"

"Good point."

Newmar in a heartbeat. Could steal a scene from anybody, and from the sound of it pretty sharp. Couple of patents for clothing design? If wiki is right, she's still around, in her 90s.
