What did you do today?

Just brake pads but that’s because I come in full throttle then slam on the brakes and hopefully stop before the end of the runway. You know, a normal mooney landing.
Yup. Pretty much the opposite results of a @Jim K landing. Full power. Chop power. Drop like a brick. His plane probably doesn’t have brakes. I got brakes with my pre-buy annual and those still seem to be fine.

I thought you guys just ding the prop to slow down. :)
Only when landing on anything not perfectly paved with our prop clearance measured in micrometers. I jest - I’ve not picked up any green on my taxi tours of OSH. And there were some oh **** moments for sure.

As I'm currently recovering from rotator cuff surgery, yes, I do know. Fortunately, my recovery has progressed (3 months) to the point where I can do most things except lift heavy things; still not sure about hand propping the plane, though.

I spent a good part of today practicing welding so I can build my new landing gear. It's frustrating; I'll run several inches of beautiful bead and think I'm finally getting it, then it all goes to hell and I have a great big ugly mess or snot or blow a hole in the piece. But the welds are holding when I beat them with a hammer, so there's that.
Best piece of advice I got... Work towards comfort. Figure where the weld will end. Get comfortable there. Then reach to where you'll start and weld towards that comfortable position.

Green doesn’t count until it stains the wing leading edges.
My home drome used used to do that while taxiing. And it's paved...sorta. Since the sale things have drastically changed. New tractor and mower. New fuel pump. Just sealcoated for the first time probably ever. Airport currently closed until Friday... I think we're getting new edge lights.

Flew for the first time in three weeks. I hate going that long. I also haven't flown any approaches since february, so I took advantage of some crappy weather to get a few in. One into DCY for $5.30 gas, and then two into EVV (sorry I didn't stop @crash7 ). Still got it.

I took a student pilot up into what was left of the clouds this evening to grind out some of the 3 hours he needs. Did 2 approaches. He did great! Nothing like getting paid to keep up my own ifr currency…

Washed the windows that I didn’t get the other day.

I was going to give the kitchen a deep cleaning, but now we have no water. Fricking well/reverse osmosis system failed - holding tank empty, booster pump running constantly but no water, controller appears to be on the fritz. And of course even though I called at 4:00 the company is waiting until after 5:00 for someone to be available, so we’ll probably get an after-hours charge.

This is our second house that is on a well. Never again - they’re too much trouble and expense.

Cut some firewood, then went for a hike, about 6 miles. Cut some more and stacked it when I got back to the cabin. I love being retired.

Repaired the Beech’s door latch. A spring had broken which allowed the flush-mount handle to flop out. Beech borrowed the door latch from a 1960s camper trailer.

Tried and failed to get our old Husqvarna tractor running. I suspect the fuel pump has gone bad. New ones are fairly cheap on Amazon.

Opened the swimming pool. After a couple of hours of instrument refresher ground school.

Well, it turned out that our uncommanded loss of water pressure was due to human error. Earlier in the week, the company had been by for the quarterly service - filter change and inspection. He unplugged one of the electrically-actuated valves and forgot to reconnect it. So as the holding tank got depleted, it was not refilling.

Today is going smoothly so far. Flew to coffee at Okeechobee, did a simulated engine out and a power-off stall (well, tried anyway - could only get it to mush - STOL kit plus forward CG) on the way back, hit the gym, and now it’s time for housekeeping.

Burned a finger and thumb changing my oil. Didn't let the oil cool down enough apparently.

Looks good; what was for dessert?

In other news, I finished planting today. I'd have to go back & look, but my gut feeling is this is the longest planting season I've had. I started first week of April. I've planted in June before, but that year I think I didn't start until may.

I also got the new back tire on the Rocket III and washed and waxed her so I can ride to my meeting in the morning. Haven't ridden her in a couple years so I took her out for a quick rip to blow the water off.... holy moly that thing is fun.

Helped a friend acquire his first airplane.

Drove up to the far northern reaches of Minnesota, disassembled this J-5 and hauled it back to St. Cloud.

It needs to have some paperwork sorted out, and after a thorough annual we're hoping to offer tailwheel training with it.

@ColinD, am I putting two (your last name) and two (your airplane color) together correctly in assuming that you’re related to the airstrip that got a highway built through it a number of years ago?

Ran out of Rattle Can Red…but the rust is cleaned up on that panel.
Funny story. Years ago my dad was doing paint and body work, first for a dealership then on his own. He was working on the front quarter of something and was having a helluva time getting it to blend. He took the paint code off the vin. Finally he had the guy that years later would paint my race cars stop by.

First thing that guy says "why'd you paint a red car brown?"

Car was repainted and dad is color blind.

Dad's truck is at the dealer for trans issues. He had to borrow mine. I wanted to pick up some queen bees 90 minutes away. I'm too lazy to rear my own. Was only fair I took his 2006 Z06 with 22,000 miles. After all, it is in my garage while he's making room for his 2027 z06.

Did my best ferris bueller imitation and then started some nucs

Played with the grandbaby.

Spent time with her parents. Considered a lightly used jointer and thickness planer on a cart. Sanded and stained some wood.

Thought about flying, having been up in several weeks, probably going to fly this week if the weather holds.

Wear it proudly!
Long ago, I had an old, bright yellow, 2-door Toyota Corolla hatchback. As the years rolled by, it began to rust along the door edges. To remedy, I sanded out the rust and hit it with Rust-Oleum primer--brown. Never did get around to a yellow overcoat. As the years piled up, the car sported more and more brown detailing. Eventually, I donated it to a charity.

Such details show a car well-loved.

Signed up to volunteer at the Stearman Fly-In @ The USAF Museum. Will be working Friday afternoon 19 June.

The one at Galesburg IL? Nice! I fly there quite a bit to use their courtesy cars and go to an ice cream shop in town. Very much like that airport.
