What did you do today?

Landed today

I had two pairs of jobsite required steel toe boots provided by employer (the US Navy); both were horribly uncomfortable. I gave up on them and just wore my 1970s vintage hiking boots instead; they were sufficiently chunky looking that nobody ever questioned me.

My only onsite injury there was when somebody dropped a 2X weight HARM missile test slug... on my thumb. Hurt majestically and I lost the fingernail, but no permanent damage.

Today, I was going to work on the Parrakeet's landing gear but instead I went hiking in the woods behind the house... wandered off the marked trail and the land conservation trust property so I suppose I was technically trespassing. Saw some treestands, I guess I won't go there during hunting season.

Was one bumpy ass 14 mile flight home.
Yeah, I wan planning on knocking some rust off my commercial maneuvers around noon today and after a few head brushes on the ceiling, gave up. First time seeing Westosha 5k6 truly turned into a gravel pit.

Was just a bit south at 10c a bit before noon. Dad used to have a hangar at westosha before the hangar at c81. Last time I checked the hangars at westosha were still up.

I really wanted to participate in a work party at the Ranger Creek airport up in the Cascade Mountains on Saturday. Sadly, the Aviation Weather Service was showing limited IFR conditions in the Mountain Valley along the White River. So, I changed plans and flew North in VFR conditions to Orcas Island instead. I didn't contribute anything to the greater good, but I had a great morning!

Isn't that sort of like target shooting with blanks?
No, it’s like shooting the target at 5 feet and quickly running it out to 20 yards while no one’s looking and firing more shots. After which you very sloooowly reel it back in to the amazement of other shooters.

Flew from Lakeland FL to Cecil to drop off a friends 9.3x74 he used on our last moose hunt then to Columbia SC. Home to NH tomorrow. This guy greeted me at KCAE.

Got on the elliptical for the first time in two weeks. Been nursing a not broken but severely bruise rib and associated cartilage and muscle. Took it relatively easy, but it felt great! Still hurts but I'm on the mend! Today, I'll do it again and throw in some light weights.

Found out where I’m gonna be when I die (but not when). Gotta admit it was a lil strange standing on top of my own burial site. But I do like the tree I’ll be under, so I got that going for me, which is nice.

So how come there's no noose hanging from the tree?

Because I plan on being drunk enough to just fall out if it*

*the tree, not the noose
Is this everyone's reminder to keep you from climbing trees at rough river?

Started the day with a walk,it was hot and humid. Then drove the air conditioned car to Taco Tuesday at the airport. Too many storms popping up in the area.

Spent the morning fly fishing on the Toccoa. Caught one nice rainbow, had another just like him break off, and missed strikes from a couple more. Also caught one silly little chub, about 4”, who seemed very confused about how a teeny little spider was dragging him across the river.

Learned that my waders seem to have developed a leak in each leg, somewhere below the knee. They’re at least 10 years old, so I suspect the seams need to be sealed.

Went to PT for my shoulder, worked on the new landing gear for the Parrakeet for a bit, and then because it's a beautiful day rode my ebike (first time since I injured the shoulder last September) to the airport and back. Most of the ride is on dirt roads through the state forest, about 20 miles round trip (would have been 17 miles but I got 1½ from the airport on the way home before realizing I'd left my helmet in the hangar so I had to go back for it.

Flew 3 hours XC, about half in MVFR. Flew a practice flight in the contest box at Lagrange. Should get another tomorrow. A good start.

Flew back from Lakeland on Monday - drove by Wimauma from the folks house - thought your hangar was open but was in a rush as I had stop by Cecil to drop a rifle off for a friend before the wx went bad then go up to Columbia SC for the night before coming home to NH. I'll try and give you a heads up next time. I don't really want to take the Cirrus into FD-77 or 48X. Maybe someday but too new to it now.

I've been leaving it open lately unless there is weather. Definitely give me a yell though!

Failed to land a trout I hooked. I @%$^& hate !$#@&!! barbless hooks!

But when you're standing all by yourself in the middle of a beautiful river in a beautiful location, not another fisherman in sight, with a fly rod in your hand, it's still good. Even with leaky waders.

Finally got to take my Cayman to the Tail of the Dragon. Took some of North Georgia's fun roads up there, and did a round trip of the Tail.

Great day for it, school's still in session and it's the middle of the week, not all that many vacationers, and not much traffic.

Nice. Have you tried it on the Cherohala yet?

My wife and I attended the Open House at the new FBO’s newly remodeled facility at Salisbury, Maryland (SBY) Airport this afternoon. Nice gathering, with snacks and swag.

Wouldn't that be: Foxtrot Uniform Golf Foxtrot Uniform?
