What did you do today?

Nice. Have you tried it on the Cherohala yet?
I haven't. Although I am retired from working, my wife will be working for the rest of the year. She's on vacation this week, and part of my motivation to go yesterday was to let her have the house to herself. Cherohala sounds like another good trip to give her some alone time.

Next up for me is Porsche Club of America's track weekend at Road Atlanta at the end of June.

Found gas 1.60/gal cheaper 30 miles away. Turned it into a fun round robin on a brilliantly clear day.
I couldn't figure out why no one was taking advantage of it when I was the only airplane on the ramp but things came alive as I was departing and I heard the line queuing up.

All by its lonesome:

Nauga,
and his tanker toy

Went for a short flight, washed the plane, had a Coke Zero.

First day of annual. Opened all the access panels, removed interior, prepped for my mechanic to do a 500 hr crack inspection. Lost a screw in the process, grrrrr. Spent 30 minutes looking in every corner and still nada.

Rejoined the League of Temporary Airmen today after discontinuing my CFI initial ride for crazy winds on Thursday.
Dude...congratulations! That's a big deal!

Launched 2+ hours pre-trigger, 0/8, tops 6800 AGL. Plenty of light air moving up. ~3 hours after release. 3d season charm. :)

Replaced one of the connectors for our stabilator trim servo; it had been having some issues with intermittent trim indication. Always fun to work on the ramp in direct hot sun with a 15 kt wind on the tail. They've got the taxiway between the T-hangar rows torn up, so we're living on the ramp for a couple months. Fun stuff. It only took me three extra round trips home for tools I didn't have with me.

Took my mom up for her third ever flight in a small plane. Casually snuck in a 30 degree bank 360 while she was looking for her house. She didn't notice

Similar experience years ago. You can't pay early, their system won't let you. If you pay late, they lock you out. Whomever came up with their business practices is somebody that was shoved into a locker many times as a kid, and he's taking it out on the world now.

Jammed or broke my right middle index finger. Do you know how hard it is to wipe your ass with the opposite hand?

Yes. After I broke my right collarbone, I realized that I needed to change hands for certain tasks (of course, in my case, it was not a problem since I'm ambidextrous)

I have just the thing for you...

No hands needed!

My wife is retiring next year, and we had been planning on moving. Our house is just short of being 30 years old, and has the original master bathroom, and was getting pretty shabby, so I finally prevailed on her to agree to getting it redone. The builder had originally installed one of those jetted bathtubs that you can never get clean enough to use the jets, so we repurposed its outlet to power the washlet. At first I thought this was totally extra and over the top, but it's really nice. It contains all the odors, cleans itself, and it gets you much cleaner than paper can.

When the remodeling was completed, she told me we can never move, which is fine with me.

Pressure washed the driveway. Two days ago I pressure washed the patio, which is pavers. But not to worry, it’s Florida and it’s summer so they’ll be turning black again within six months.

The worst decision I’ve ever made on a house was getting talked into pavers for a patio in Florida. The original patio is stamped concrete. It needed some work when we bought this house, but it really would’ve just been pressure wash and seal a few cracks. Clean, repair and painting it would’ve been the way to go if I knew what a pain pavers are.

Pressure wash yearly, reseal about every three years. And I need to sand them because the guy that did it didn’t use the good polymerized sand, so there is nothing in any of the gaps by this point.

I’ve been thinking seriously about pulling the pavers, removing the sand that was placed atop the concrete and going back to the original.

picked the plane up from annual woohoo
Any specific issues pop up? Mine has been good a couple of years running except an electrical gremlin and some minor, easily corrected, corrosion on the steel bits. Even this year, already buttoned up the airframe with a little fiddling todo on exhaust #3.

Just brake pads but that’s because I come in full throttle then slam on the brakes and hopefully stop before the end of the runway. You know, a normal mooney landing.

As I'm currently recovering from rotator cuff surgery, yes, I do know. Fortunately, my recovery has progressed (3 months) to the point where I can do most things except lift heavy things; still not sure about hand propping the plane, though.

I spent a good part of today practicing welding so I can build my new landing gear. It's frustrating; I'll run several inches of beautiful bead and think I'm finally getting it, then it all goes to hell and I have a great big ugly mess or snot or blow a hole in the piece. But the welds are holding when I beat them with a hammer, so there's that.
