What did you do today?

Stressed myself sick over delays in getting an ID renewal approved. Of the two ID's I have (and need), one expires in two years and the other expires tomorrow. It took over a week to get that second ID approval to be extended...

It'd be awful to lose your identity. You'd simply vanish from the planet without a trace. Nothing to worry about, though. Mom and I would look after @SkyChaser . At least until we needed her to look after us.

Set up a Pi Hole on my home network. I should have done this years ago.
If you ever get a router that runs OpenWRT, install AdGuard on it. But if you already have a R-Pi set up, consider adding Wireguard to it.

I'll look into it - thanks!

Ridiculously easy via PiVPN. Paste a curl command, set your inbound IP/domain, port forward, copy over the client config and done. Then you can have your pihole wherever you go.

Three racks of baby back ribs in the smoker right now.
The ribs were/are quite tasty. While they smoked I soda blasted the powdercoat off of our engine mount ring, and mag inspection shows one or maybe two more little cracks. Wonderful news, whoopee. Oh, and managed to keep a five year old from breaking anything, including himself, in a machine shop.

Little hint, (it worked on me as a kid, and worked on my sons at that age), keep a coffee can of bent/used nails around and give them an “anvil” (any flat surface will do) and a small hammer to “work on” making them straight. ( slam a couple wood pallets around a bit and burn them, then rake up the nails ). It entertains them for hours.

Psh... I got a plasma cutter. Cut that aluminum up to fit in that barrel.

In fairness that was going into 3rd grade so a few years older.

Not my shop. The owner of a fairly large engine shop is being kind enough to let us (me, and another guy with a similarly cracked ring mount) do the prep work before he does the TIG welding.

If I'd had access to a plasma cutter at age 5, very bad things would have happened.

I say that because one evening my parents left me alone in the house for about 2 hours at that age, and I rearranged all the giant over-stuffed furniture in the living room. When they came back they thought someone had broken in...all these questions about "who was here" etc. FINALLY they asked who moved the furniture around, and I said I did. Then they explained why that was impossible.

Then I told them they shouldn't have left the tool bag by the door, with the hydraulic bottle jack, rope, and manual strap winch in it. Yep, I found spots to lift the things up with the jack, attach the winch, and pull everything around where I wanted them, then I put the stuff away. In retrospect, it's also good that we didn't have a piano then. I probably would have destroyed it, and it might have landed on me.

I finally watched One Six Right, a documentary about the Van Nuys airport.
What did you think of it? After all the hype I'd heard I bought a copy and watched it. I kind of expected more flying and less airport story.

It's great if you're having a hard time getting to sleep.

This guy's youtube video is one of my favorite airport documentaries:

I watched Ethan's newest video on his hangar.

He is doing some great content on general aviation and is an excellent story teller. Worth checking it out.

Absolutely agree, didn't live up to the hype. Was kinda cool to see my old boss as one of the commentators.

It was suggested to me that I am not serious enough when online. So, I have changed my avitar.

A 100-year or so old photo of a fellow Wisconsinite named William: William Mitchell.
He was quite serious. As an added bonus, he was also not the least bit controversial.

Cut, ground, cleaned, ground some more, clamped, ground some more, repeat. Made reinforcing sleeves for a cracked engine mount, including the places that are not cracked but probably will eventually. Then cut and formed a couple of gussets out of .050 4130 steel. I won't be doing the welding, but it's pretty much ready to be welded.

Flew 1.3 on a gorgeous day. Got to practice landing a a crab which is the only way to handle a crosswind in an original Ercoupe.

Got back in time to see the Longhorns get whupped in the “Shoe”. (But not by much). Usually I’m for whoever is playing against “THE” ohio state university but made an exception this time.

Rich guy paid double time to install a stainless counter top in his bar by the pool. Stainless gets lights and then quartz on top. Rich guys son lives in the pool house. Garage has a bridge to get to the main house. His garden was impressive. I let him know I'm up for adoption if interested.

His son is working on his CFI. Told him to call me when he gets the cfii.

I put new lowering springs and struts with adjustable camber caster plates on our GT. Did the front today, tomorrow I tackle the rear. The weather was perfect.IMG_5744.jpegIMG_5743.jpegIMG_5747.jpeg

Spent the last 20 minutes or so sitting in the car while my wife was in Target figuring out WTF GMC Motor Homes, Czechoslovakia, Wisconsin and Bill Murray’s junk have to do with each other.

Went to a fly-in lunch thing with a couple of my hangar neighbors. AWOS at home base was reporting VV001 and 1/4 mi visibility when we got to the airport, cooled our heels and did some hangar flying for a couple hours while the fog slowly lifted, arrived at the event just as all the townies and classic car people were leaving the airport. Ate brats and corn in peace, an absolute win.

Flew 1.8 this morning. Visited a friend in the hospital this afternoon. Grilled t-bones this evening. Watching CFB tonight.

Pretty much a full day. I love retirement.

Pharmaceutical sales?

The sun came out and provided 3 to 4 m/s of lift here and there. I put 0.13 hours on the engine, burned about 35 oz. of 1:33, and truly enjoyed myself soaring for 1.8 hours after stowing the prop.

He did dabble in some sort of processing but that venture didnt mature. An investor with his hands in a lot of things and roots in commercial real estate.
