What did you do today?

Since I’m grounded with a broken wrist the bride and I went and bought a new to me SUV. My 2003 ML320 has 255k so it’s time to give her a break. I bought a Porsche Cayenne to replace my ML320.

We’re holding on to the ML 320 for a potential suv for Florida if we purchase property next year.

“Thought” about flying. “Hoping” I can make it happen tomorrow.

I got 7/8’s of the way around it welded on the “y” pipe of my 1972 Cadillac limousine ( I did a valve job on the engine, and the manifold to exhaust and manifold to head bolts had bad news if you even try to remove them written all over them. Much easier to cut the Y pipe and then weld it back together). My regulator on my tig wasn’t working correctly so for the first time in many, many years I welded thin metal with a stick welder. I didn’t have enough room to crawl under it to get the last 1/8” welded and the sun was setting, but I have a plan for tomorrow to get it done.

This is one of those posts with more questions than answers. You have a 72 Cadillac limousine? Why? Why haven't you posted a picture? How did you have rods on hand suitable for that thin of metal? Who welds exhaust pipe with a stick welder? Why didn't you just buy a new regulator? Do you not have a MIG? I'm beginning to think you're quite insane

I did it once back in high school before I learned how to use a wire feed machine. Ugly, but effective.
I prefer to Tig if it's clean material. I am a machine.

6013 is a sweet running rod for thin material.

Where is that?
Between the Flat Tops and Front Range (Colorado). And today's forecast is almost the same as yesterday's.

There are lots of bowls with a centered body of water pulling air down so it can flow back up along whichever slope has sunlight.

It’s spelled eccentric.. and it’s not a stretch (the assumption, the task or the car). It’s a “fleetwood 75” model, they were available as custom orders through cadillac dealerships but cost twice as much as an eldorado (the second highest priced model in Cadillac’s line) so not many were made. I’ve owned it for decades, I bought it really cheap when it was at the bottom of its depreciation curve, and I was broke and needed a cheap car. After about a year I got a more rational car so it had sat parked out in a pasture. I’ve slowly been tinkering on it off and on for about a year now, full driveline, accessories (except AC) have been gone through and it’s road trip ready. I missed the “sitting on a couch that is floating on a cloud” ride it has, it needs a new coat of paint and some detailing work, but it’s a nice weekend cruiser to take the family on short road trips (it LOVES the interstate, it’s geared to just pur along at 75-80mph).

As for the regulator it’s a 45 minute drive each way to the closest place that would have one and they are not open on weekends, (one of the reasons I had a box of 1/8” E7014 rods in the shed. Living in the boonies, I stock a lot of things in my sheds for the “just in case” so I don’t have to make a special trip or rely on the stores being open).

That's....awesome.

I would find it very difficult not to dress up like this:

what-cloths-do-dictators-wear-v0-fvwl3zrrnp4d1.webp

and have someone drive me around in it.

Ya, my wife has already made it very clear that I will not be allowed to sit in the back while she drives lol. ( I have honestly looked into getting some of those flag holder things that go on the hood though for after it’s painted and the window tint is redone lol).

Discovered at the last minute that the rear springs I was ready to install were for a coupe and not sprung for a convertible.
duh….Now I can’t get the correct ones till Thursday.
Luckily it can sit there until next week.
Being it is a convertible means it has additional bracing bolted to the chassis that has to be removed to lower the rear axle to get the springs out. PIA I don't want to do it twice.

Tell her it’s either that or steer horns.

I actually had a set of horns on the hood of a hopped up diarrhea brown ‘76 ford LTD 4 door way back in the day (same exact make and model as in the original terminator movie). Matter of fact I still have that car (minus the horns) parked out back…. The tree wasn’t there when I parked it

This August has been good. It's final day provided a near repeat of its pentultimate day. Six minutes up into the bottoms, then two hours imitating the hawks.

The 2 frame reinforcement brackets for mustang GT convertibles in the picture below. Takes 6 bolts to bolt it in per side.

Spent the last 20 minutes or so sitting in the car while my wife was in Target figuring out WTF GMC Motor Homes, Czechoslovakia, Wisconsin and Bill Murray’s junk have to do with each other.
Aaaaarmy training, sir!

I messed up.

I took out my honey spinner and capping tank for the bees to clean.

However, I left the side door to the garage open. Figured I'd open the overhead door to let the few dozen bees out. Did not realize I left the lids off the supers I processed. So now I've got thousands of bees in the garage, hoping they go back home when it cools down.
