What did you do today?

Got the trailer out to clean up and get ready for the New Mexico elk hunt in a few weeks.

Ummmm.... it might take you 3 weeks to get here using a mini tractor...

And for your hunt I hope the weather cools off here. I think this has been the hottest August I have experienced in NM.

work, driving range, flew for food. I guess technically I work for food, or maybe I work to fly for food. either way, food was involved.

Had a weird experience here.

I think it is called rain, rain from a thunderstorm.

Man, it has been so long since we have seen rain here...and yes, I did go out and dance in the rain.!!

12 speed Honda 3 cylinder diesel. . Easier to spin the trailer around than with the truck.

Been watching weather. The mountains above Abiquiu, they're calling mid 40's for a low this week and looks like at least their monsoon season has started. Leave the 12th so a few weeks out. Hot and dry wouldn't really effect me. Just changes tactics and makes water more of a premium. Adapt as needed. Luckily I know where some unmarked tanks are that are off the beaten path.

A little flying…

The grandkids are heavily into Lincoln Logs…they’ve got several sets that are a few generations old, and the parts that break/go missing have broken and gone missing. ;)

Roof slats:

And large trusses:

I sawed and chiseled this one out, but I’ll use it as a router template for the rest, with just a little chisel work to square up where the router can’t get into the corners.

Watching rain fall. Again. Wishing I were flying.

Rainy days and Mondays always get me down.....

if only you could send some up to the Boston area. It's been a bit dry up here.

I re-read this thread
after the polite and civil economy thread I was following was shut down.

Had to let my sister's absolute DOPE of a dog out for lunch. English golden retriever. I'm absolutely not picking up dog poop. Especially not 4 bags of it. Not when ive got 5 acres. Go chase the goats and poop in the woods fat boy.

He came back full of burrs. Maybe that will teach her a lesson not to ask me anymore.

Had a flight for breakfast two days in a row. Also managed to get a walk in.

Moved almost everything (except the plane) from the to be vacated hangar to the to be FULLY occupied hangar. Amazing all the Cr** one accumulates in a hangar that you saved “Just in Case” but is basically useless. 1-800 Got Junk is coming Thursday to take a S*** load of stuff away.

Cut grass. Swept hangar floor. Finished tearing down the last of our air show stuff, gave an old guy a biplane ride after he helped me haul some aluminum bleachers back to the local high school. Fixed my damn Fein belt grinder. Replacement OE switch (containing new sealed-in-packaging smoke) was $400+, seemed like it had some solid-state components in it. I installed a decent magnetic contactor and called it a day. Employee who damaged it hasn't fessed up.

Nobody did it. Ever.

Or... It's been like that. Really? I bought it broken?

Finally finished restoring an old canoe I got a few years ago in serious need of attention. Took some sleuthing but I figured out it's a Mad River "Explorer 16". Refinished the hull, and replaced all the wood. Except for the seats which I bought, all wood is locally harvested ash, cut and milled on site by friends and myself as we salvage the dead ash trees around our cabins killed by the ash borer beetle.

Tomorrow I'll carry it down to the lake for the first paddle.

Got new landing lights and really wanted to get them on so I ditched tacos at KLOT. Flew up to BUU to fuel up. Guy over the threshold as I'm taxiing, "fancy lights there Cherokee" They couldn't be more new.

They definitely helped landing at home on a 40' runway with one side of the edge lights inop and no vasi/papi.

Went flying after work. Did some mild acro. Did some landings. Dropped by the local Cajun place on the way home for shrimp and beer. Got home to find both the spouse and child are covid positive (again). We're out of COVID tests and I have a headache.

Also, I have a **** ton of work to complete by Friday at the job that pays for airplanes, beer, shrimp, SWMBO, and our son.

Hmm.

Yesterday:
Did a Lifeline flight to CKV
Met @Racerx 's hangar neighbor
Hopped over to M21 for cheap gas and to add another airport to my list, only to realize I had already been there
Bought 62 gallons for $4.40/gal anyway
Waved at @crash7 and @Skyrys62 as I flew over their houses at 8500'
Got home and remembered I forgot about the thing at LOT, so I drank a beer instead

Monday, I woke up.
Then I went downtown to find a job
Then I hung out in front of the drugstore.

Tuesday, I woke up.
Then I went downtown to look for a job.
Then I hung out in front of the drugstore.

Wednesday, I woke up
Then I went downtown to look for a job.
Then I got a job.
Keeping people from hanging out in front of the drugstore...

(with apologies to Sister Mary Elephant)

Today I wrote a memo citing we did everything right per policy (after another team told us to forget the policy and it's an issue anyway). Then someone asked me what to do about needing to talk to someone who is out of the office. I promptly looked up their boss and copy/pasted the name in response. This - every 15 seconds, 1000x a day, everyday, maximum firedrill.... sigh

But later I get to go flying!

Got a 6ft stick of PETG tube from McMaster Carr and made a DIY Fuelhawk fuel dipper. In this hot weather, gas sometimes evaporates off my old wooden dipstick before I can read the tank level.
