What did you do today?

Maybe they could come and party with the thousands of spiders that seem to be having a party in my garage.

I messed up.

I took out my honey spinner and capping tank for the bees to clean.

However, I left the side door to the garage open. Figured I'd open the overhead door to let the few dozen bees out. Did not realize I left the lids off the supers I processed. So now I've got thousands of bees in the garage, hoping they go back home when it cools down.

Not many hives have such a large door!

This is what happens when you get a girlfriend.

Or get the wasp out of my panel who comes out when I fly acro.
Trying out some new manuevers? What do you call em?

Gah dammit....sunnuva.....motherffu....got him!

Worked, looked at the RASP. It was a very nice day for those who were off and had reservations.

Spent a while troubleshooting and re-programming my guitar fx pedalboard. I need a new delay pedal. The Behringer pedal I’ve been using sounds like crap so I pulled it off the board.

When you play a bass and sound like Mike Kerr from Royal Blood, lemme know.

Looked at my new rental hangar this afternoon .
Pictures tomorrow when I move in. It's got lots of room but still has a 30 year accumulation of odds and ends left behind.
It has electric heat, Bifold door', and came with a gas dolly. Big rent adjustment from old sliding door hanger. $15 a month more if paid year in advance.
$660 a year. Have to stretch the budget a bit for that.

Added another tool to the collection: A torque screwdriver.

The driver is pretty nice but the bits are hot garbage. Needed a trip to the big orange box for a De Walt bit to finish the job.

I watched Ethan's newest video on his hangar.

He is doing some great content on general aviation and is an excellent story teller. Worth checking it out.
I met him when we were both getting fuel for our planes. He's very enthusiastic and is definitely good at telling a story.

Afterwards, I looked up his plane on the registry. He'd just gotten it at the time, and so the former owner was still listed - And the address on it was my grandmother's old house that she lived in for 43 years, from the summer before my mom's freshman year of high school until her death (my grandmother, that is, mom is still kicking). And, in fact, the house that my mom had to clean out after Grandma died and she found some personal effects showing that my great grandfather had been a pilot. We hadn't known before that.

Friday: Finished a Seneca II checkout, because I just can't burn money fast enough in my single apparently.
Sunday: IPC, and maiden flight of a 3D printed RC plane I built with my older son. It flew beautifully, but on the second landing the prop caught the ground and tore the front part of the fuselage at the layer lines where the motor mount attaches. Not going to be printing that part out of LW-PLA next time...

Cool 3d plane!
Bummer about the engine... That's why for RC, I'm a big fan of push prop designs like the AeroScout.
You have to really botch the landing for a prop strike!

Good point! Ironically, this was just going to be a "test flight" kind of day. The plane is an Eclipson Model A, which was free when we downloaded it *but* had no landing gear. I did find a "saddle" style gear addition someone made for it online, but I hadn't built the gear yet and with summer waning I figured I'd get it in the air first and then decide if it needed landing gear. Landing gear probably would have saved it for at least one more flight...

My son was flying a Flite Test foamie and he's finally getting OK at it. The reason it looks so worn is that last fall he flew it into a tall tree, and it spent the entire winter in the tree. Now that he's seen how fast the bigger bird is, I think he realizes he's not ready to fly it yet so he asked me to look for a smaller (, lighter, slower) 3D printed plane we can make for him. The one that I think we're gonna do for him is the 3D AeroVentures Micro SportCam, a single-motor takeoff of an Aircam:

Should be light and avoid issues with prop strikes. I'll probably put some kind of assistive device in it so it's even easier to fly.

The sky and the RASP this morning did not offer much promise. It was lovely on the eastern slopes of the Front Range but rainy with isolated T-storms to the west. But then, after lunch the front made it's way east.

This afternoon and early evening there was a lot of 3 to 3.5 m/s lift in the bowls. Enough for 1.33 hours of soaring after a 0.15 climb.

It's not a Discus or Ventus, but with it's little engine a towplane or winch operator is not needed. And it is light enough that a good time can be had with moderate lift.

The forecast is for more rain tonight. But those gaps make all of the difference.

Paid second installment of my property taxes. There's something wrong about property taxes being more than the mortgage.

My property taxes have been more than my mortage for several years.

Ok, I admit I'm not being fair, my mortage was paid off several years ago.

Discovered these in my new to me hangar. Gallon and quart cans.
Texaco uses to have a refinery in my home town. Cool find amongst 30 some years collection left by other tenants.1000008831.jpg

Those are really cool. If you're looking to sell a couple....

Was 34' up in a lift, all the built up static discharged the equivalent of a stun gun when I touched a structural member. I'm awake now!

The little black static discharge strip was missing on the lift. Holy cow that hurt.

2 1/2 mile walk with the pup
Shot 100 rounds at sporting clays (took the 1940 LC Smith 12 gauge)
Cut the grass
Watered the new apple and pear trees
Helped the neighbor trouble shoot his trailer lights
Inoculated myself against scurvy (via a margarita)

Protected yourself from worms as well. :)

Replaced a sprocket.

And yes, I considered turning it around, but this one lasted the life of the chain (well, sort of), and is a ***** to get to, so I spent the $100.

I looked into getting my motorcycle license - but all of the classes are full through the end of the year. Probably for the best.

Went to a concert last night with The Drifters, The Coasters and The Platters. Songs from my somewhat misspent youth and I'm probably one a tiny minority on POA who know any songs they sang but the hall full of geezers knew almost every word after 70 years or so.

Bonus points for matching the Names with the Photos

Finished putting two planes in one T-Hangar. Other than getting a lot of accumulated odds and ends sorted from two hangars, not a real hard effort. Having a lift from the Airport Authority to install the mount for the Block and Tackle saved the day.
