What did you do today?

It's funny...After a lifetime of working on trucks and tractors, the tiny tools and delicate touch required by airplanes has been quite an adjustment. I could count the number of times I used a 1/4" drive socket on one hand before airplanes. Not having to beat on things with a 10lb. hammer? Weird. Not having to remove 25lbs of dirt before starting a job? Really weird.
Yea I like working on aircraft since the one's I work on are mostly clean and easy to get to most things.
Verses a car or truck.
Rear engine dragsters is similar to working on aircraft. Worked on dragsters for 15 years.

Flew for a couple of hours this morning. Beautiful CAVU morning. Flew up to Leesburg then across the state to Crystal River, then flew down Florida's west coast for a while. Great flight, plane and OH'd engine working well.

Spent most of yesterday helping run a workshop for project leaders for Operation Christmas Child. Fun, but a lot of work. OCC will consume a good bit of time and energy from now until early December.

Staggered home in the RV. ;)

Drove it up to church early yesterday to work on projects, and spent about 8 hours working on the piddly little stuff that always needs to be done but isn’t quite major enough to make it on the list for a work day. Came up with some more projects that need to be done, but not when it’s 90 degrees outside.

Went to Church, Lunch with a lovely lady, and off flying. Hot and bumpy, cross winds gusting at landing. Not a particularly fun day but educational.

Why do you want to replace your Ercoupe? And with what?
Doing mostly solo flying and outdated avionics. Still a nice fun airplane for just tooling around and $200 cheese sandwiches.

Buying a newly completed Merlin Single Seat E-AB. I’ll sign up for the LSA Inspection course so then I can do all the maintenance and condition inspection and not worry about finding an A&P or A&P IA which are getting scarce and expensive around here.

you know you'd think in the "what are you bringing" column on the fly-in spreadsheets you'd have 'corn' next to your name. or honey, one or the other or both.
Lol. You don't want to eat this corn unless you're a cow. I will bring some honey though.

I've always found it interesting that of the millions of acres of crops being grown in the Midwest, very little is for direct human consumption.

Took the Subaru to the car wash to get the Florida bugs off, then changed the oil in the van, then full yard job, cut trim blow weed. Then went over the yard with the spreader to overseed with fescue.

Will be headed out to the bicycle club board meeting shortly.

Last Friday I worked, and went flying late Friday night.
Saturday I did a brake job and tire rotation. Did lots of work around the house.
Sunday my Wife an I pressure washed a concrete porch. Then watched some of the Bengals game. Right before half time she drove over to northern Ky to get solvent based porch paint that you can't buy in Ohio. All we have here is watered down crap for paint and no oil based paints.
I painted 2.5 gals on the porch after the Bengals game. Then got drunk after I cleaned up.
Today Monday I went to work and this afternoon I ordered a new F-150. Yeah!! Took a couple hours and am going to trade my old truck in.
Tonight I remove the snow plow mount so I can bolt it on another F-250 work truck for use this winter. No way am I going to put a plow on a new 150.
That's my last 4 days. I got a few pictures but I won't bore you with them.

Started in on this

Far better than expected. I might get to keep my airplane.

Did you get hit with rust/fungus this year? Reading/seeing where Iowa is really struggling with southern rust and general disease this year.

I remember ~20 years ago when I was running the combine for the farmer I worked for, we were extremely happy to see a 200 average across a field and now people say "Well, we might ONLY make 200 on this field with all the disease we have this year...".

No more than usual. A prophylactic fungicide treatment is pretty much standard practice here. If the disease breaks through that a rescue treatment won't help anyway.

I remember in the 90's a seed company gave out "200 bushel club" pins if you could prove a field average over 200 using their corn. Guessing it was Wyffels as dad grew a lot of that brand.

Probably because Iowa stole all of Illinois' rain. Not enough rain here to help the fungi grow.

Let me send some grass from my lawn, you’ll catch up quickly.

I was a baaaaad little boy today.

My mom was throwing out a box, a FedEx box. So I took it home with me.

I had some much smaller boxes that I put inside the FedEx box.

Inside the much smaller boxes I went through the kitty litter stuffed all the kitty cat tootsie rolls I could get in each box.

Then I sealed up the FedEx box, and set it out at the end of my driveway.

And now it is gone.

I can't believe some person or persons would steal a FedEx box setting next to the road at the end of my driveway...

heh heh heh heh heh.!!

Next time you’re going to do that, I lease let me know. My dog has a pretty severe case of the Tijuana Trots and would like to contribute to the cause.

Renewed a badly, seriously out of date passport (what the Immigration fellow told me coming out of Canada yesterday.)
Went to P.O. in Great Falls today without an appointment.
Got photo at Stapes $20 . and as luck would have it, A cousin's daughter was on duty at Passport office and expedited me,No appointment needed, I had all the forms filled out. Paid the 130$ fee and the 35$ PO fee, And on my way. :)

You're way too kind... If I were going to all that trouble, if I were in a place where I had to deal with all that trouble, I'd be tempted to have the inside box be something that might have a label on the inside that said "this side faces enemy".

What is the monthly bill for trash collection to cardboard box price ratio in your area?? You might have found loophole…. lol. (Maybe if enough people start setting out their garbage to be stolen it would stop the trend??).

Im old enough to remember the giant TV's. We got a new tv like that when I was a kid. Then stuffed the box full of garbage. We don't get garbage pickup, just bring it to work and toss it in the dumpster.

Anyway, we went out to red lobster one night. When leaving we realized someone stole the box from the bed of the truck not realizing it was all trash and not a new tv.

Hmmmm, you might be on to something here. I definitely need to cut monthly bills.

Pumped the spring to get line reprimed.
8000' of pipe on surface. Can't bury it because of wetlands.

I got checked out in a rental C150 today, capping a year of trying to get access to a reasonably-priced aircraft in a resort town with no flying clubs

I’m happy with the plane, but dang, after 20 years of Skyhawks and a Cardinal, the 150 is like flying a kite on a gusty day. Except a kite climbs much faster

Made a couple quick and dirty aluminum patches on a 77 year old food truck. Roof fairing was cracked originating at the door frames. Door frames were originally held together by a single aluminum rivet in the upper corner, which was sheared off on both sides. Added a little gusset plate. Guy needed it back the following day, so I used blind rivets and a doubler plate on the skin to expedite the turnaround. Someone swapped the body onto a Chevy pickup frame and didn't have the best mounting strategy, so I advised the smashburger chef he would likely encounter more tears or buckles going forward. Would have liked to have spent a week with this one, but nobody is going to pay for that.
