What did you do today?

This morning I had coffee and watched RADAR

watching the plumber install a new indirect-fired water heater. Looking forward to a hot shower again...

Did a little currency work. 3 approaches, one RNAV w/ HILPT, one VOR, one ILS in one hour, all hand flown. Not usually that efficient. Ceiling was about 600, and I was mostly above the tops at 3000; perfect conditions. Pushed currency back through January. Got some vitamin D. Seeing that runway materialize out of the mist never gets old.

Ok, so apparently I have flying money again. After almost everything else was done, there was one thing left to take care of and we were coming up on our closing date, so we filed for an extension. The sellers didn't sign it in time, so the deal fell through.
Back to no flying money! Offer accepted on another house. This one is a million times nicer than the first one and is move-in ready. The other one needed some work. On the downside, the new one is more expensive. On the upside, it's closer to the airport, so.........

Under Contract today to sell my Fractional Condo in Steamboat Springs. Still have a place for the Winter so A) my new plane (Merlin LSA) is going to be much closer to being mine now and B) winters will still be on the mountain except I lose indoor parking.

Went to a funeral in a foreign country.
Time in line to enter said country 5 minutes.
Time to re enter the US ,one hour and fifteen minutes.
Little traffic going north @ 10 am , tons of traffic on way back at 2pm.

Finished up the Lincoln Log parts for the grandkids…made some for some friends at church, too, while I was at it.

Licoln Logs were the absolute best. 30+ years later from that age -- I can still remember the exact spot in my grand parents house where I used to build all kinds of lincoln log houses, before I'd make the big, heavy, probably tetanus-laden rusty toy truck bulldoze through aforementioned house.
Then start on a new structure and repeat :)

Just saw the dog for the first time in 2 weeks. She went straight to hunting chipmunks. Nice to see you too.

I need a new house, can you build some full size Lincoln Logs.??
Those are full size. ;)

I also took apart a defunct robot vacuum for parts…a handful of motors, some switches, stuff like that. I figure we can adapt them to Legos to build a little sawmill, among other things. Maybe some Rube Goldberg machines. Who knows.

Grandpa is enjoying his late childhood.

Finally got the engine fired up again yesterday afternoon and did about 15 minutes of test run. Our condition inspection turned into an engine-off ordeal after we found a cracked mount. Had to re-set the prop pitch and found a problem with the regulator connector, but everything else - oil temp and pressure, CHT, EGT, all good. If all goes well we'll test fly today.

Used a garment steamer to soften the adhesive behind my 3-inch N numbers and Experimental sticker, removed them from the 30 year old painted fabric without damage. Cut and installed new 2-inch 'NX' vinyl numbers. Definitely didn't do a touch & go at the RC plane field to test out my enhanced stealth capability. :ihih:

We’ve got a nice paved RC runway right next to a lake here. It’s got a centerline and everything. Not that I’ve ever been tempted.

Found my waste pump in the basement to be seized. Called plumber. Then tried to pay tolls for our trip through NY and the website refused to let me. I guess I'll keep my money and give it to the plumber.

Like most of you, when people find out I’m a pilot, they want to know if I can fly them to _____. I always tell them, “You buy it, I’ll fly it!” (So far nobody has taken me up on that…)
We have very different friends. Mine just ask if they can go for the Wade Boggs record

Do you know how many chipmunks it takes to fill a freezer??

First, assume a cubical chipmunk. Next we estimate that a gutted and skinned chipmunk is about 0.005 cubic feet. Deep freezes vary, but roughly 10 cubic feet is a typical size.

Filling such a freezer will require approximately 2,000 chipmunks. Now, we’ll lose some efficiency since real-world chipmunks aren’t cubical, so realistically you’ll probably fit between 1500 and 1800 into your freezer.

"We leave it to the student to calculate what 1800 dead chipmunks would smell like"

Real world chipmunks also aren't brought to me field dressed or skinned. They just appear randomly in the yard.
