Romantic Interest @ my flight school

You’re a flight instructor at a flight school. The pay is crap. If the higher ups say “you can’t do that” then you move 1/4 mile down the road to the next flight school and carry on with your romantic interest.

Don’t let a job stop you from being with the one you adore….unless you’re a high school teacher. Then maybe dial it back a bit and seek employment as a diesel mechanic…or a politician.
1/4 mile down the road? That is some serious flight school density.

Some of these responses should have stayed as anonymous as the OP.

The OP aint ready for the big leagues if asking

It's actually a nice cross-section of what a female CFI deals with on the regular and why she might be "shields up" as a default to our long-gone OP.

The few we were able to hire were some stone cold superwomen who could throw saltpeter at any dude driving to the hoop in a single glance, without even breaking her train of thought.

To me, this is the biggest obstacle.

I'm not a CFI and I don't know much about CFI employment, but from what I have seen from the outside looking in, CFIs rarely stay in the same place for very long. So unless one of you is a supervisor to the other, and unless you plan to stay where you are, I say go for it. The worst that could happen is what @schmookeeg said. Why let a temporary position over-ride a potential permanent relationship.

There could also be the issue of whether the flight school has any regs against this, but even then all they could do is fire you, which brings me back to the part about where employment as a CFI seems pretty transient.

Full disclosure: I met my bride at work where they did have a rule against it. But I held 3 jobs since then and then we opened our own business and are still married 35 years later.

A long time ago I met a girl that took my breath away. We became a couple and that totally changed the direction of my life. No regrets. We just celebrated our 40th anniversary, and she still makes my heart race. Life is an adventure. Who you share it with is way more important than a job.

In less than a month we’ll celebrate our 40th anniversary. We also met at work, fresh out of college new-hires. Big company, though, so we were in completely different departments and rarely saw each other during the day.

I do think it’s important to separate personal and professional lives. I witnessed the downside of that at a small company where I worked much later. For a flight school? It’s a very small world, tread carefully. It can work, though, just go in with your eyes fully open.

I also met a woman who took my breath away. When I finally convinced her to give me back my O2 concentrator, we had a pleasant conversation. She ended up being a pretty nice gal.

Hi, I am a flight instructor at my local flight school. One of the other instructors is a very attractive female instructor my same age, single, and with the same life goals. I’d really like to ask her out, but I know romance at the work place can be a no no. That said, I don’t feel a flight school environment is your typical workplace either. Is there ever an appropriate time to seek this out or is it a hard no and I move on?

Have you tried the pilotsonly app? She might already be on it.

This has to be a troll post
It’s not and yes I’m still here lurking.

Story short, I don’t think it’ll happen. Shortly after posting this thread, she told the flight school that she wanted to take a sabbatical for a month or so to get some health issues under control. Here we are 5+ months later and she still hasn’t returned and there’s been no sign of her. Maybe I should text her. I wanted to take her out on a date, but it might just not be in the cards. Heck, she hasn’t flown since July or August.

She’s probably dated and dumped three other guys by now, or she’s married and three months pregnant. What have you been waiting for?!
