Romantic Interest @ my flight school

I was a cook at a restaurant when I was 18. My wife was a hostess.
I asked her out. Now we have been married for 25 years.

Sure, she was working as a hostess in a restaurant when she met you, but did you pick her out and shake her up and turn her around, turn her into someone new?

She was working as a hostess in a restaurant, that much is true.
But even then, she knew she'd find a much better place, either with or without him.

The only problems I've seen with workplace dating are when the guy can't take no for an answer. If the girl gets fired for some unrelated issue and sues the company for unfair termination, her lawyer will throw in a claim of hostile work atmosphere because the company did not stop co-workers from making unwelcome advances.

But life should not belong to the lowest denominator. Make an effort to get to know her as a friend, flirt a little, and see if she responds. Take it slow and take the hint if she waves you off.

Some feel sorry for us, some are lousy judges of character, some like fix er up projects,....

If it weren't for that truism, I'd still be single.

Poor Mrs. Half Fast. That unfortunate woman went out on a sympathy date; next thing she knew she was in a sympathy marriage. I'm blessed that she has low enough self-esteem to stick with me.

Dang. The kid is talking about asking a girl or and some of you are worried she might not be marriage material! Have you heard of dating?

I didn't know incels were publishing studies now.
They aren't. Been conducted by people without any skin in the game.

A slight refinement to your otherwise correct observation.
There was actually 2 that I read about for the Gen Z dating landscape. One was they took like 100+ guys and 100+ girls, showed them pictures and I think they knew what their jobs or income were and rated them 1-10. They asked each group which ones they would go for and thought they deserved. The women who were rated all the way down to 3, pretty much exclusively picked the 8 9 10 guys. no 5s 6s or 7s. The 1s and 2s still picked way above their ratings. No men inder 5 got picked at all. The men almost uniformly picked within +/-2 of their ratings.

The other was one of the dating app sites that pulled data showing 80% of the women swiped (whichever direction is the good direction) on only 20% of the guys. The men pretty much cast as wide of a net as possible.

That's the Z generation. Just setting the expectations.

Let that be a lesson to you. If I had just gone out drinkin with the boys instead, I would have a much cheaper house, and a crap ton of money and toys in the garage.
Instead, its just kids and dogs everywhere.

I am glad you posted here so I can save you from making the same life choices I did.
I didn't realize the movie Waiting... was a documentary about your courtship to Eren.

Ignore these cranky old farts.
Ask her out. The worst that will happen, is maybe she’ll say no.

If I hadn’t taken a swing with the hot girl at work, I wouldn’t be married to my most excellent wife today.

Agree with the comments about avoid if supervisory relationship. Speaking of which, less than one year out of school, 8 or so people in a hot tub, my supervisor grabbed my junk. She apologized at work the next day. Be more subtle.

When I met Ms. Andee I was having my best day ever and she was having a real bad one. I reached up and managed to catch her before she flew away. Thirty seven years later we are both still here and lovin' it.

But to answer the question ... go have a discussion with her over the FAR's. It will either end quickly in a knock-down drag out, or the bonding process will begin ...

Then 5 years later on she's got the world at her feet.
Success has been so easy for her...

And just what is your definition of feminine and why is it an issue here?
Well, I said "feminine in the broader context" to be precise, and I don't think that's really that mysterious of a sentence. Girls in aviation are being taught what are generally considered to be more masculine traits, and if they are a CFI and captain material, they will tend to be of a different mindset. Could it work? Sure, but I wouldn't put any money on it going past the limerence phase. Two guys competing with each other is one thing, marriage partners competing seems to fail a lot of the time.

Hi, I am a flight instructor at my local flight school. One of the other instructors is a very attractive female instructor my same age, single, and with the same life goals. I’d really like to ask her out, but I know romance at the work place can be a no no. That said, I don’t feel a flight school environment is your typical workplace either. Is there ever an appropriate time to seek this out or is it a hard no and I move on?
Tell her you'll take her out of she quits her job. If she does, she's definitely more interested in being a Mrs than a CFI.

I knew a young gal about 20 years ago who could fly circles around most of us. Embry Riddle grad, bizjet capt, well regarded aerobatic competitor, Reno Air racer. And she was VERY feminine and attractive. So they are out there.

Sadly she was killed in a structural failure (builder error) during a Reno qualifier. RIP Erica Hoagland Simpson.
