PoA slowness?

Right now I’d give PoA performance a 7 1/2 on a scale of 4 to 33 1/3.

Things are running quite slow.
Earlier this morning I was getting database errors, which I can't remember having gotten before.
It was running great for me this morning. Probably a 990,000 out of 1,000,000.

At about 10:15 it went to hell and is now a .0005 on a 0 to .0632 scale (.0632 being 99/100)

clearly the poor server is struggling to compute these byzantine ultra-precise decimal judgement scales. :P

The database errors were me installing some monitoring software this morning.

I just thought my gerbils (who run on the wheel to make electricity) were tired. But, really, who wants fast anyway?

Just an update. We are hitting very high CPU loads at some points and I think part of this may be a database issue and part of it may be the type of cloud instance we're using. I've deployed tools to watch both and it takes about 24 hours for them to give an analysis. Hang in there, we'll get this one solved.

If it serves as a data point, I have great performance in the AM, (Central Time) and poor in the afternoon. A 4PM local, it took about 40 seconds to load the page, but no delays once logged in.

Opps updating that :) Posting took about 30 seconds of activity

My current hypothesis is that we are running afoul of a "burst" feature of AWS where we get a certain number of "credits" to use up in an hour and we've just started getting busy enough that we are using these up.
I can get around that, but I'm waiting for the performance analyzer to complete rather than just poking at it with a stick like I've been doing so far :).

After we had the GNS480 installed in my plane, my wife told me that I need to explain what I was doing so she could learn to. I told her I just pushed buttons on it until it did what I want. She didn't find that reassuring.

I'll add in my 2 cents for the Admins. I've also notice the site to be very slow to load and refresh the last few days.

ADDED: It took about 15 seconds for my original post to actually be saved to the site.

Just logged in and saw this thread. For me, PoA is running S L O W L Y this evening.

EDITED TO ADD: It took 13 seconds to post that one-line response.

found the guy that doesn't know how the Internet works

Ah, a lesson in how t3h internets work from chief quotes-14-month-old-comments. I actually had that on my 2025 Bingo Card. "X"

Sure looks like it's a webcrawler or DDoS...

Whatever you did, seems like it worked. So far.

Good Job (with three attaboys attached).

Back to normal...great!

Any chance it could be related to this? Seems to correlate to when we first started to notice performance issues. (I doubt they're targeting PoA, but I wonder if we're taking collateral damage due to a "nearby target" that's causing AWS to go bonkers?)

I don't see anything in our logs that indicate anything other than normal user access (other than an annoying AI spider from China I can't shutoff, but it's not hitting things that hard).
We had a AWS instance type that was designed for bursty users that worked well for us but I've had to scale it up once before. It was just configured that things got throttled back once you got to a given point (so it would go up and down all day as the throttling cut in and out).

'something' is definitely goobered up with PoA. I'm getting notifications (in tapatalk but NOT in poa) of things but when I go to look for them they aren't where they're supposed to be..... when I got to "what's new" there should be threads with new posts in them, even if I have read them. they aren't showing up anymore. I recently got a notification that someone replied/quoted me but when I go to what's new it isn't there. this behavior is definitely changed recently, maybe the last couple of days or so. also search is worse than ever, with it almost completely ignoring what text string to search for at all. 'something' is up, I can't really explain very well what I'm seeing.....

performance is fine, just some whacky quirkiness. like talking to steingar, it's weird but you just can't explain it.

I've been seeing some instances of PoA slowness the last few days, on and off.
Right now it seems like pages are taking anywhere from 10-30 seconds to load.
Thought it was my interwebs, but confirmed it isn't. Anyone else?

Yes

Yeah, same here. Other websites are loading normally, so it seems like a POA problem.

Probably excessive moderation bogging down the site again....

would you say it's running.................half fast? a quarter fast?

count me as someone that isn't seeing a problem with POA speeds

I'm still in Airline hell right now. I have been getting alerts about high load. I'll check if I EVER get back to CLT. I may end up getting a car and driving. I decided I couldn't take PHL anymore and drove to DCA last night. If I can get to CJR, I could even retrieve my plane from the mechanic who just finished the annual.
