No Show Fee

You all are being trolled. New account, keeps conveniently leaving out important details such as how long the lesson was supposed to be, what the normal rental rates are, how the cancellation fee was calculated and then gets argumentative in all his responses.

This was not my first post, and it was not asking for validation, it was asking for advice. It wasn’t a hole in my argument. Please explain to me how it was. I said that in all caps because he said he had been taught to keep from getting dehydrated. It is extremely hard or impossible to stay hydrated with a stomach virus, hence why I went to the ER. I was emphasizing that’s what I had. I never plan to be a first officer as I’m only doing sport pilot.
Yeah, both here and on Reddit - now that I’ve seen that dumpster fire - you don’t seem to have the self-awareness to see other people’s perspectives. That’s a huge red flag, and it can cause major problems with aviation.

You provided an example of this right here in this reply that I’m quoting: Instead of asking me to explain the holes in your argument, re-read the posts you don’t like assuming that they are, in fact, giving you a helpful perspective. You are throwing the burden on others instead of owning the learning you need to do, and yes, you were seeking validation rather than understanding because the majority of your replies are defensive.

As I mentioned in my first reply, I frequently don’t bill reasonable cancellations, out of genuine concern for my clients, and trust that my financial needs will be provided for, but if I was your instructor, I would also likely be sending you to a different CFI after reading this thread unless you displayed a significant change of attitude because this kind of stuff, in my observation and experience, is more likely to get someone hurt than you might think and I wouldn’t want to be responsible for that.

No one is being trolled. The lesson didn’t really have a set time, I didn’t know that was important, and I have no idea how the fee is calculated

That is simply not true. You or no one else can tell anyone’s true colors from the internet. I hate people that Think they can. No I was not seeking validation in any way what so ever. You are crazy if you think that. I was posting to see if other people thought it was fair, and if I should try to fight it. That’s it. I didn’t get defensive until people started being jerks. Unfortunately in this work, a lot of people are jerks. Especially when you go online and find all the old codgers that think they know it all…

Well, in case you're sincere, I would look at this as a life lesson for future similar circumstances. Also, you should probably read the school's ops manual so you understand all policies to avoid a potential surprise in the future. Good luck with your training!

"You were well enough to drag yourself to the ER... how sick could you have been?!?" Spoken like an employer of illegal labor who pines for the halcyon days of 19th century antebellum.
Sending a text in the ER waiting room the day before is not even in the same stratosphere as being forced to work through illness.

I can text with my head between my knees while praying to the porcelain god.

Agreed. The level of narcissism is pretty comical in that they have displayed zero ability to accept that what they did was wrong/improper. That alone tells me I wouldn't want to keep dealing with the client.

Trolled or not, it’s high.

Renters don’t make that much PROFIT. Instructor fee, sure… still no guarantee he coulda filled the slot.

No wear and tear on plane or risk…. Instructor never jeopardized cert. don’t see asking full price. I believe the school has the RIGHT to ask that though, as long as customer was aware.

There is no narcissism

It’s not trolled, and there’s absolutely no narcissism.

Not sure how anyone can make that determination unless we know what was agreed-upon. Was this a 4-hr block of time? That's easily $200+ of CFI time. Was the instructor responsible for aircraft rental charges even if it never left the ground? Is the fee set in stone/writing as a deterrent for situations just like this where students don't have the decency to send a "I am too sick to fly" text? Lots of unknowns about the situation.

It’s not that I didn’t have the decency. I wasn’t able

Maybe you weren't able to while you were sleeping. But you absolutely knew the day before while in the ER you probably weren't flying.

It's literally the first part of the IMSAFE checklist you should be learning about as a student.

I've never heard of someone being sentient enough to go to the hospital and not have the ability to send a text while at the hospital. And then dig in this hard.

You can't play a full house and a straight flush in the same hand.

You also seem to have a reading comprehension issue. I can’t see your true colors, true, but what we can see is a red flag, standing alone by itself and no, I’m not crazy.

The people you were defensive towards were not, in fact jerks, but trying to answer your own question as to you why they believed you should accept the charge. You didn’t like their answers, or thought them unfair, and label them as jerks? You’re doing the exact same thing you accuse us of in this post, assuming that they are jerks and old codgers from their answers.

Pot, meet kettle.

Gonna have to agree to disagree on that one, chief. If you're good enough to get yourself to the ER, you are good enough to send a text.
That is not true. I work in EMS and plenty of people that go to the ER are not able to text. I felt terrible, and didn’t think to text. That’s a whole lot different than not having the decency.

Ok that’s where I draw the line. You have no business telling me that I have a learning disability, and there is no red flag to be seen. People were as a matter of fact being jerks. It was nothing to do with me not liking their answers.

I have said a few times that me and the instructor worked it out, and it was no big deal. People just keep dragging it out.
well I asked first and I aint readin thru all this cr#p.

if you worked it out, why was it ever a question then? seems odd to complain about something that's been resolved in your favor.

Didn’t think to doesn’t equal was unable to. I ask again, if you had been scheduled to work would you have notified your boss?

It was not resolved when I posted, only after I asked. That has also been said

I’m a part-time professional instructor and I would absolutely have that discussion with you if you were my student. It’s a matter of professional concern for the rest of the aviation community and the pilots you fly with in the pattern.

I was scheduled to work on Friday, and my girlfriend thought and texted my boss for me. She didn’t think to text my instructor and I didn’t either because I felt so bad.

Gonna have to agree to disagree on that one, chief. If you're good enough to get yourself to the ER, you are good enough to send a text.

People have managed to get themselves to the ED with heart attacks, after being shot, etc

you are getting beat up pretty good. again, I'm not reading the whole thing, but you say this happened this past weekend. you posted about it today. I asked if you talked to them about it. now you're saying it already got resolved. WHEN did it get resolved? if prior to today, then WHY POST IT? if NOT prior to today, then did you talk to them because of the recommendation to talk to them?

Yall I need some advice. I had a lesson scheduled this past Saturday, and Friday morning I woke up sick with a stomach virus. I wound up in the ER the majority of Friday morning, and even a week later I am still not 100% better. Well as you might imagine, I was still really sick on Saturday, and slept pretty much all day, and didn’t think to call or text my instructor to cancel. I woke up approximately 3.5 hours after the lesson time, and immediately texted and apologized and told him what had happened. Well today I was looking at my bank account, and noticed a $215 charge I wasn’t expecting. I texted him about it, and he said it was a no show fee from Saturday. I don’t think that is fair considering I was sick. What’s yalls thoughts and what

If you were too sick to work, would you find a way to notify work? Probably more important than just wasting your CFI’s time, though, eh?

What discussion?

Nope. The ones that are being jerks. I never wanted anyone to validate my thoughts.
To quote you:
That is simply not true. You or no one else can tell anyone’s true colors from the internet. I hate people that Think they can.
By your own standard you cannot know that they are actually jerks and you should hate yourself.

Was I physically unable to? No, but I felt bad, and thus was not thinking correctly and didn’t think to text. We all know being sick can alter decision making, hence why it’s part of the IMSAFE checklist. I was sick, and I didnt feel like texting, nor did I think to.
