No Show Fee

So once again you are accepting no responsibility for your actions. If you were talking to yourself, would you listen any better than you listen to others?
That’s not true. It just wasn’t a blatant disregard and disrespect for my CFI like everyone is making it out to be. I listen to others quite well actually

the place I get my haircut at has a sign saying if you are a no-show to more than 1 appointment you get tar'd and feather'd and they also charge you the apt fee. I'm a man so I don't make haircut appointments but for those who do, they've been warned!
Not to. hijack the thread (though I kinda am), but when I moved to North Idaho I immediately knew I'd found my forever barber shop. No appointment necessary, walk in, pick a beer from the 100 they have in bottles, cans, or on tap, then settle into an easy chair in the TV room until they're ready for you. And it costs less than my no-frills barber back in NJ.

People have managed to get themselves to the ED with heart attacks, after being shot, etc
Not sure this event quite reaches that level of mortal danger. People also get shot and make phone calls to their significant others/emergency services while en route.

I've been in the OP's position before. Recently actually (I got very sick in january and missed the Cedar Mills PoA fly in).
The hotel charged me for the entire stay despite never checking in. Totally preventable had I called the hotel and let them know I wouldn't be able to make it when I suspected ~48 in advance or so, but it wasn't on my mind because I was sick and spending 90% of my day sleeping.

But I recognize they were unable to sell a room specifically because I never called. My unhealthy misfortune should not punish them as well. The CFI is in the same position. Standing there at the airport waiting for a guy who doesn't show up. He makes the drive/commute to the airport and clears his schedule and then someone doesn't show. He's out both time and lost income. He deserves to be compensated.

I think the moral of the story for the OP is just to be a bit more proactive. It sucks that you were sick and ended up in the ER, but you still have to have the presence of mind to handle your other obligations -- or you pay a price.

That’s exactly what it was. If you could find the time to notify your boss you could have notified your CFI, but his time wasn’t as important to you as any repercussions that you might have suffered for not notifying your boss.

My girlfriend thought and texted my boss. She didn’t know to text him

It absolutely was NOT. You are crazy for thinking so.

Depends on how sick

If he’s trying to to make a mess of his car or the waiting room, texting a CFI might not be on his mind

so I shows up one day to get my haircut as I always do....show up, get hair cut. it happened to be on a weekend and they were busy. they told me it might be a little while, and I was like meh, that's ok. then a father and 4 kids walk in. apparently they had an "appointment" and they were all before me as well even tho they showed up after me. I got ****ed, not at the place for being busy or even having to wait, just over the fact that a dude made a haircut appointment. I didn't know that was a thing. also, they didn't serve beer :(

This is the most useful post in the entire thread. I hope you enjoy hanging out close to that place, because at present you are scheduled for 17 different appointments over the next 2 weeks. Please send pictures of the tar and feathers when they finish.

Eh, 1.0hr plane rental plus 1.0hr instructor (if schedule) is fairly common for a late fee.
Eh, if it's to compensate the instructor it should be what he actually gets paid for his time. If to compensate the school, it should be no more than their expected profit. More reasonable is a set amount that's non-trivial, like $50.

Isn't "Men's Salon" an oxymoron?

Nauga,
and a little guyliner

Not really. Probably just a typo of “saloon”

:)

Edited because I was too slow:

Dang… missed it by “this” much.

Yall I need some advice. I had a lesson scheduled this past Saturday, and Friday morning I woke up sick with a stomach virus. ...... Well today I was looking at my bank account, and noticed a $215 charge I wasn’t expecting. I texted him about it, and he said it was a no show fee from Saturday. I don’t think that is fair considering I was sick. What’s yalls thoughts and what should I do?
Cut out some of the ER drama, but you asked for advice, specifically, was the charge fair. Most poster said yes and pointed out the fact that the instructor and plane lost income for the time you had scheduled, since it wasn't available on what's likely a busy day. The fact you were sick doesn't change the school's lost income, but might be worth a polite conversation - I was pretty sick, forget to cancel and it will never happen again. Sounds like you did that.

The rancor getting directed at you is you still seem totally focused on your situation and seem to have no recognition of the other side of the coin. That's why you're getting push back.

Plus whatever go away pricing they want to add.

That wouldn’t make it unfair, nor make the OP a victim.
There's only a "victim" after the trap is sprung. Quick: within 90 seconds of reading this, tell me what clause 12.5 of the last click-wrap user agreement you consented to says.

Doesn't matter how bad it is; you agreed to it -- victim.

No, I’m only playing the victim card if I claim it to be unfair after the fact.

I'm coming to the conclusion that the only cross-country flight out of Stockholm Regional Airport is Part 103.

Totally fair. You kept other students from being able to utilize that aircraft and also the instructor due to your lack of communication. If you did that to me twice, I would suggest you find another instructor. Zero communication is not acceptable.

My girlfriend thought and texted my boss.
I’ve been working for decades and I’ve been sick enough that I couldn’t get myself to the ER more than once. And not once has my wife ever had to figure out that she needed to notify my work that I couldn’t make it, yet it still got done.

But that’s just me.

I've yet to be in a relationship where my girlfriend had my boss' number or vice versa.
That might be the first thing I'd address after I got out of the hospital.
I have been....but only because I'm self employed. Should us guys be asking for our girlfriends bosses number? That seems like a messy conversation if the boss is an attractive female.

seems odd to complain about something that's been resolved in your favor.
Probably wasn't resolved enough in their favor and decided to ask an AITA question here. The answer was a resounding "yes", and still couldn't let it go.

OP, best thing you can do is put this thread on ignore.
