    Nothing unusual about it.

Why didn't they release this 2wks ago ?

The investigation of his flight-sim setup was 'inconclusive'. Ghee whiz.

And you've never been involved with transport maintenance or Boeing maintenance plans.

Considerable attention is paid to aircraft after so many years and cycles as well as to areas of operations.

C & D inspections are fairly comprehensive and involve stripping paint and x-Ray of skins.

As long as it gets done for real, that works well.

Are you insinuating that MA is not doing the required maintenance or not following the Boeing maintenance plan?

Here is a look at MA MRO http://mae.malaysiaairlines.com/

Looks pretty impresive considering that some airlines don't even have an MRO of its own.

It takes more than A/P to maintain a B777:yes:

Whatever, cutting corners in maintenance is universal. This wouldn't be the first time an airplane unzipped due to corrosion. How sure are you of the maintenance programs on the planes you're flying?

Considering Singapore Aerospace (ST Engineering) and Lufthansa Technik do our maintenance services, I'm not to worried.

And as previously pointed out, MA has their own MRO.

Transport maintenance is worlds apart from GA type maintenance.

Thanks for the confirmation...I know enough about airline MRO that it seems unlikely a catastrophic failure due to corrosion could occur. I suppose the low number of cycles versus flight hours on the aircraft is typical for airliners like the 777, with its utilization on long routes.

Just a side note: I caught an interview of Mary Schiavo on some almost unknown talk show late-night on the radio the other night.

Within the first three sentences out of her pie hole, I wanted to kill her, myself, or the show host for having her on.

Wow what a snow job she's pulled off. The host ended with a nice pitch for her as a world expert and stuff that just made me want to throw things at my dashboard.

It really was that bad. The babbling brook of bull**** coming out of her was incredible.

She, of course, ended with exactly what one would expect: That all people everywhere on Earth (I'm not kidding!) should immediately demand all governments everywhere mandate immediately that all airlines track every skin cell of every person on board every flight.

Ok, I might be exaggerating a little.

But oh my GOD I wanted to strangle her just to get the dumb out of the gene pool.

Malaysia Flight 370: Signals 'consistent' with those from data recorders.

"Investigators searching for missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 have their "most promising" lead yet after a pinger locator detected signals consistent with those emitted by aircraft black boxes, the head of the Joint Agency Coordination Center said Monday.

The sounds were heard at a depth of 4,500 meters (about 14,764 feet), retired Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston said."

"We've got a visual indication on a screen, and we've also got an audible signal. And the audible signal sounds to me just like an emergency locator beacon,"

See? The hijacking theory is alive and well:
"The possibility that the plane was hijacked by someone who knew how to fly a commercial jet is still on the table. Authorities have also been investigating the plane's captain and co-pilot. And they haven't ruled out mechanical problems as a possible cause of the plane's diversion."
The mechanical problem theory needs to account for the known flight path over nav fixes. Autopilot trying to backtrack to previous undeleted entries? Maybe then trying to go the long way 'round the globe to one? :dunno: Without a reasonable explanation, the plane was being flown manually. A failed attempt to shadow another plane could account for the "why" of it.

You don't even need the entire black box....

Get on Ebay and buy a few of these for a couple of bucks...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Underwater_locator_beacon

Then go to the aircraft junkyard in AZ and buy some seats and trim( without part numbers on them) from a 777 for a few more bucks and pitch it in the water along the suggesting arc Inmarsat proposed and let the search last for years...;).....

Tiil the actual wreckage is found... I will consider anything to be fair game...

My take is the aussies have actually found the locator beacons from MH370, but just to stir the pot....

    So just to summarize:

First the plane was supposed to be here.

Then it was supposed to be there.

Then it became "clear" it is supposed to be in this location.

And a search at this location turned up no physical evidence.

Then someone heard two pings. But those pings could not be triangulated to any particular spot.

But the rush is on because the ELT's or black box battery is almost gone.

And they may not be able to find anything once the pings stop, and it could be lost forever.

    Does that summarize it?

That should give Coast to Coast AM about three years worth of subject matter.

Yeah, and a few times a year they get caught cheating on the maintenance and make the news, and sometimes the have accidents like Alaska Airlines.

It stabilized at its new altitude and kept going until it ran out of fuel. Not unusual for them to keep flying.

Might be the understatement of the year right there. Its shocking how little GA is required to do IMHO, but "reasonable care" gets everyone at the trial anyway.

What new information proves it wasn't either hijacked or an incapacitated flight crew with an errant autopilot?

What was your suggestion by the way? Oh yeah I forgot, "planes crash". Brilliant.

We can at least rule out the "shadowed another plane to Pakistan" theories.

I admit it wasn't a very creative theory. But in my own defense, it didn't take me long to come up with. :D

So, suppose it did go down where they think they've heard the pingers: what are the prevailing ocean currents and where would be the most likely place for stuff to wash ashore?

We can't rule it out as a possible attempt that failed. Yet, at least. I haven't seen what the scheduled departure times for the two flights were prior to March 8th, but if MH370 typically left early enough to beat SQ68 to it's departure corridor, maybe stealing the plane was the goal. Even terrorists have a second plan in case things don't pan out. Skirting radar and heading for the South Pole might have been it.

The fire/decompression theories need to account for the military's observed radar track around civilian radar coverage boundaries.

China could be behind a hijacking?? Hijackers land the plane, the recorders are pulled and dumped in the ocean to make it look like it crashed. Chinese ships just happen to pick up the signal with crude equipment. "look...here they are"

China is buying 777s by the dozen. Wouldn't it be.much easier to disappear one on a domestic repositioning flight ? The theories get dumber every day.

Even if they find the airplane there will still be dumb theories. People love them.
