    Hey guys,

What are the best and most secure mounts for a gopro for the exterior of an airplane? I plan on putting a gopro on the outside wingtip of my arrow as well as possibly on the bottom of the tail for some future videos. Anyone here have used any mounts on this aircraft type and have recommendations that work for you?

Think @SixPapaCharlie uses some tape. Maybe that was the one that blew off… :)

Haha! Love your vids man. I've seen the angle you use from the top of your tail on the 310, whatever mount that is must be pretty strong?

I would go with the Insta360 X2 instead of any GoPro.
Cannot help you with the mounts for a low wing. Have fun.

Thanks! I use the NFlight mounts. Think the link was already listed. Good luck on your filming and flying!

One of my friends with an experimental took one of the wing tip fairing screws out and put a longer one through a regular gopro helmet type mount and back into the same hole.

I just use the roll bar mount to clamp mine to the Navion boarding step.

I use a MyFlightPro tie down mount and when I want a wingtip mount, I remove the bolt that goes through the tie down and use one of the screws on the wing tip fairing to mount it.

Also I have switched to all metal mounts for external cameras. If you get on Amazon you can see metal cages for these. Those little plastic clips in the plastic camera cages will snap off when they get hot and cold and with the wind pressure.

You don't want to be the guy who loses one on the runway

I did use a sticky mount on the way one time and thankfully I had it tethered to the gas cap cuz as I was on downwind the tape let loose.

I’ve used the My Pilot Pro mount for tie-down rings. The thing is a solid example of craftsmanship. Well made, strong and beautiful to look at. Which made me immediately concerned about the integrity of the GoPro plastic case and and thumb screw brackets. Needless to say, I’ll be checking out some of those all metal mounts mentioned above. Thanks.

I recently bought the My Pilot Pro mount and it works well. You might want to adjust the angle by bending the bracket a little. It won't be so bad on your Arrow, but mounted to a Cessna it looks like this...

Rather than start bending on the original one I got a scrap piece of metal from work and bent it to a more ideal angle. Heck I'll probably just build a whole new one, all it is is an angled piece of aluminum, a cam lever which can be found pretty cheap at Amazon or Grainger, and some basic hardware. I'm not saying don't buy the My Pilot Pro one, but once you see how simple it is it's hard NOT to reverse engineer it :)

Is the Insta360 easier to use than a GoPro? I got a Hero8 for Christmas, and I'm quickly learning how much of a pain in the *** it is to actually get the video from it.

I'm sure it's great for people who know what they're doing, but I mean for an idiot, like me

I dont take videos. I take interval photos. Set it to take a photo every 5 sec, and forget about it. Once I get home, I plug in the microSD card into my Mac, copy all the photos, and open/edit them easily.

Yes, it's easy to reverse engineer. Mine is a DIY. But why bend metal? I just use a double arm to angle the way I want on both high wings and low wings. This is from a Mooney...

...but it works just as well on a 172.

^ Nice! I'll look into one of those.
