Glasair 3 or Lancair Legacy RG a better purchase?

This! Parts are much lower than for certified aircraft.
Sometimes, just depends. For the airframe, that’s probably true. But for the engine and avionics, not so much. The real savings is in doing the work yourself.

Have you sat in a Glas3?

Probably better than a Glasair 2 or 1, or a Lancair 320/360.
And probably better than a Shriner's July 4 go kart, but these are not relevant criteria. The key question remains; will the OP fit comfortably in the Glas3 for two hours + in his X country flights?

^^^^^ Indeed, I was trying to be charitable. That's basically the real question. At 69.69 inches with flip flops (giggity!) I've sat in a 3; I have seen no evidence it is any more accomodating than a II for a 6'3" occupant, especially if the ergonomics of the individual make them long torso vs long legged. I'm open to stand corrected as I haven't sat in a 2, only a 1, which is why I can say the 3 is more accomodating than a 1.

I do know for a fact he would not "fit" with any semblance of functional definition (eg for traveling/commuting) in either the G1 or Lanc235.

I stipulate the fact G-IIIs are in the vicinity of pricing as most clown-priced 4 seat spam cans of much much lower performance in present circumstances. So that one pencils out. But if the choice here is against an RV14/A? Then yeah forget it, I'm unironically suggesting eating the opportunity cost of fac-built ownership. RV14 pricing is the biggest phyrric victory I've seen since BasicMed let the walking MI-crowd roam free (I keed I keed). And this is coming from someone who rage quit the PA-28 over fac-built AD nonsense mind you.

Seriously, speed is overrated for the ranges being contemplated. Eating 400NM (the average between the stated legs) at 130-145 block vs 200-220 ain't gonna change your life. I do M.9 for an hour at a time and someone else has to fly my underwear; I'm telling you the T-6II smokes us on the overall balance for a XC cruiser at half the speed. 300nm is too short a leg for these speed deltas to matter, it's all hat no cattle.

As I said, there's penalties in this hobby for being in the 99th percentile of adult height. Can't win 'em all. Go date 6 foot women with thighs and rear bumper twice the diameter of a short but smiling man's smothered face :fingerwag: and take the height lottery W you privileged whiner. /sarc(ish)

300-500 nm X/C’s. Mostly solo with the occasional passenger.

150 kts, a 400 nm would be 2 hours 40 minutes
200 kts, a 400 nm trip would be 2 hours.

If it came down to it, would you rather spend 2 hours and 40 minutes in comfort, or 2 hours cramped and counting the minutes to getting out of the plane? This is a hobby that should only gets us places but we have fun getting there.

The Lancair seats are setup like a lazyboy. They can be very comfortable. My 235 seat bottom under the derriere was the belly composite panel with a 1.5 inch upholstered padded cushion on top. The way it was setup was very comfortable for hours on end. My 360 has more buildup under the upholstered padded cushion. The net result is the 360 doesn't have anymore headroom than my 235, but it does have better visibility over the nose on the ground. In the end though, I found my 235 more comfortable than my 360 despite being smaller.

Are you the same size as the OP?

I'm 6'0"
The OP wouldn't fit in my old 235 or my current 360. A 360 built with a seat like my 235 had might work for 6'3" but I believe he's right to look at a G3 or a Legacy.
