FlyDubai - cockpit altercation

Software can't do it. Still need someone on the flight deck to get the airplane onto the ILS at the right altitude, airspeed, configuration, and to setup the autoland. Then, at least with a 737, it isn't going to stay on the runway without help.

Airbus seems close
I've jumpseated many times in the A320-series. It isn't any closer than the Boeings I fly, and have flown. I don't know anything about the A350 or the 787. They may be closer.

But again, my post was directed at the comment that I quoted. Nothing more, nothing less.

Damn .. I was thinking just another nut job but this one has almost 9/11 vibes to it.

FlyDubai operates the 737. The cockpit door on 737s opens out, not in.

My comment was in the context of the quote to which I was replying.
“He and others tried to push open the cockpit door, but the pilot who had been stabbed was very close to it, so it was hard to open.”

If you're in the cabin and pushing on the door it will not open. It opens out, into the cabin. You have to pull.

This is true of all 737s because, if it opened in, the jumpseat would be unusable as it would block the door when deployed.

This is the airplane that I have been flying since early 2015.

Well, if so, gonna guess the perp doesn't care that Israel just reinstated the death penalty.

That I didn't know. I believe the Hannibal Directive was always in effect to kill Israeli troops if needed, but the execution of Israeli citizen hostages (or potential hostages) in order to avoid negotiations with terrorists is still, to the best of my knowledge, classified info.

What a horrowing ordeal that one was, absolutely brutal.
I had forgotten the planning he did in advance, and the relentless commitment to carrying it out. What heroic men in that crew.

I may have missed it …. What happened to the rudder? How exactly was that overstressed, and amazing they landed without a rudder—- and the entire vertical stabilizer didn’t depart!

Maybe we need an additional emergency squawk code. 7800 = knife fight in cockpit.
Probably easier to win the knife fight unarmed than it is to squawk 7800.

Impressive the aircraft didn’t come apart besides the visible rudder damage. Wonder what their Mach got up to.
Somewhere I saw 0.97. :o

and having two pilots saved a lot of lives in this case
Four pilots. FO was restrained and Captain was unconscious/disabled. Two pilots who were deadheading in the back came up and took control.

Maybe all pilots and crews need full body cavity searches for each flight now.
Would those searches be performed by a doctor, or a veterinarian?

There’s just one flaw in that checklist.
Too difficult to open DV window at altitude and/or keep oneself in the cockpit while disposing of the first officer via that method?

I hope the pilot recovers fully and has a great career in front of him.
I am happy that the investigation will be done by the Saudi's.
I want to start the rumor that this happened over an argument of "ketchup vs mustard" on a hotdog.
This never would have happened if the copilot had to watch an annual anti-violence in the workplace video like I do, which mentions that you are not supposed to stab your co-workers.

How do you fly without a rudder?

Mustard, and with a Coke. Period. Taught in primary training in the Midwest USA.
