My chiropractor filled out my basic med before, but I can't seem to put my hands on it again, so I asked if she could do it again even tho it's not due until next year. She declined, mostly because of the "anus" line on the checklist. Has the form changed in the past 3 years? Weird, I've never had my AME examine my anus, for any of my second or third class medicals in the past 30 years!! What's going on here? Have I gotten the wrong CMEC form??

The basic med checkoffs are the same as the AME side of the old 8500-8 turned into MedExpress. My doctor notes that all pilots are a-holes and just checks that box.
Not exactly. There’s a line on the BasicMed exam that says something like “anus-external only.” I’ve done BasicMed exams, but I’ve never looked at a pooper for one.

No, it is exactly the same between the basicmed CMEC and the old physician's side of the 8500-8. Both say

Anus (not including digital examination):

A comprehensive examination doesn't mean a physical examination. The physician can inquire or assess based on history. Ultimately it's the physician's clinical judgment, as is everything on the list. For some reason this is the most asked item on the checklist.

Is a chiropractor classsified as a physician in your state?

If not digital, then analog, right?
I don't understand why that line exists; checking the prostate would actually make a little sense (my old AME offered that for free, as he had had PCa).

There was time when they were mandatory for Class II’s. Some of the Doc’s I went to offered them also.

In addition, the AME Guide talks about answering based on history. I sent a copy of that one to my PCP before my first BasicMed exam.

I've been getting Class II and Class I since the late '70's. When was this?
I started getting them in 1971. It was around mid/late 80’s when they stopped doing them if I recall correctly. I was getting Class II’s because I was a Controller. They wouldn’t actually give you the Certificate unless you were also a pilot and requested it. Sounds like maybe it was something they just wanted for Controllers. Why I can’t imagine.

My docs when doing Basic Med simply note "deferred" on Anus and G-U system.

It's just so impressive when the doctor is able to do his anus inspection with both hands on your hips. Just really excellent dexterity.

It was added in the late eighties I believe, to clarify that a prostate check wasn't required. I remember my old AME pointing out that it wasn't required anymore. This happened before Medexpress came about..

Kinda towards a nothing burger. I’m still having flashbacks to a prostrate biopsy a year ago. It’s a form of medieval torture for those not versed.

Not sure why that's funny. Also not sure why we're having this discussion for the umpteenth time. I thought we closed the hole in this argument in one of the many prior discussions.
I think it is the combination of a chiropractor doing a prostate adjustment was the funny part.

And we've had multiple threads here on the subject.

I think it's the most-asked item on the checklist for two simple reasons
- BasicMed is the first time most pilots have looked at the physician side of the an FAA medical checklist; they never had it done by their AME and don't know it's been there like forever.
- It's great fodder for middle school level humor.

Anal log is definitely an encumbrance to a proper prostate exam.
