    Log book error

So a student pilot friend of mine might have recorded the wrong number of landings on one particular day. The CFI said there were X landings and then when my friend went back to flightaware it was clear to my friend that the number of landings were overstated. (FYI - daytime VFR). Should my...

Slow flight in a Pipistrel Alpha Trainer

Ground speed was 6.7kts. We were practicing slow flight. Vso is 37kts. Turns around a point (turning left) were fun with the wind pushing me, at one point I had to crab right in order to keep from getting pushed into my circle. I love power-off stalls....power-on still gives me some pucker...

    Close to solo question

I have about 12 hours and things are going well. I'm handling all phases of flight with little to no intervention from my CFI. He told me to knock out my written and get my iacra number. I've been kicking around the choice between sport pilot and private. I've studied for both and been scoring...

    Cold weather operations rotax 912

I went flying on yesterday and the OAT was 28 degrees fahrenheit. It took over 20 minutes on the ramp to get the oil temp to the POH minimum of 120 degrees. We were varying the rpm to try to get heat in the engine. Are there any magic RPMs that cold weather rotax fliers use? Luckily I had the...

    Volunteer hours

My company pays me 8 hours a year to do volunteer work for any not-for-profit. But I imagine I cannot use those hours to volunteer for pilotsnpaws. I'm still a student but should be done in 2024,where I get my next 8 volunteer hours.

    Substitute CFI

I'm trying to take lessons at least 1 or 2 times a week, but my CFI is on a well deserved vacation. My question is it OK or bad form to have another CFI at the same school fill in one week so I don't go 2 weeks without flying? For reference, not that it matters... I'm a 53 year old student...

Dumb student pilot question Rudder related

So when you let off the rudder pedals in the air are they supposed to self center or do they stay where you last had them? I know.... I only have 3.7 loggable hours, each in a different plane... So I will certainly have very basic questions.

    When to get renters insurance

Background: I'm an 53 year old student pilot with only 2.8 hours, but I've arranged my schedule so I can start to fly 3x a week. Question: When should I buy renters insurance? Before solo? As soon as I started taking lessons?

    Take Action! MOSAIC comment period.

There are a some super intelligent folks here that can better convey why limiting to 1 pax or 54 knot VS1 is too limited. Can we get someone to eloquently write a letter so we all can speak with one voice to the FAA? My gun club has a lawyer that drafts letters for members to submit to...

    3rd class Urine test

Specifically what are they testing for with the urine sample on the 3rd class med? What are the acceptable limits? Can I get a pre-test before the actual exam? Thanks in advance. Funny I don't have anxiety except for thinking I might never ever be able to fly again if I check the wrong box...

    Squawk Discrete?

OK as I warned when I joined I'm a student pilot and not a flying god, so prepare for dumb questions. I heard ATC say "Squawk Discrete" to another airplane, what does that mean? (my stupid transponder only has 0-7 and 4 digits so no way I could put DISCRETE in the box) hehe I made a pilot joke...

    Dumb student question

This is a Can not a Should question: Assuming I have reception or a Sat phone, can I talk on my cell phone while PIC? A non-pilot asked me this and I had no idea. If you have the specific FAR/AIM section that would be great. Thank you in advanced.

    Mock x country planning question

During this downtime I'm just researching some destinations i would like to go to and noticed that bar harbor Maine has rw17/35 but in the airport notes it says magnetic is 33. When do they repaint and re-label the rw? I could just imagine myself looking at my compass and the rw markings when...

    A decorum question

I was taking flight lessons at an airport that was 30 miles from my house but 6 miles from my office. My job was flexible enough to allow me to take a 2.5 hour lunch and go flying. Since COVID we have moved to a remote model and I don't see us going back to a fully staffed central location for...

    King Schools ROCK!!

Ok so I spent about 500 on the sport pilot school at King Schools just to find out that I can indeed pass my 3rd class med inspite of a kidney stone 9 years ago. Anyway i called King Schools and they switched me over to the private pilot school free of charge. Love them guys! Martha a John you...

    Arion lightning pilots

I spoke to a couple of Arion Lightning pilots and they say that it is a docile plane that likes to fly. Just manage the speed at landing and it is easy to fly. Anyone else have seat time in an Arion Lightning? What are your thoughts?
