    Call For Price

My daily ritual is to peruse Barnstormers for cool planes I probably can’t afford. I really enjoy looking at the low SMOH, leather seats and a great panel, and imagining pulling the trigger. Then I notice it says call for price. Van Bortel here in DFW does it a lot. It’s really a buzz...

    182 Nosewheel Upgrade

I was watching some of Bryan’s videos on YouTube and really enjoyed them. Particularly liked the one on the walk around pre-flight check. He showed using a penny to check tire tread and I was wondering if that’s what I should use for my new nose wheels. Maybe a larger coin?

    ForeFlight-Add a fuel Stop

I'm planning a long cross country. In flightplan im getting warning that says maximum fuel exceeded by 23 gallons. I would like to plan and enter a fuel stop but can’t figure out how to add fuel. Is there some trick I’m missing? Or do you just have to wait until you arrive at that location...

    Wheelpant Repair 3D Print?

I’m wondering if anyone has tried 3D printing the interior stiffeners for wheel pants. There are several plastic type parts and a few metal as well that are broken on mine. Not sure if it would be tough enough or rigid enough to hold up. I’ve been looking online at salvage too. For a C 182 J

    Ft Worth Aviation Museum

Over the Holiday weekend we took in the Ft Worth Air Museum near Meacham airport. It is a great museum with a bunch of airplanes outside and great exhibits inside spanning WWI thru present. We were very impressed with the volunteers who gave us a great walking tour with details that could...

    CTAF Frequencies

I fly in the DFW area and notice on local frequencies like 122.8, 122.9, 123 etc you hear a lot of different airport calls. My question is why don’t they have different numbers for airports within 40 miles or so? Are there not enough possible frequencies? Or is that just unusual bleed over...

TGIFS Thank God its Football Season

Just curious who is everyone's favorite football team. I am assuming the majority of folks on this site are Cowboy fans since it seems like a very intelligent group of folks frequent this site. But just wanted to do a quick poll to confirm. Go Cowboys. And enjoy the season.

    ForeFlight Training

I'm wondering what are some of best sources for ForeFlight training and tips. I've been looking on YouTube but wondering if anyone has some favorite sites or resources. I've been using it for a year or so and learning as I go. But I am guessing there is a lot more tricks and tips I could use...

    Auto Scan

I was making a long xc drive in my truck - 7 hours - wishing I was flying instead. And noticed I was doing a scan of my instruments as though flying. Just not enough to scan though fuel-speed-oil-temp. Made me laugh to myself when I realized what I was subconsciously doing. :D Guess I need...

    Robins AFB Museum

We visited the Robins AFB museum this weekend. Great collection of airplanes and all sorts of aviation related items from WW2 Korean and Vietnam eras. Able to get up close and marvel at the engineering of some huge planes. If you are near there (Macon Georgia) definitely worth the trip...

    Hawaii Flight

Flew while on vacation in Kauai Hawaii. Great experience to see the sites from the air. Went with Wings over Kauai- Bruce the owner was really knowledgeable of all the sites. It was my wife and my first trip there and just awesome. Also helps with selling her on all the time I'm spending on...

    American Ulysses

With the low ceilings and cold weather I've gotten back to reading. This is a great book about a great man and leader. Grant seems Somewhat overshadowed in History but amazing story of his rise from humble start. What a great leader for that time.

    Tour of Ft Worth ARTCC

Just went on a tour of Ft Worth Center. My instructor arranged a group tour. That was really helpful for me as I am working on my IFR training. Helps me now picture what is going around me in airspace as I'm flying and taking with controllers. They did a presentation too and went over a lot...

    Fire Bottle in engine compartment

I've read a few posts and older articles about having some sort of breakable bottle in engine compartment that can be activated in case of fire in engine. Are those still used and what are thoughts on that. Seems like a good idea. I know there is extinguisher in cabin. But seems like if in...

    License to Learn

When I passed my Private Pilot check ride last December the DPE said this is really more of a license to learn. I know most of you have probably heard that before. I have been continuing my learning with my instructor and reading and watching as much as I can since then. Also read the book...

    Passed my PPL checkride

I made it. About 6 months of studying and flying and just passed. Feels great. I have been basking in the great feeling for a couple weeks. Now I just started studying for IFR. I'm using the King School videos and really like it. Able to re watch videos and do practice questions. Also...
