    Garmin Pilot (iOS) Topo question

Does anyone know of a way to improve the topo map (VFR) detail and fesolution? I used to buy a $100 SD card upgrade to load into Garmin panel GPS units and it had excellent detail. The Pilot app is very anemic by comparison. Is there a solution to close the gap?

    Squeezing a #5 dzus grommet

Anyone have a secret for how to do it without the "official" tool set? The tools are on backorder and my mechanic is out of town. I'm wondering if a simple tarp grommet tool will work in a pinch.

Fun With Batteries (Best Tug A3)

Left it on for a week. Batteries are too dead to initiate a charge with the supplied charger. Off with the shroud to find two cheap sealed lead-acid batteries in there. One tests at at 4v, one at 0v. The 4v one will initiate a charge on my shop smart charger. I got it up to 6v and jumped it to...

    MP Sensor Sticking

My G3X Touch appears to have a sluggish sensor. It likes to sit at 24.7 after reducing throttle below that. I’ve had sticking round MP instruments but was caught by surprise by this one. $90 for a new sensor so not the end of the world. Has anyone else had a glass panel MP sensor fail? I’ve...

    My New Addition

Not another airplane, a Kegerator. My first, and I’m liking it. I have a handful of excellent local craft brewers nearby and Alaska law limits breweries to 5 gallon kegs for retail sale, so I won’t get tired of what I have. Hangars aren’t just for airplanes!

    iPad Mini Question

Are the newest generation Mini screens better with polarized glass than my Mini 4? I can see my iPhone just fine with sunglasses on but the Mini disappears with my current scrip sunglasses on. I presume the newest iPads use a screen similar to the newest iPhones. Is that correct?

    Dawn Platinum trigger dish soap

Beat aircraft degreaser EVER. And it works great on oil spots on the ramp, too. Spare me the corrosion scare tactics. It works so fast I can spend more time rinsing. Loving it!

Nothing significant to report but changed my spark plugs to new Champion massives from old same. Runs like a top. Cruises faster than before. Noticeably faster. :) :) :)

    Ferry Permits 2021

Anyone heard that ferry permits are no longer being issued? Ya, me too. That's incorrect info. I filed the new electronic request for a special flight permit at about 2:00 today and by 4:00 I had an email from FSDO saying I need to add a copy of a logbook entry stating I didn’t see that...

    Hip Replacement

I didn’t see this coming. Looking for pireps. Not interested in what the FAA thinks, just want to know how long it took others to get back into the pilot seat after hip replacement. I know recovery time varies but I’m curious what others have experienced. Thanks.

    ADS-B question

If an E-AB airplane has ADS-B capable equipment but never did a validation flight does it have ADS-B by interpretation of the regs? What would the minimum be to classify ADS-B as removed for the aircraft?

    Handy tool fire wiring

Especially those little terminal blocks on Pmags! I’d never heard of these tools before last week. They’re inexpensive and available from lots of sources. I bought a similar kit on Prime for under $30. Cleaning up my Pmags will be worth that easily. Fire wiring? Auto spell got me!

    Interesting new oil change product

He says blowing air not only empties the filter but also the oil cooler. If I can move the oil out of my dual coolers during an oil change I'll be pleased. I ordered one to try. Under $50, why not? I like the other items I've bought from Anti Splat...

    Radio noise.... LED lights...

Just had an interesting experience. Replaced 54 T-5 fluorescent tubes With LEDs. Love the improved light and half the energy consumption. Next project was to install a Tosten grip on the stick. Cool product but I struggled with the PTT for an hour. Tons of radio noise. It didn't make sense. I...
