2009 6Y9 Attendee List

My new tent and sleeping bag arrive tomorrow. :D

I'm trying to talk another pilot friend into tagging along.

If our friend Leah cannot make it, I wish you all the best of luck in assembling shelter. ;)

Is it like my new tent where the directions are thankfully sewn to the bag?

But are the directions really gonna be helpful after a bunch of Crown?????

Well, seeing as I showed up last year having no idea how to assemble my tent and Rachel helped me out, I'm sure that someone will help Liz out. :)

Does this mean you'll be there? Maybe I'm blind, but I didn't see you on the list.

Phooey, I think I'm out. Ted's schedule doesn't work (though he gave it a valiant try) and I'm too broke to do it by myself. Can't seem to find anyone to split costs. Woe is me. Have fun.

I have every confidence that I'll make a hash of it but have a blast in the process. :goofy:
In fact, before I'd read the additions to this thread, I'd already decided to NOT do a practice run in the privacy of my own backyard. It's just more fun this way - public embarrassment in front of strangers.

Get to 9D9 on Friday park in my hangar, you can ride up with me. But you'll have to wear maize and blue in lieu of splitting fuel. :D

Now that's just plain mean, but I like it!

We're all friends. If you don't believe that before we meet and get to shake hands, you will by the time the weekend's through. :)

I think I'm gonna make it! :goofy:

Well, I'll probably tag along with Pete. And I'll try to remember my tent poles, unless someone's bringing a nice RV. Now, I just need to figure out how to stay warm at night.

That's what I love about aviation.
I'm looking forward to meeting all the friends I haven't met yet, and even the ones I have. ;)

Crown........and a sleeping bag rated to 0ºF.

Looks like I'm back in (wx permitting) and I get to use my down sleeping bag for the first time in ages.

I go with the 0ºF bags because if you get too warm, you can always unzip and cool off. If you're already off the bottom side of the thermoscale, getting warmed back up is difficult.

The UP like the rest of Michigan has two seasons.

Winter and Construction.

Of course construction usually run s well into Winter especially in the UP where Winter starts in late August.

You all know that Labor Day snow is not unheard of. Especially a late Labor day like this year, Eh.

But another shot of Crown and what's a little snow.:wineglass:

I'm a strong maybe! Travel comittments have opened up. Might head up to Washington Island for that weekend, just need to talk wife and daughter into a stop at Saginaw Michigan!

We'd just stop in early in the afternoon and leave before dark. Hope to see everyone there!

Sidnaw, Michigan!!!

Saginaw is near Flint.

I could not get the table to work either, so:

Weather permitting ...Patrick Smith +1 big person & 2 moderate sized ones.....camping (am I too old for this?).....up early Saturday and out on Sunday. Home field is 10C. Cherokee N9794J. You will recognize it by the ugly landing I am sure to make with the audience I am likely to have........

Well, they might get confused... I am a low-wing who will likely make a similarly crap-tastic landing. (Biggest difference is that I expect to be there on Friday.)

So are we going to be having a contest for who can make the crappiest landing? Last year it was a toss-up between Chris's first, second, and third landings in the 182RG. Note that all three landings were on the same approach. ;)

What can I say - I'm am an 'operations' guy. I'm all about efficiency. I was just making sure to get my currency taken care of without having to deal with those pesky patterns. ;)

Heh, I'd probably manage to screw up with a greaser. B)

I'm going up early for set up, the biggest benefit is no audience:yes:.
I land there more than anyone and it seems the harder I try to do a "pretty " landing the worse it is. So I'm just going to pound it in.
Everyone remember keep it light,we got tree's at both ends, we don't want any T.O.'s or landings with that pine fresh scent.
Also everybody pray for good weather.

I'm figuring I'll just do the Brick 28 approach. Flaps/gear/props... over the trees, chop the power. Glide ratio of a Steinway has its advantages. ;)

One thing to point out to newcomers - if you are landing to the west, there is a slight hump in the runway just about the point where you would lower the nose wheel (or at least where I usually lower the nosewheel in the RV). If you are on the ground and still have some excess airspeed, the hump can put you back in the air for a short bit. I'm guessing by that point, you would be too low and slow to safely do a go-around, so just let it settle back onto the ground and you should have plenty of room to get stopped without even having to ride the brakes hard.

It's not difficult to deal with, it's just something that might catch you off-guard if you're not used to landing on grass strips.

You can somewhat see it cause me to hop a bit right around 0:20 in this video:

Y'all have fun and be safe now, y'hear?

:(

Y'all best be joining us next year, y'hear?

Sorry you two won't be able to make it, Nick. Any cheap last minute flights to PHL? You could hitch a ride if you made it that far.

The main issue is a lack of vacation time now. Unfortunately, my employer doesn't offer Bereavement leave, so I had to waste PTO to go to my grandfather's funeral.

Hey - at least Labor Day isn't one of the holidays that ARCA has decided we don't need to celebrate in economic hard times .

I'd forgotten about the lack of vacation time, which is no good. Hopefully you'll be able to make it next year!

Hmmm it'll be fun to see who can drop faster on final. You or Barb :D
