What did you do today?

The kids had "future career day" at school today where they dress up like a job they want to have. John decided he wanted to dress up as a pilot. I told him he needed a tie. The sunglasses were his idea. I scanned my badge this morning, put his picture and name on it, and replaced "T-Hangar tenant" with "Totally a Real Pilot", then printed it on cardstock. Anyway, thought you all might get a kick out of it:

But where’s the martini? And the hot looking babe on his arm?

and the watch the size of a dinner plate...

But where’s the martini? And the hot looking babe on his arm?
This morning he was leaning against the counter drinking a cup of milk, looking exactly like every corporate pilot I've ever seen lounging around an FBO, swilling coffee & waiting on passengers.

Get him in the front seat of a small single and start training him, he’s old enough to start learning to fly by the instruments if he can’t see over the dash… kids learn things quick and learning instrument flight first should make him an ace when he is big enough to actually see out the windshield :). (You might have to do the rudder work if his feet can’t reach, but verbalize it when you do..). He might not be able to log the hours, but he can be ready to just perform minimal required hours when he is old enough to…

Well, it's been an interesting day. Mom and baby are still doing quite well.

This is a family tale that will be told and re-told for generations to come.

And poor @SkyChaser has to take care of them both. Tough gal!

And the argument over who was in more pain!
If he has any sense at all there won't be an argument. Trying to tell a woman that you have EVER been in more pain than her, even when it's her hangnail versus your hand getting fed into a wood chipper, does not end well.

is it time to insert the joke (?) about childbirth pain vs kicking a man in the, um, well, you can figure it out.

A husband and wife are debating which hurts more: childbirth or getting kicked in the groin.

The wife says, "Childbirth is obviously more painful, it’s delivering a human through a tiny opening!"

The husband shakes his head and says, "No way, getting kicked in the groin is worse. You never hear a guy say, 'You know, I think I’d like to do that again next year!'"

Did some aluminum fabrication. Guy wants a pair of swing-out doors with windows to be mounted just forward of the (opaque) ramp door on his snowmobile trailer, so it can be used as a heated hangout/viewing box during his kids' races.

He's going to let me use his '57 172 for CFI training if I can pull this off. Better bring my A game.

Finally got this project wrapped up last night.

@Jim K needs to get his CFI certificate while he’s lounging around doing nothing else over the winter. ;)

Formed a mortar bed for a tile shower I've been building. Man, that sucked. One day, I want to be able to afford to pay professionals to do jobs like this.

Good tradesmen deserve their wage (if not more) a lot of things seem “easy” until you actually are the guy doing it…

"Babe... You wouldn't BELIEVE how much this hurts! I guarantee you've never felt anything like it!"

I assume the see-saw of city driving wears them differently, but I dunno. I thought this was a known thing. We're on EV 3 and 4, and they have ALL worn the rear tires appx twice as fast as the fronts. Our Leaf did it too, although dramatically less so (weaker regen)
are the tires different for the EVs? like softness, stickiness? would that explain faster wear rate?

Nothing to do with regenerative braking. The tire can't tell whether the braking is coming from regen or just plain old brake pads.

EVs do tend to be heavier and have a lot more torque, though. That's where the extra wear comes from. A good EV tire will have low rolling resistance (this can make a noticeable difference in range), low noise, and be able to handle that weight and torque.

It's doubly irritating when they're staggered so you can't rotate the tires across axles. both i3s and my current do this :/
That's for sure. And the i3 was by far the worst car I've ever had in snow, so you need a second set of tires for it for winter anyway.

Just curious, a lot more torque than what.??
Gas engines that are in a normal operating range. Gas engines generally have peak torque into the several thousand RPM range; an EV basically has full torque from zero RPM. This is a large part of why people drive EVs, as the performance is really fun, but it also really eats up tires.

Yes, plenty of combustion engines can have peak torque higher than plenty of EVs, but it's about how you can actually get it to the tires that matters in terms of tire wear.

First day back at work at the Steamboat Ticket Office. Beyond the usual, “Is this where I get my Ikon Pass, Lift ticket, Comp Ticket etc, etc, etc?” Or “Where is the ……..”, one of the partners, Nokian Tires. has installed a free claw machine to amuse the kids while parents or whoever pick up tickets/passes.

I pass out tokens to the kids as an “extra duty as assigned” and was stunned to see one 4-5 year old actually extract a prize, a collapsing water bottle.

Just another skill set I have developed at an advanced age. Staving off Dementia one step at a time.

Flew a lifeline trip to Topeka. Had a shrimp po' boy at the restaurant in the fbo building. It was yummy.

Saw this...turbine converted Duke. Pilot said there was maybe 25 of them. Presumably makes it less of a pig. I think id look cool in it. The turbines should cure the Duke's main problem... right?

Flew over solid layer all the way home. It kept getting closer to my altitude, and with the sun at my back, I got some really nice halo effects.

Was -18C, but with the sun, the heater kept up. When I had to descend under it was when it got cold. It was pretty thin by the time I got back to cmi. Anyway, fun day. 5.4 on the Hobbs.....I could've been in Florida.....

The fact that it looks like a two-row corn picker, the fact that it sniffs its way to the runway, or the fact that it uses every foot of runway regardless of how much is available? ;)

I think the problem was too-stubby props, so "nah" :)

I do like those royal turbine dukes, but... meh. They should've called them Jack Airs :D

The Duke is probably the sexiest looking piston twin there is, except from the angle you captured it from. ;)

The Royal Duke turbine conversion as seen above is cool... But apparently it can be done without changing out the cowls, and then it looks... Much less cool.

The other issue with the Duke is that it's not as aerodynamic as it would first appear. Rumor is that Beech kind of intentionally made it a bit of a pig to avoid cutting into King Air sales.

And looking at some related "stuff" - Boy, the 70s must have been cool. In 1978 you could go to a Beech dealer and buy from a very complete line of airplanes:

19 Musketeer Sport
C23 Sundowner
C24R Sierra
F33A Bonanza
F33C Aerobatic Bonanza
V35B Bonanza
A36 Bonanza
76 Duchess
E55 Baron
58 Baron
58TC Turbo Baron
58P Pressurized Baron
60 Duke
B80 Queen Air
C90 King Air
E90 King Air
A100 King Air
B100 King Air
200 Super King Air
99 Airliner

Twenty models for sale, and a model for every little niche in the market! :o

Called my cousins husband to get my sister's car to the body shop.

Friday (before drinking) I attempted to do a hockey stop and slide on the driveway that had a fresh layer of snow. Instead I toe picked and went face first into the rear door.

But it's ok. My shoulder is only slightly ****ed.

I would have done it myself, with a heat gun and the toilet plunger from the bathroom. It worked on my wife's car when someone rear ended her and then sped away to avoid consequences.

But, her car is 18 years old and we don't care if it doesn't look perfect.

Had surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff. Gonna be a few months before I can hand prop my Parrakeet...

Two shooting friends of mine had that done. Healing took a long time, but eventually they got back to 100%. Based on their experiences I'd suggest laying off the 45 for a few months, too. And kidding aside, I think it took them about a year.
