What did you do today?

When the temp in C and F is about the same number, it's too damn cold.

Today I flew 2 practice ILS approaches, rented a VW for the first time, and drove a mini-van for the first time. Naturally, with the biggest snow of the year tomorrow my SUV is in the shop. The VW isn't bad, the adaptive cruise is actually pretty nice, not twitchy.

Yeah, -24 windchill in Milwaukee this morning. This place sucks. Will be at the Baird Center all day.
Dang, sorry I didn't see this until now. I had to look up what the Baird Center was - Jeez, I still remember it as the Midwest Express Center which has obviously been a minute.

Today was NOT a great day to be outside.

We survived but it was a cold walk. I wish the skyway was open on the weekends. We have more volleyball today and then we can head home....in the snow this time.

Turned the geothermal off and turned the propane boiler on.

I mean WITAF Ameren? This is cents/kWh tomorrow:

That’s insane. I pay $0.12/kWh for the first 1000 per month then $0.10/kWh after that with a separate meter for heating/cooling that bills at $0.07/kWh. I still think my bills are bad, I can’t imagine rates that high.

I went running on the Riverwalk along the Chattahoochee, three people were taking a ride in a bass boat. It was about 45 degrees and overcast. Definitely not something I'd have enjoyed.

I'm supposed to fish in a tournament on the 31st. It is supposed to be low 12°F and a high of 30°F. I was really hoping the other guy was going to back out, but he just keeps talking like it's going to be the greatest day ever, so I guess I'll be out there.

I'm on hourly pricing (obviously), largely because we have a plug in hybrid, and can charge it at night for almost free....or at least we could. Over the last year power bills have basically doubled. I think the standard flat rate is just a little higher than what you're paying. These spikes on hot/cold days have gotten outrageous. I'm about ready to switch back to the flat rate plan. I kind of liked the game of shifting power use to cheaper times, but stuff like this just makes it impossible to win.

They recently introduced a program specifically for electric vehicles where they give you a credit for power used from 2300-0700. Thinking that might be the better deal.

The screenshot of the temps in Canada was in Fahrenheit. Just FYI.

Oh definitely. It's bad in Texas right now, but nothing compared to the frozen tundra I used to live in.

When I was growing up there was a couple across the section the same way, they wintered in iowa and summered in northern alaska..

Went to church, sang on the praise team first service, in the choir second service.

Then did a bodyweight workout and then a 3mi walk in 40* pouring rain.

Shower and then the championship football games.

Shoveled 12" of snow before global warming changed it to rain.

Went to the pool, had the place to myself. Moved over to the hot tub, still had the place to myself. Watched the snow whirl around outside while relaxing in said tub. Had to pay yet another speed cam ticket, but besides that, I can think of many worse ways to spend the day.

It's always so much fun to greet a new visitor at church. "Welcome! Glad you came this morning. Did you bring your own snake, or would you like to borrow mine?"
Does your face stop stinging from your wife slapping you before the next Sunday? ;)

Got tomorrow's rates. Little better, with the exception of 6-8AM. Grok calculated for me that the boiler/ geothermal breakeven is around 25 cents/ kWh at the price of my last load of propane. Of course, I'm sure the propane price is doing the same thing as electricity, but i should be able to make it through until it warms up a bit.

It also calculated that the cost of generating my own power using my propane standby generator should be around 50 cents/ kWh. Strongly considering shutting off the main breaker in the morning and letting it run. Probably needs the exercise anyway. Side benefit is that it's capable of running all the heat/refrigeration/ water systems, but only about half the lights, so I won't have to be chasing the kids around shutting them off like I have been the last couple days.

Forecast temps day of the tournament have been lowered to a high of 26°f and a low of 6°f, with winds gusting to 16 mph and snow showers. He still has not backed out. Name of the tournament is The Icebowl. Appropriate.

Finished shoveling the driveway and sidewalk… light snow, easy to shovel, but I think I’ve got a touch of what’s put my wife under for the last 4 days.
