What did you do today?

Better choice, in my view, is to get a regular TV and use it as a display for some sort of external streaming device, like Roku.
Except Roku is leading (or nearly so) the pack in monetizing your viewing of other content. If you want to interrupt all the cross tracking, Apple TV is likely the best choice, plus a pi-hole for good measure. Mind you, this doesn’t stop Netflix, et al from monetizing your direct data.

Over the last 3 days been flying a bit (in back) - 4 airlines, including various subsidiaries, 8 flights, all 4 continental time zones, hotels on opposite coasts, and boy my arms are tired.

It's true. But at least my Roku doesn't have a camera in it and I know how to disable the microphone.

Back to what *I* did today, I made meatballs:

I'll never get points for uniformity or presentation, but they're tasty.

Went to sleep Saturday night and woke up Monday morning.

ETA: also got a pair of badass Hello Kitty slippers.

Nauga,
Who says, “Konichiwaaaaaa”

Yup. Gonna fly airplanes that are older, but bigger and faster.

Drove to cheesehead land. I don't oppose this area, just their semi-professional football team.
That would be our *division leading* football team. :p

That said, I was more impressed with the Bears last night than I have been in a loooooooong time. I think you're gonna give us some trouble over the next few years. Also, the fact that one loss took you from 1st seed to 7th shows how competitive the NFC is this year. And with four games left, the only team in the North that can't win the division is Minnesota.

Car started vibrating terribly after starting it up late last night at the grocery store :( Had it towed from the lot to the mechanic today. No idea what's wrong.
... Then I watched this French woman have an epic meltdown in the car rental place because they gave her the Camry she reserved and not an upgraded SUV that she actually wanted.
Then, as the customer behind her, I got handed the keys to an SUV since that's what I booked and she didn't like that one bit.
It reminded me that it's a good thing I don't have a business that deals with the general public, cuz I'd eject those turds so fast...

Surprised they missed the chance for the old upgrade scam. Avis in Atlanta always does that. It is their speciality.

Flew a few approaches yesterday to refresh my instrument currency, then canceled commercial training with my CFI today due to IFR conditions. One of our route drivers called while I was plowing snow this morning, informed me an outside drive tire on the box truck had come off the bead and shredded the sidewall. It's been cold, so I'm guessing he skipped a basic pretrip walkaround and didn't notice an underinflated tire.

About five hours later, he's still waiting for the roadside service guy to arrive on the scene. I should have just driven down there with a bottle jack and a torque multiplier and did it myself.

It's why I absolutely hate when homeowners stop in wanting custom railings. They don't know what they want. They'll want things quoted 3 different ways. Then when they get the quote back lose their mind and want something different entirely.

I’m sorry.

Just kidding, I have no experience with them. :)

I have exactly one hour of jet time, thanks to a right-place-right-time-right-ratings experience back in 2010.

That was also in a Hawker 800(A) that I'm pretty sure is running drugs these days - I used to track it on FlightAware, and on its last flight it flew down into central South America and (poof!) disappeared forever.

Crazy enough, I never made a thread about that experience here on PoA. I talked about it on the podcast, but I think those have been lost to the ages unless anyone still has copies they can share with me... :(

Haha... funny you should mention that. My darling wife has, for some inexplicable reason, fixated on replacing the turned wood balusters on the staircase in our house with wrought iron. Naturally I can't just replace them; the spacing wouldn't meet building code. So I'll have to remove the old balusters, plug all of the holes in the railing (and flush cut, sand, and finish them), sand and refinish the stair tread ends where the old balusters come off, then drill all new holes for the new balusters. Lucky me. Oh, and cut all of the wrought iron balusters to length, that will be fun. I'm sure I'll encounter some oddity along the way that throws a wrench in the works.

I look on the bright side, at least I don't have to replace the railing and posts too.

Edit: Or so I thought. Now it's railings, treads and risers, too. Not the posts though.

Hey, just think of how much time she just saved you!

See what I mean?! Already changing her mind!

Well, some of it is my fault. If I’m going to spend the time and money replacing the balusters, I’m going to fix some things that I never have liked about that staircase. Why have super nice balusters on a staircase I’ve always thought was done poorly to begin with?

These things do tend to snowball… I’ll end up ripping out and replacing most of it but in the end it will look really good, I’ll be happy with it, and she’ll be happy with it.

I sipped coffee and enjoyed the quiet, snowy morning until my car mechanic called and told me my car needs a new camshaft

Yesterday, I blanched almonds in preparation for making Almond Paste. Tis the season to BAKE!
(I also wrote about 2000 words).

It's been rainy, windy, dark and gloomy for many, many days up here in the far-left upper corner of the contiguous 48.
The forecast is the same until February.

Chewed on my fingernails (just kidding that's fking gross!) waiting to hear about the annual inspection results and estimate from a new to me shop this year. This after having done owner assisted annuals for 20 years. Deep down I'm happy to have a new set of eyes on the bird but your thoughts and prayers are appreciated :)

Whoever said ''the customer is always right'' never owned a business.

laundered some money.

I guess now those ones are clean

Customers may not always be right, but they’re always customers, and ya can’t live without ‘em.
Customers are like employees in a way. There are a few who aren't worth the time and effort to deal with. Had some like that over the 50+ years.

Hmmmmm......

Didja ever hear about the brass cannon?

Once upon a time, there was a small town that owned an old brass cannon from the War of Northern Aggression and they proudly displayed it in the town square. The town employed a man to care for the cannon. Every day he was out there polishing the brass, repairing the wood as needed, keeping the grass cut down, etc. He enjoyed his job but he felt he wasn't getting anywhere, so he began saving up his money as the years went by. One day he decided he'd saved enough, so he quit his job, bought the cannon from the town, and went into business for himself.

Such is the fate of those who can't tell the differences among employer, employee, and customer.
