What did you do today?

So what ya getting next?
Borrowing dad's Cherokee Six for a bit. Full dynon and avidyne suite. And 7 inches wider. Get the ifr in that. Then build a decent size shop to build something. An rv10/14 sounds enticing. A kitfox or a highlander also sound fun.

This 180 was really fun. Docile. And had a Horton stol kit. Power on stalls were a bit of a guessing game. Didn't need to sell it. But had a number in mind and got full ask.

A little more than 10 gallons. Need an uncapping plane. Do you have a capping tank?

How much was consumed before jarred?
Check your math; more like 2 gallons. But still, first harvest feels like an accomplishment. I used a Rubbermaid bus tub to uncap, which worked well i thought, and was a whole lot cheaper than the purpose-made options.

I snuck a couple tastes, and I'm pretty pleased.

Dope. You're right. Dunno what I was thinking. 12lbs a gallon

Made my own from stainless. Had some 1/8 stainless woven material. Probably had more labor than to to just buy one.

I work on boats, as a side hustle. Today, I went to pick up a customer's boat from the dock, test drive it to verify symptoms, then load it on its trailer and bring it to my home. His outboard caught on fire, from a small fuel leak. Got it put out fast enough, with the exception of a some crispy electrical tape, it shouldn't be an issue. He doesn't have his fire extinguisher mounted for quick and easy access. Luckily it was under the first seat that opened and I didn't have to scramble searching further.

Mount your fire putter-outers where they can be seen, or at least label the storage location.

did the June and 2nd quarter payroll filings for the Church.

and had a really good piece of steak for dinner.

Gosh, is this considered journaling?

Woke up too early at sunrise (I am NOT old). Did a quick 5 mile, 1,300 ft. elevation hike. Went to church. Did a bit more of the deck railing (after noon to accommodate the youngster neighbors that can sleep in). Grilled two burgers for an early dinner since M'lady the pescatarian is away. Binged some dark drama on Netflix, since again, no M'lady.

Lightning strike fire that just happened? Or is that the oak ridge fire?
Yep, the Oak Ridge fire. Apparently started by some folks cutting firewood.

The first description made it sound like it was 15-18 miles away, but actually it is about 20-22 miles away on the Navajo reservation. Still, the back porch had ash on it Saturday morning. The Navajo are mostly working the fire and I saw a couple sky cranes at the Gallup airport.

Lightning.?? What is that.?? It has been so long since we had rain around here we hardly remember what it looks like.

EDIT: Sitting here eating lunch and the sky cranes are flying.!!

Was enjoying watching the sky cranes flying back and forth doing fire putter out work.

The airport here looks all serious with the helicopters and support teams parked on the ramp.

Then a CH-47 showed up so I went back inside the house.

Does anyone else see this thread pop up repeatedly and every time you see it you say “I worked. I bleeping worked and then I bleeping worked some more ffs”?

'If you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life.'

I've been working like a dog.

Tracked my old plane make it's way to it's new home. Happened to land while writing this.

My pointer absolutely will not sit. She knows the command. But she also knows not to. At least not outside. Whoa is the proper command

Never seen a dolphin fetch a bird. :)

Weekend: installed mini split heat pump in my garage so I can build the airplane year round, regardless of the weather.

Today: worked on airplane (30 minutes) and spent a ridiculous amount on a pair of uber-fancy folding chairs for myself and Mrs. DaleB. Smoked 3 racks of ribs (they do not suck) and did my best to convince the new pup that inside the house is NOT where he is to pee, which gets me the canine equivalent of a puzzled look and “But YOU do it all the time”.

Worked 13 hours today. Same yesterday. Same the day before and the day before. Will do again tomorrow.

Software conversions are fun.

I really hope you are hourly and are backing up the overtime truck. Otherwise, I’ve been there and recommend you get as far away as fast as possible. A code named project for some Fortune 500 company ain’t worth it.

only 13 hours each day?
Maybe the new software is in base 20.

I power washed the garbage can and installed new spice racks on the inside of some cabinet doors.

I work for a company of 120 people these days and I'm #2 on the totem pole. But a small company means a small talent pool. It doesn't get done without me. No overtime but I do have a piece of the pie.

That's when it can be really fun, or really rewarding, or both. At my last company I spent much of the first year working 12 hours or more, 7 days a week, and loving every minute of it.

It has its moments. I like that my decisions matter. I like that I can do almost anything I want. I choose software and approaches and all that. No red tape (but very limited budget).I don't like how many hats I wear. Some days I just don't want to deal with what I deal with.

I think the real question isn’t the present tense, it’s what the plan for the future is. If the plan is a hope somebody buys the business to fund retirement, I’ll pass; that’s just too much work for too little reward. If it’s grow the business to a profitable, mid-size regional business that others will eventually run for you, that’s worth it.

Choose software- yep. Just bought a new CAD system last week. Would I have liked a 20k piece of software like tekla? Absolutely. Screw Autodesk and their 2k annual subscription for a software already in maintenance mode no longer getting updated.

Do what I want- leaving in an hour to go fly somewhere.

Too many hats- yep. Just replaced the hydraulic motor on the service truck crane. Now I gotta wash it cuz I don't trust the kid with a 6000psi pressure washer to no remove the wrap.

I also get to tell @NealRomeoGolf his stuff is cool. But until I build a bigger building I am out of space.

The factory is waiting on your order.

It's both. Private equity owns it and will flip it. But I get to grow it in the meantime. One acquisition down, a few more to go we hope.
