What did you do today?

Choose software- yep. Just bought a new CAD system last week. Would I have liked a 20k piece of software like tekla? Absolutely. Screw Autodesk and their 2k annual subscription for a software already in maintenance mode no longer getting updated.

Do what I want- leaving in an hour to go fly somewhere.

Too many hats- yep. Just replaced the hydraulic motor on the service truck crane. Now I gotta wash it cuz I don't trust the kid with a 6000psi pressure washer to no remove the wrap.

I also get to tell @NealRomeoGolf his stuff is cool. But until I build a bigger building I am out of space.
I have an older copy of AutoCAD on CD around somewhere. No subscription for that.

Today I finally got Jira automation to do what I want.

Autocad LT circa 2014. Perpetual license. New versions are all subscription based. New machine requires stp, IGES, or NC files. Advanced Steel by autodesk is in maintenance mode (soon to be killed). 2600 a year. Or 7800 for 3 years.

Touched up on emergency procedures. 1700 fpm descent at best glide in the Cherokee Six is kinda fun.

Installed an MLS head gasket in this Kubota V2203 I had previously swapped into a Bobcat 743. Old reefer engine of unknown provenance, discovered three broken compression rings a few months ago when it blew the dipstick out with a geyser of oil. Rebuilt it .50mm oversize. I don't know what happened to the graphite head gasket I installed during the overhaul, but it popped between cylinders and steam-cleaned the bores. Oil was this viscous emulsified mix of Rotella and coolant, took like an hour to drain.

Anyway, runs mint again.

I work on boats, as a side hustle. Today, I went to pick up a customer's boat from the dock, test drive it to verify symptoms, then load it on its trailer and bring it to my home. His outboard caught on fire, from a small fuel leak. Got it put out fast enough, with the exception of a some crispy electrical tape, it shouldn't be an issue. He doesn't have his fire extinguisher mounted for quick and easy access. Luckily it was under the first seat that opened and I didn't have to scramble searching further.

Mount your fire putter-outers where they can be seen, or at least label the storage location.

Delivered the boat that was on fire this past Sunday, back to the customer's dock. It is running beautifully.

Watched the dog get ****ed off at me from inside the house because there's fireworks going off outside. She thinks people are shooting **** and she wasn't invited.

Installed microwave and gas range in my garage. Countertops next.View attachment 142594
"I'm putting a kitchen in my garage"
.
.
.
It's nicer than the one in my house. Sigh.

-break-

Today's excitement:
Culling three roosters.

We were looking forward to having chicken for dinner but the damn things were so scrawny we decided it wasn't worth plucking and gutting them. They were the size of pigeons under all those feathers. MAYBE enough meat to make a 6 pack of chicken nuggets between them.

It's a 750 SQ ft apartment above the garage. I screwed up where i put the windows before I had a floor plan. So the bathroom is bigger than the bathroom in my house, otherwise a window would have been in a coat closet. Instead you have a view while sitting on the crapper.

New engine finally installed (lots of work replacing the nose bowl). Installed all the sensor wires, starter, batt box and dressed all the wires.

Talked to the sheriff. Asked if I saw my 92 yr old neighbor recently. They were called to do a wellness check. But it wasn't her kids that called it in. Ambulance showed up and was gone 5 minutes later. Here's to hoping she was just sleeping off a 4th of July bender.

Wife’s birthday. Just got back from taking her and half a dozen other family members out to dinner. Now slipping into a coma.

Whe did you say the PoA party was?
Only issue is that the closest airport (3J6) is 30 miles away, and at 2500 x 50 ft it makes some folks nervous. Thought about having a fly-in there.

Got to bust out the oxy lance. About the only time I wear full leathers.

Cleaned the oily belly of my Archer. I have to have gained useful load and a few knots.

Showed some friends how to replace a hub seal on their 'skoolie' camper. They suddenly expressed interest in fixing it up, so I imagine Burning Man is right around the corner.

Mobile mech came out to my airfield to do my IFR pitot/static/xpdr checks this morning. Super reasonable rate, especially given that he flies here in his Skyhawk to do it! It costs more to get an oil change done on the field!
