the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

Opened the mailbox today and found that either my application to become an astronaut was finally accepted... or this is the receipt for my ASRS submission.

Two diametrically opposed outcomes: superstar pilot going to space or deadbeat pilot covering his ass.

I figure as long as I don't open it, my childhood dream is still intact.

Or maybe it's a tax bill for the time share that you don't remember buying on Mars?

Next on MayDay

FO Antonio: “Captain, the Expresso and Gelato machines are broken.”

Capitano Antonio “Declare emergency!”

Can they make it safely to Milano with the plane full of 88 super models, 28 designers, and 12 Formula 1 drivers?

Is it just me, or are Champion oil filters a hell of a lot harder to cut open than Tempest?

So I might be flying over Kentucky next week. Any suggestions for landing and eating/sightseeing/ museums or anything at all that might be interesting? I’ve never been

KY is a lot of area. Where about are you flying over?

Louisville? Downtown has the Louisville Slugger baseball bat museum/factory. Go to Churchill Downs for a race track tour.

Bowling Green? Corvette museum and GM factory tour.

I was overcharged on a car rental*. The invoice said I didn't fill the tank. I emailed them my fuel receipt and they responded with a really long email, probably written by AI on their end. Now I need AI on my end to decipher their email in order to find out whether or not I'm getting a refund.

*The rental car company was Hertz

When you tell AI to write your response, be sure to instruct it to at least double the length of their email.

Whatever jack rabbit decided ctrl-c should mean copy text AND interrupt a Unix script is a cruel individual. Spent hours re-running a data migration due to that little bit of muscle memory.

I think the two functions were invented a decade or two apart. Maybe whoever assigned it to "copy" probably never envisioned a terminal being in a window?

was it the same guy that decided windoze users have to go to the Start menu to shutdown?

I popped up a VI editor the other day, and was automatically using all the commands even though it had been like ~10 years since I last used it.

Earhart files-is the only unknown whether she really was spying on Japan years before the war?

Or was there radio contact withheld from the public for 85+ years?

What else could it be?

Well, I guess I won't have to worry about my truck bed rusting

Are Helicopter owners and operators responsible for their rotor wash?

I was transporting the Mona Lisa but it flew out of my hands when the helicopter landed to deliver dying kids to urgent care. (I’m obviously the best at making up scenarios)

Had a good interaction with Garmin this morning. I always purchase my database subscription at OSH because they give a 10% discount. I've been doing so for five years. In preparation for my flight today, I checked Garmin Pilot to make sure all my charts were up to date and the new data cycle for the GTN was downloaded. Instead I got a message that Database Concierge was disabled because I don't have any subscriptions. Checked my CC, and I had definitely paid for it, so I called Garmin. The guy I got was super friendly, identified me and my plane without even asking (presumably by phone number), listened to my story, and within a couple minutes had my subscription reactivated.

I know this should be baseline customer service, but these days it's so rare to have a positive interaction with CS.

I hit 1000 hrs today. Also crossed 700 in my Lance. Still in love with it. Flying and the Lance.

Made my most challenging landing yet in a 18G30 crosswind at EVV. Lousy day to fly. Still beats driving.

Flew for the first time in about a month this weekend after taking a nice long break from my most recent checkride. Felt good just to get up and do a couple laps in the pattern now that we're getting cool fall weather in ABQ. Even though balloon fiesta is over the balloons are out in full force and sometimes get a little too close for comfort to the downwind for 8/26...

First thought when seeing this plane is, besides the owner, I bet we all know the one other person in the world who likes the color scheme. :-)

True story. A relative of mine had some painting done. He picked the colors. It was reddish pink mauve brown something.

Hint: He’s color blind but believes that doesn’t matter. He’s perfectly capable of doing anything, better than others, knows all, etc.
