The Great Monkey Race: Progress Thread

Craps are probably best if you don't know what you're doing, and Blackjack is best if you do.

Other way around. If you don't know craps, you'll lose your winnings before you figure out to pick them up. Most casinos have craps classes in the morning though where you practice for free.

Besides pretty good odds if bet appropriately, I like the fact that the whole table is basically rooting for the same thing...unless you're one of those asshats betting the don't pass. I never liked blackjack where the guy downstream from me would give me the stink eye that I somehow took 'his' card.

Yep, craps is definitely more fun, and a behind the line bet is the best odds in the casino, it's the only one with true 50/50 odds. But it's a fast game and if you don't pick up in time, well, 'letting it ride' on a craps table rarely works out on 8 the hard way.

Most ot the time I spend in a casino though, I am killing time waiting for the boss, and I can consistently play longer (or make money) on $50 (used to be $20 when you could find $2 tables) at the blackjack table than anything but horse, and horses are too much prep work to handicap. Then there is the boss that backs my hands for 50% of the winnings on 'boys trips' were sometimes the group has filled 3 blackjack tables. So in those cases, I play blackjack with some of the funniest degenerates you'll ever meet.

Nate departed KVGT as I was preflighting today -- about 10:30. I'm not sure, but I think the monkey was flying left seat. Not sure who logs PIC and EdFred's chart was no help at all.

Yeah currently at KAEG fueling up. Went the south route. Another 2:30 or so to get to KAPA.

Monkey is safely in Denver. Went the south route today via Flagstaff, Winslow, Albuquerque, Pueblo and on up the east side of the Front Range.

Got in too late to meet up with Clark and maybe Murphy and Clark are gonna fight over the next leg. So I guess I'll either have to drive monkey to BJC or EIK or another quick flight to meet whoever is taking him next.

Vegas.

Some folks wanted to see the iPad mini on the ram mount on the side window. This is with the seat all the way back to get it all in frame. It doesn't block the view this much.

Quiet at KAEG today. I don't know if you can see it in the background but some bundled up dude was doing laps in a powered hang glider thing.

Can't decide if I like the red overheads or the post lights better at night. Both work Bravo Zulu.

12.1 hours on the Hobbs, 138.1 gallons for our usual 11.41 gal/hr at our altitudes. (Most cruise was at 10,500 Westbound where by some freak of high pressure system I actually got a tiny tailwind westbound?! And 9,500 eastbound other than a few places at night where I preferred a couple thousand AGL coming around the corner at Cimmaron.

Time to find some dinner and drive home! G'night until later. That was fun! Nice to meet Sam and briefly his family at the airport this morning too.

Oh and I see that Sac added a flight log for Mr. Monkey so I'll fill that out tonight.

By the way. It's 5.4 hours over the Rockies to Vegas and 6.7 going around. At 182 speeds anyway.

You're a rockstar, Nate! Nice work. Our total time was only 6.3. And some of that was due to an extended leg through the Bravo today at a 190 heading when ATC thought we were going to KDAG and I politely let them vector us there for a while...

I was impressed. Much nicer in the Bravo today than previous trips.

On the way in, the Nellis controller mumbled something and I really wasn't quite sure if I had a Bravo clearance or not even though he said getting into VGT "from the northeast shouldn't be a problem today, they're landing 30... mumble mumble"... Then he got busy with three other aircraft and I realized I'd better get my butt down if I wanted a chance of not busting the Bravo before I could call him again... So I decided to see how the 182 would do 10 knots below Vne. Hahaha. Wheeeeee. Slam dunk. Then I made a turn to the West to avoid the Bravo to the surface there to the northwest of Nellis and he asks me "say intentions, showing you on a westerly heading" in between other traffic calls, so i guess he had cleared me, but I just replied that I was avoiding the Bravo and would turn south to VGT when able. Interestingly instead of giving a (second?) Bravo clearance he just replied "roger" and went back to his other traffic.

On the way out I asked VGT if it looked like we could do a southeast departure and VFR flight following and they said Nellis would work me down the east side. They did. Cleared to climb through the Bravo to 9500 on a 090 heading for a little while and then "proceed on course Peach Springs, own navigation". Worked out well. Got to watch the sightseeing Twin Otters running underneath me back into Vegas from their runs out to the Canyon and Lake Mead. Saw two, 1000 feet below. Nellis didn't even bother calling them out.

Much friendlier than in years past. Seems like on the northwest corner Vegas Approach has offloaded the folks routing around up there to Nellis and the Nellis folks were super friendly, other than the mumble that precipitated my dive and drive. Ha. It was smooth out anyway, and who doesn't like seeing a Skylane actually get somewhere near Vne once in a blue moon?! LOL. Fun to listen to everything whistle. Even the Lightspeeds can't keep that racket out. Whooooooosh.

I'm not flying right now....spent all day Sunday at home quite ill. Clark gets the honor of the next transport of the Monkey.

Clark mentioned he was also a little under the weather. I told him we'd figure it out for the transfer... Monkey may be delayed in DEN for a bit. Heh.

Nice pics, looks like a fun flight. As for lights, NuLites work incredibly well and were cheap in airplane parlance.

I've got some sort of ear problem so I'm grounded right now. Will give it a couple days to see if it clears or if I gotta go see a doc. I'm okay except for rapid head movement...

Thinking ahead, any of you Texas, Oklahoma, or Kansas folks wanna meet somewheres? Figure about a 300 mile or so radius from Denver which just about gets me to Great Bend (GBD) in Kansas and Borger (BGD) in Texas. Time for someone to step up...

Or if Murphey wants to take the monkey and run, that's fine too.

Stupid brooke plane! :mad2:

Of course if you don't know how to play craps to begin with you will fail miserably, where I was coming from is that it's a fairly even parity game so there isn't much of an opportunity to shift the odds even if you are a great player. On the other hand, if you are a card counter, you can pretty much guarantee your winnings at Blackjack. That's how a buddy of mine put himself through college.

On another note, the most difficult legs of the monkey race have been completed due to the efforts of Sam D. and Denverpilot. Outstanding forward (eastward, anyway) progress, gentlemen.

Couldn't agree more, a big thanks to all so far!

Now who's next?!?

I just track aces and 10s, but now most places use a continuos shuffle shoe, so it's pointless. The MIT boys ****ed it all up for regular players who weren't greedy.

It needs to go through Texas, we already have Mississippi on to NC planed. Cmon guys bring it down south some more.
If it doesn't get here by Wednesday it's going to be a while before the weather cooperates again. Looks like I'm going to be squeezed to get to Odessa this week unless it works out Wednesday. Should also go through Wichita Falls... and possibly Abilene.

I heard the monkey already had a favorite bar and was making plans to go skiing...he might be having too much fun at the buffet...

So if one of the other Denver pilots doesn't heal up fast enough, a Texan could come get him...

Haha. :)

For whoever wanted it for the map, route was...

KVGT-(Apparently directly over sferguson's house with the south departure haha.)-PGS-FLG-INW-ZUN-KAEG-FTI-CIM-PUB-BRK-KAPA

But we'll call it 533 mm direct KVGT-KAPA for the monkey flight log. Keep the rules bureaucrats happy. :)

Since I'm not technically supposed to hand him off at my home airport... Lemme know where to take him and when. This week being Thanksgiving if the monkey is still here through the holiday we'll feed him some turkey.

this is insane, what a great run so far!

There are WAY TOO FEW Texans chiming in...

We're kid free tomorrow and have our pro rata share of cash just sitting here just waiting to be spent on 100LL

(er... Actually I have no idea if we have plans or not but still, someone around here should go get that damned monkey)

I have work to do, a 100-hr to wrap up, and on standby for a photo mission. We might end up in Wichita Falls tomorrow evening.

So, am I gonna get to fly with you or is your regular right seater gonna trump me?

If the little bugger swings back south again, you're welcome to come. She won't be much interested, I won't be going somewhere. Then I can shoot a practice approach and log it . . .

Meeting at BGD works for me. I'm good to fly again. Whatever was in my ear has cleared up.

How come you guys aren't taking pictures of yourselves with the monkey? 6PC puts pics of himself on the net all the time and nothing happens to him. What is to there to worry about? LOL Like I said, if 6PC does it..........
