This will probably be the worse weekend out of the year to do anything outside. GA has already declared a state of emergency. No, not kidding. Bonus: Local airport, KRYY in Kennesaw, issued an e mail alert on procedures and "Winter Weather Operation Plan".
Sad, but I predict on Saturday people will trudge to the Kroger, WalMart and buy all the milk and toilet paper and strip the shelves. This will happen because there might be a shortage and the shelves might become empty, so I'll strip the shelves to prevent and get ahead of that. After all, might not make it to Monday without a dozen extra rolls of toilet paper and another gallon of milk that will go bad in a few weeks because bought too much milk and can't drink it all.

As timing, types, and amounts of winter precipitation become more precise, the decision will be made to execute the Airport's Winter Weather Operations Plan. Factors will include the likelihood that surrounding roadways will be impassible, the number of known flight reservations, and logistics such as staffing levels. Our primary concern is for our aircraft, stakeholders, and employees.
- Please keep in mind that each winter weather event is different. Impacts for this event are expected to exceed the airport’s capability to maintain a safe airfield for aircraft operations – especially if ice is present on the runway.
- We anticipate that Airport property and surrounding areas will lose commercial power. If this occurs, all vehicle gates will be unavailable until power has been restored.
Aircraft operators are encouraged to contact Ascension FBO at (770) 422-4300 to:
- Report any expected flight operations between Friday (1/23) and Monday (1/26)
- Inquire about the availability of hangar space
- A follow-up notification will be sent out by Friday afternoon
- While impacts are present, Airport Operations will communicate the airfield conditions to pilots through FICON NOTAMs. If there are no active NOTAMs, then the airfield is in normal operation.
