I should know in the next few days whether I can come or not. I have a tentative work trip on that Sunday and only have slow airplanes (I don't dare take the very fast airplane because of $$$$ and it being a grass field).

Just to confirm: the fly in will be the weekend of 1/24 right?

Someone is bringing a car, right? That sketchy bar in town creeped me out in all the right ways. :goofy:

We will likely have a car. I plan on flying but my kids are coming and they will drive.
Also there's this really great bar walking distance to the field as long as everyone is willing to land at the perfectly groomed, smooth, flat, golf green of a landing strip that has no wind what-so-ever once you are below the treeline so there is no need to land 80 miles away and drive in, stopping at whatever roadhouse that serves jalapenos that make one specific pilot cry. I don't recall who specifically but I think there is video on my phone somewhere :)

I'll be missing this one, but Rough River is on the schedule.

So is the conventional wisdom to book last minute? or book and cancel - in the event there is inclement weather. I'm going to be squeezed in between two work trips but will aim for Fri-Sat PM (or early Sun). I'll have little tolerance for Wx delays.

Hard to answer. It's not a super popular, busy place so my best guess is there's probably availability. And I forget the cancellation policy. It's probably like everybody else's where it's kinda not great

My plan is to spend the Saturday there.

So it's two weeks out, which is the cancellation policy range. Is this thing happening?

I'm going to have to bug out. My plane is going in for an unanticipated repair next Friday and they will be doing an early annual while it is down. Have fun fellas. I was going to bring up some tasty cajun sausage and boudin. Another time.

If the weather is good and predicably reliable, I'm going. So basically it'll be a last minute call for me.

Me and Eren will be there.
Even though there are no Bidets with a massage feature.

Our cabin is booked. Even if nobody else makes it we'll be there.

A mission to photograph Cedar Mills?
Hmmm. This comment plus this thread...

... makes me think you should be inviting the new editor of Plane and Pilot to come to the fly-in and do a story.

Hmmm. That thing that we never talk about before a flying event is improving significantly over earlier predictions.
We will be there Friday early afternoon.

Cayla McLeod formally invited? She may be in Texas doing a story.

You guys and gals need to introduce her to the best of POA!

That thing we don’t talk about looks brutally cold on departure for this northerner.

It looks pretty bleak. I was planning to fly in Saturday but freezing rain + low ceilings... Nope. If it's icy out there I may not even drive there... ☹️

yeah, its suddenly not looking good at all. and the weather has been amazing for the last 6 weeks.

Yeah, it's been super mild. It was in the 80s during the holidays and even after that, still 60s and 70s for the most part with the occasional cold night but nothing like what's in the forecast for this weekend :-(

Weather looks to be crap all over the south this weekend.

wonder if we should call it. Last year it wasn't snowing and the cold was problematic.
I like the idea of a fly-in this time of year and Texas seems like the place to have it but flying looks like a no go right now.
