Rough River dos mil veinticinco (that’s 2025 en Español) 2I3 - 4/25 - 4/27

update from the park:

"I’m glad you reached out. It’s been a crazy morning. I am currently working through the upcoming groups in the order of arrival getting them rescheduled. As of now we are tentatively closed until the 21st. We will not know the extent of repairs needed to the sewage plant until the lake begins to lower. As of now we are hoping to be back up and running before your group is due to arrive. I know it will be close to your date, but I should have a better update by the beginning of next week. Your understanding is appreciated."
Meh… this POA group don’t need no stinking sewage plant. Plenty of trees around!

What’s the backup plan? Kentucky Dam?

pc12 hangar party?
I could make this happen if you come to the hangar it's based... DPA (if it's back from annual in time). No guarantees it's allowed to fly.

Drove through Kentucky twice in the past week (once through a FC+ warning) the Rivers are high - all of em. They were calling for 4 months worth of rain in 5 days. April saw pics from RR. If they have it ready in 2 weeks I will be very surprised.

A customer of mine has a mansion on Kentucky Lake. Pretty sure he said their was 12 bathrooms. One of his entities is a steakhouse so he's got a full restaurant style kitchen and his own label bourbon.

I gotta see if he needs a ride down there.

It's definitely flooded here more than I've seen in the last 15 years or so. Maybe longer.

Here's a normal shot on downwind at the home drome.

This was yesterday.

Flew over to Rough River and it's definitely not quite up to the cabins, but that shortcut to the Lodge would be wet.

Hopefully it drowns some of the ticks, otherwise they're probably all pushed up by the cabins...waiting.

Still got a couple days before crest, so it can go higher. Looks close to those bottom cabins already.

Local article:
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Louisville District confirmed that the lake hit spillway crest — an elevation of 524 feet above sea level — at 11 p.m. on April 4 and continues to rise. Current data from the National Water Prediction Service show the river reached 530.1 feet at 3 p.m. on Monday, exceeding the previous record high of 527.3 feet in 2011.

I'll bring some kayaks so we can get from the airport to the cabins. Y'all bring some pool floats and we can have a lazy river around the party cabin.

you know the last coupl'a years the big complaint was the lake was too low. just can't win with some folks I tell ya.

I'm assuming 64I (Lee Bottom) will be impacted as well. Two more options could be KSAR (Sparta) or KTHA (Tullahoma). Better than canceling I think.

I don't see on/adjacent lodging at Tullahoma. Give us a couple years and we'll be just across I-24 and will host. Well, we'll host some of you. :D

I do see adjacent lodging at Sparta, IL with this testimonial left on the website of the Briarwood Inn:
Dapper Dan - 8/6/2024

"Low life son of a biscuit eater. Take advantage of a senior citizen with bad health problems. Make up a excuse that he wouldn't refund my money because I used that little bar of soap in room and left a pizza box in room. That's bull **** Apu that just excuse to steal my $74.40 sorry excuse for a human being. Go back to your own country loser"

Hi Ed, I stayed at Tullahoma the year I flew to Sun n Fun. You're right the hotels are 1-1.4mi away from the airport - I think we got a ride from the FBO to the hotel the night we arrived and walked back the next morning.

I'd really like to check out the on-site Beechcraft museum at some point.

This fly in sounds like fun. Can anyone go or is it invite only?
Anyone is welcome to join, you should call to book your accommodations, not sure if anyone is RVing or tent camping. Some of our POA events, we do tent camping. If you are booking a stay at the resort, let us know here in the chat so we can add you to the group chat. We also have a spreadsheet with what everyone is bringing to contribute to gatherings.

Who’s down for vodka martinis, stirred, not shaken, extremely dirty? :drink:

from the park:

"Good morning,

Water has receded some. We have someone coming tomorrow to assess the damage at the sewage plant. We will know more after that about any repairs needed to get us back up and running. I will let you know Wednesday morning what I have found out.

Thank you,"

are we ok waiting until then for an update?

I'm good with waiting. From my reading there are several water/sewage treatment plants in that area that are or were shut down. Mainly due to the water level being so high it could cause damage ... haven't seen anything news worthy where damage actually happened ... for what its worth.

Do we have a choice? :)

BUT we get to say yasssss

I know we aren't supposed to talk about it, but certain prognostications aren't looking good for being outside.

I looked for “things to do” on google near RR and google came up with absofrigginlutely nothing within an hours drive. No bowling alley, no gentlemen’s club, nuthin. But I did see some recent pics of the lake and wow that thing was high.
