Most brass has lead in it, and anything that may contain lead automatically gets the prop 65 warning label. A few years ago, I ordered a brass valve from Grainger. They had to call me and make me promise I wasn't going to use it for potable water because the brass may contain lead. I think that was shortly after it passed; most of those valves are now made of lead-free brass.

That is why literally everything in California has a Prop 65 warning on it and why Prop 65 is useless.Prop 65 has been around for 39 years. Longer than some of the posters on here, I bet. There’s no down side to putting the sticker on. There IS a potential down side - from the lawyers, I’m thinking, of not having it.
Actually, the downside is it’s now noise. If there are dangerous cancer causing things in the environment you can’t tell because everything has the label.Prop 65 has been around for 39 years. The second part of your post disproves the first.CA gov does many absurd things- but this *isn’t* one of them.
Assembly- a long time ago- passed a law stating that carcinogens must be labeled.
Answer- for many manufacturers, doubtless based on legal advice?
Label everything as potentially carcinogenic.
That's not a downside to the manufacturer, but it is an entirely foreseeable unintended consequences of the lawActually, the downside is it’s now noise.
Oops. Don't pass stupid laws. It's ok though, because no one's actually selling dangerous, cancer-causing consumer goods in California. That's what we have tort law for anyway. If there are dangerous cancer causing things in the environment you can’t tell because everything has the label.

Interesting history of the prop on Wiki, the Font of All Human Knowledge. It was used - by Jane Fonda - to drive out the vote for a Dem candidate for Governor. Apparently, even though the prop passed 2 to 1, the candidate didn’t win.I voted No on Prop 65. My prediction about it sure turned out to be on the mark. I voted no because it was obvious that it would lead to everything being labeled as hazardous. My comment back then - as a 19 year old - was “what, are they gonna put signs up everywhere outdoors warning that the sun causes cancer?”

Like the rest of the state, it's inorganic plastic.(N)ot in California - they have a different earth it seems.
There’s no down side to putting the sticker on.
I think it is more likely that the State of California is the root cause of all cancers.I'm known to cause cancer in the state of California.
Please, get over yourself. I am so ****ing tired of people telling me "wow, I discovered this today and I thought you ****ing morons would like to know about it."Before this thread, how many of you knew brass can have lead in it?
I didn't.
I might be a bit more cautious about letting a developing teenager use a brass handle screwdriver regularly, if not wearing gloves.
Same reason I tell the FBO kids that refuel planes all day long to wear gloves. They get a lot more exposure to TEL than the typical weekend warrior, and their brsins are still actively developing.
Sounds like you've been washing the grease off your hands with 100LL way too often. Please, get over yourself. I am so ****ing tired of people telling me "wow, I discovered this today and I thought you ****ing morons would like to know about it."
So many are so ****ing full of themselves to realize that they are not the know-all be-all.Sounds like you've been washing the grease off your hands with 100LL way too often.
Otherwise the complete tangent of your reply needs further investigation.
