I took delivery of a new Porsche 911T today. I’ve had 911s in the past, and they’re intended to be a properly driving track day car, to get away from all the BS of life.

Well, the new 911s come pre-equipped with all of that BS. Thanks to EU regulations, apparently you cannot save your settings on EU cars anymore. So, every single time I get in the car I have to menu-dive across multiple screens just to get it to function the way I want it to operate. Just a nice little poke in the eye from an over-controlling government entity. Again…….and again…….and again. :mad2:

Basically, I paid $170K for what should be a fun toy, but in reality is only a very effective irritant.

Anybody want to buy a one-owner 911 with 130 miles on it?

Cry me a river

Joking aside, there are plenty of aftermarket tuners that should be able to disable the nanny stuff and get it to the point you like thr car.

I remember my old car would roll up the windows if I held the lock button on the remote. A newer model of that car disabled that feature, because safety. 10 minutes with a tuning program re-enabled it.

You bet. Once we figure in depreciation, I'll give you $11 for it. But I want to inspect it before I turn over any $$.
Poa bidding war... I'll double that offer. But only if it's got a full tank of gas

It's like not being able to have the stupid car remember to disable the stupid start-stop setting every time you drive. Or like my wife's new ride... you can roll the windows DOWN from anywhere in the world with the app. You can only roll them UP if you're within about 6' of the car. The list goes on.

Ah, flashback memories from 55 years ago getting a '72 911T from Bob Hagastad Porsche in Denver for $8650 out the door, my graduation present to myself from college. None of the modern computerized stuff with that one, and I'd like to still have it but am sure it's rusted away after spending some winters in Ohio.

Might be able to use VCDS to change the defaults. Should be some guys on the Porsche forums that can tell you for sure.
Nope. As of '26, Porsche ECUs are tightly locked down, and you have to be a licensed Porsche shop or dealership to change any of these settings in the ECU - and they have to sign an agreement that they will not make those changes. This is due to some incredibly intrusive EU laws, and VW/Porsche are too lazy to set up different systems for the US. A lawsuit has been filed over right-to-repair, but that will likely take years to resolve.

But a lot (if not all) the stuff you want can be done through driver inputs, correct?

All you have to do (or outsource) is a module that can inject a pre-programmed command sequence on the CAN bus ar power up, that will set everything the way you want it.
I'm sure you're not the only one pizzed about this, such a tool will definitely be on the market in the near future.

If it can be done on CANbus, sure, but the specific functions that won't hold setting are buried multiple levels deep in touchscreen menus. There are already plenty of similar options to get rid of auto-start/stop. Porsche has added this stuff within the past month or so, so no options yet that I can find.

Oh man don't get me started. It's just part of my post-start-up flow to start engine, wait 30 seconds for the disable auto-stop to become available, hit disable auto-stop function button.... No way to turn it off by default.

Why are you guys so compelled to **** and moan about everything, including brand new $170K play toy sports cars?

Jeez man. Because maybe straightnlevel works/worked hard to get to the point in his life where he can buy the toys he likes and it's not the experience he wanted after spending all that money. To me, it's like when we moan and complain about stuff that goes wrong with our $100k+ aviation 'toys'... Sorry man not getting on your case... just another perspective I guess. Peace.

Because I spent $170k and got something very different from what I was sold. If you had spent that much on something, you might want it to work properly, as well. Having been a race driver for 17 years, I am fairly knowledgeable about driving, and very specific about what I want. This is not my first 911, and frankly, IMO Porsche have made changes that have trashed the driving experience.

If a cheap car doesn't work the way I want, it's a minor inconvenience that goes along with having bought a cheap car. If an expensive car doesn't work the way I want, it's a constant irritant every time I get in. And I haven't spent NEAR the money that Porsche cost.

Porsche didn’t hold a gun to your head and make you buy it.

I was ready to buy a 911 GTS but chose BMW. ECU unlocked and tuned, TCU tuned, 750hp on pump gas with good engine temps. Easy to program drive settings with three performance levels at the push of a button. Tweak power, shifting, suspension, brakes, and steering. 200 mph beast or civilized date night driver. No regrets. I enjoy my toys. IMG_1035.jpeg

That’s to prevent you from being sued by the guy with his arm in the window because he was stealing your stuff. :)

Maybe a dumb question b/c I've never been in that situation, but couldn't you give it back to the dealer and tell them this is not what you ordered? Then use the proceeds to get a car that doesn't have those restrictions? I'm sure there are plenty of amazing vehicles at that price point!

It doesn't really work that way in Wisconsin. No right of rescision.

That said, as noted above I can probably find a CANBus solution to fix with startup signals.

The upside is that it's a really nice looking car, and drives...well...like a 911.

Great color. Manual or PDK?

I want a Cayman GTS in that color.

I would have thought at that kind of spend, and for a loyal Porsche customer they would be willing to work with you given the disappointment. Even if contractual terms don't require it. Life time value of a customer like that is $$$,$$$.

Nice paint though, looks sharp.

I don't race, and will never be spending that kind of money on a car. But I absolutely understand the desire to have something as close to perfection as possible, if it is needed for an activity you are good at, and care deeply about.

I shoot competitively, so for me the equivalent would be a competition gun. The trigger has to be perfect, and getting it right on a 1911* can cost more than the gun did straight from the manufacturer. Only a handful of gunsmiths out there can do it. Getting the full tune, proper sights, tightening the slide/frame fit, etc, can cost 4X MSRP on the base pistol. I won't accept anything less, so I understand that mindset applying to a special car, even if the purchase price is , uh, rather higher.

*A perfect trigger is achievable on a single action pistol like a 1911, or even on a high quality revolver. It is NOT achievable on a striker-fired gun. Sorry, Glock, the best one can hope for there is a reworked trigger that sucks slightly less than when it left the factory.

Is this a track only car, or you want to keep it street legal? Do you have emission testing requirements in your neck of the woods?

BTW - nice looking car!

Some track, some street.

Street legal, but pushing to the edge is a game I am happy to play.

Yes, we have emissions, so the cats must remain. There are some great tuning options, though, that leave the mandatory items intact.

Find a tuner to do "Off Road Only" to hack into the CPU. BTW - your warranty might be in jeopardy, but then again not sure what track days are doing to it anyway.

Honestly, if you're worried about warranty or insurance, you probably shouldn't put this sort of car onto a track. If you can't handle wadding it into a ball and walking away, buy something else.

I like your thinking! Same with me when I did track days with the motorcycle.
