So, I'm down in the lobby getting some health food (Pizza) and I overhear this guy blathering on about his sales experience.

He said "Long story short" FOUR times in the 10 minutes I was down there!

Does that actually mean that he was making a "short story lonnnngggg"?

"I didn't have time to write a short letter, so I wrote a long one instead"

-- Mark Twain

That being said ,is one of my favorites.

"For all intensive purposes" gets me every time. Not just because it's cliche, but because it's an incorrect cliche.

Usually when someone says "long story short," it's already far too late...

that business phrase that won't die: "reaching out to you" I don't know why, but ---> :mad2:
Just "call or write me"!

when someone sez...."Long story short"....brace yourself for a Henning story. :D

It takes 10 minutes to get pizza!? Don't worry about the story teller, worry about your pizza. I want it hot and I want it now!

I'll have my people call your people and we'll do lunch. ;)

Luv ya, mean it, say hi to the little woman for me.

:mad2:

Also ban the terms,
"So, ..." and "I mean, ..." when starting a response. "Like" was bad enough

"So like how will like the teenagers and like the millennials express themselves like especially without like cellphones and like FecesBook and like stuff and like whatevs but ...?"

And yes, please ban idiots ending sentences with a drawn out conjunction. I am sure you know what I mean ... sooooooo ....
I try to teach these idiots how English works .... buuuuuuut ....

About the same as "it is what it is" which really bugs me for some reason.

I never used that term until a couple of months ago when my engine started making metal.

Mechanic: It needs an overhaul
Me: Well, it is what it is

OH Shop: There's no reason to send the cam and followers out...they'll be rejected
Me: Well, it is what it is

OH Shop: The crank was rejected
Me: Well, it is what it is

It's an expensive freakin' phrase for sure!

Um, did they at least use some lube on you first? ;)

'Well Tim, here's what we see. It's a real nice set of rocker covers you've got here, and those accessory housing bolts are mighty fine, yes sir. Now - about that $10,000 crankshaft.....'

"and going forward" in a discussion of what is planned for the future.
again, not sure why it grates on me but...it is what it is!

Just "call or write me"!

I've come to the conclusion that "reaching out to me " is the same as the old "I'll get back to you on that" which means exactly the opposite.:D

haha thought of another one that gets me:

CSR says, "yes sir, and if you can provide me with a good phone number..."

Whoa you caught me - I gave bogus phone numbers to the last 10 companies I called asking for help!

I'll give you a 50,000 foot view: it's a win-win if we assemble a tiger team to shift the paradigm. When we touch base next, we should leverage the synergy we've uncovered. Can I ask for your buy-in?

"What I would do if I was you..."
"Me, Myself, Personally..."
"Irregardless of..."

I'm with you in principal. (spelled incorrectly deliberately since it fits the thread)

Listen; What I need to hear from you is - are you on board with conceptualizing this game-changing paradigm shift?

Well?
